I know this place closed down… but, I still wanted to comment. Toshi and his wife were incredible owners and hosts. I was a regular and they treated me and every customer I ever saw in there wonderfully. I found the sushi amazing and always looked forward to my dinners at the sushi bar. I was very sad when they closed down… if anyone knows where Toshi ended up, please let me know… thanks for the memories…

Yuki is most excellent in all its Japanese dishes. Having lived in Japan and the Bay Area, Yuki is a Gem located in Fremont, in the Mission Ranch area next to Longs Drugs. Because of its popularity, be prepared for a 10-minute wait before seating, especially after 6PM.

The sushi was pretty average and everything else was average as well. Nothing stood out. All the reviews pretty much say the food here is Standard, and that’s true. They should just rename this place ‘Standard Japanese Sushi Place’. If you’re dying to eat sushi and don’t know anywhere else, then this place will fill your needs. But there are other sushi places around town that are much better.

I will probably never set foot in this place again. — Dragon Roll took 35 minutes to get to the table… 10 minutes after the hibachi(sizzling plate) was served. What were they doing? Cooking the rice? It’s a roll ffs. — and no it wasn’t busy at all… there were only 3 tables including us when we ordered. — The roll was cold… wtf? It’s unagi on top with shrimp tempura in the middle… both should be warm. — Beef hibachi tasted old… the beef slices were way too thick and tough to chew. Not fresh at all. — Waiting for 25 minutes for the food to be served when there’s only 3 tables in the restaurant is ridiculous. — Prices are high too… $ 12.95 for a regular sized roll that tastes bad… poor value! This is DEFINITELYNOT the best sushi place in Fremont. Not even close! Try Yuki off of Driscoll… only 1 letter difference, but much more authentic and better tasting.

This restaurant has been around for over 10 years I believe. I remember coming here since I was a teenager. I thought it was very good back then. However, over the years I’ve learned what really good sushi should be. This place is not quite there, and I don’t blame them, because they cater to the mainstream — sushi-roll lovers. They have a huge selection of rolls, mostly smothered in sauce and all that good stuff. Their tuna and salmon sashimi are good(pretty standard). Their teriyaki chicken is quite tasty as well. I have noticed that prices have gone up. It is quite expensive to eat here. It ran us about $ 70 for two including tax and gratuity. Overall, it’s a nice local place if I must have some rolls and basic sashimi, but for the price I’d rather drive out to the peninsula for the good stuff.

I ordered a plain hamachi maki, sashimi appetizer, and assorted nigiri entrée. I was not impressed with any of them. The assorted nigiri was standard. The hamachi sashimi tasted bloody and had a bad fishy taste. The hamachi maki was okay. Other people in the group ordered rolls and they were loaded with sauces and something else on top. It was awful. The imitation crab was loaded with mayo sauce in the middle of the rolls. My bf ordered tonkatsu and it was so thin, we could not distinguish the meat from the breading. I doubt we will come back here.

The only sushi place I’ll go to in Fremont — wait, I take that back, the sushi place I always end up going back to. I think it’s human nature and Unilocal is a testament to this, even when we find something great, we try other places in case we find something better. Even though I know Yuri is the best, I keep on going to other places and am usually disappointed. I guess it’s my way of making sure I know what good sushi is. And I realized you don’t know good sushi until you eat really bad sushi. Yuri is right up there. It always tastes fresh, they have interesting rolls without being too ‘westernized’ and the customer service is EXCELLENT. And that’s not just mid-week but weekends, holidays, near closing, etc. They truly value their customers and demonstrate consistent service everytime. Perfect example: Valentines day. This year I came down with something and we decided to stay in and not be a cliché couple for once. So we called Yuri to place a to-go order. As soon as they picked up the phone, I could hear how busy they were. And yet, the lady on the line was pleasant, she did explain to me and very nicely, that ‘she was sorry but it might take an hour to place my order” and I didn’t mind. Then when the BF went to go pick it up, he said they were still super polite and thanked him for coming in. WOW. As for menu items one of my favorites is the James Bond Roll: it’s got spicy tuna, crab, and this great spicy sauce on top. And the standard spicy tuna is great as well. Tempura is crunchy and light with huge shrimp inside. Oh, and this is a big one for me, the miso soup has great chunks of tofu and seaweed.

I tried this place out when the falafel place next door was closed. I had assorted sashimi and a rainbow roll. I wasn’t too impressed with the restaurant, but they were friendly, clean, and I got water refills without asking, which always impresses me. The california roll part of the rainbow roll was pretty standard. When I eat a rainbow roll, the texture of the sashimi and the california roll are supposed to be soft and tender and kind of squish together in your mouth. I found the california roll to be different. The crab salad wasn’t very tender, perhaps indicating a different type of imitation crab, or a different preparation method. The rice wasn’t very soft on the outside, but that might have been a fluke. The sashimi I had wasn’t too exotic, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and izumadai. The tuna and salmon tasted like the frozen variety you find shrink-wrapped at the grocery store, but the hamachi was very sweet. The izumadai was kind of stringy, which I found to be weird, but I kind of ignored it because I didn’t want to think about it too much. I thought it was a bit pricey for what I was getting, and thinking that it was just okay, I’d rather go across the street to Sushi Harbor for a larger variety, and a better bite for your buck.

I happened to stumble upon this restaurant on my daily commute home from Fremont BART to San Jose. It was convientely located in a nice shopping center on Mowry St. so I decided to stop by for a quick bite. The overall service was great. Very fast, reliable, and friendly service. I sat at the sushi bar. The chef prepared me a few rolls within a matter of minutes. The prices were average for a Japanese restaurant, especially in Fremont. The sushi was, eh, ok. Their miso was average. It wasn’t the most authentic sushi place, but it was still good. None of it really wowed me, but I did leave feeling satisfied. I think this place is nice if you’re in the mood for a quick sushi bite, but if you really want some orgasmic life changing sushi experience, you won’t find it here.

I’m here at least twice a month… I live about five minutes away and when I have a craving for sushi or need to have some one-on-one catch up time with a friend I’ll always go here. It’s a small hole in the wall shop, nothing like the sushi franchises you’d see in the city. It’s a comfortable setting, kind of like you’re eating at one of your Asian friend’s houses… there’s big flat screen behind the bar so you can watch the games while you eat. The sushi is GOOD! Most sushi places that I’ve tried always leave me feeling a bit funny after having their sashimi. I’ve been here a lot and haven’t been sick ONCE. I haven’t ordered anything off the menu that wasn’t sushi so I can’t advise on the bento or tempura. Why only 4 stars? The service here is pretty slow. The staff is great. They smile and acknowledge you. They apologize if you’ve been waiting for a while etc. Their main hang up is that they’re understaffed. Although while you wait you can tell they’re moving as fast as they can to get everything taken care of. No one is just sitting behind anything being useless. They really do care about their customers which is one of the reasons why I don’t mind waiting. Everyone is really sweet over there. It’s not a flashy place but I’d rather come here than the other places in the area.

First of all, their miso soup is to die for, and I mean that literally. They have so much sodium in it that i gulp can really kill. Well, if you still with the teriyaki, I think there’s a chance for survival, otherwise you might as well just kill yourself and get on over it. That way it’ll at least be painless

Driving around the area we stumbled across here. We couldn’t decide on where to eat which is always a problem for us in Fremont. Didn’t feel like going to Joey Basils and the Halal mediterranean place did not look appetizing(although I LOVE mediterranean food) We were greeted very warmly from the staff. Food arrived in no time and water was continuing to be refilled. However the food was just so-so for the price. Nothing special. Not necessarily excellent but definately not bad. At least the waitresses were friendly.

Yuri used to be a hit but then the owners sold and the majority of the staff left and were replaced by new people. 2 – 3 years ago this was a solid 4 stars and I would return every two weeks, if not more, for dinner. That was when«Eddy» was the Sushi chief and he would create the most interesting rolls. I was happy to be one of his taste testers as I would frequent this spot often. He used to make this hand roll, The Spicy Ebi Hand Roll. It was the tastiest thing I’ve had in years. Then one day Eddy broke the news about how he and the others were leaving and selling the joint. I was heart broken knowing this place would never be the same. I returned 3 – 4 times after the«sell» and was completely turned off. The once 4 stars bordering on 5 stars, completely took a dive and became just another Sushi joint. Its sad but thats how things are. 3 stars, just average, and another place to eat OK food.

went there for lunch and probably will not return again I think they soak all their food in MSG and soy sauce, cuz everything was really salty miso soup: color wasnt right, way too dark, way too salty chicken terriyaki: dry, like rubber, very salty gyoza: just so so, same as everywhere else salad: nothing special tempura: the only good thing on my plate, but it’s hard to screw up something deep fried with batter

I stopped by for Lunch at Yuri and I must say that the place has a very very strong smell to it. You just cant help but notice it coz it hits you in the face as soon as you enter. I dont know what it is but its ure is not very appetizing. The place was not at all crowded, the food was mediocre and so was the service. Oyako Domburi was not at all delicious but i did try the croquettes and the tempuras and they were good but not stellar. There was just one waitress to serve but considering that there were just 4 people in the whole restaurant, I think thats okay. They close at 2 sharp and they are very very serious about it. We were in and we just got 4 mins or so to scan the menu and order so if you want to have a peaceful meal make sure you are there well in advance. The ambience is nothing to write about either.

This review is based on 2 recent lunch visits. One was a four star experience while the most recent deserved about 2 ½ stars. First visit i ordered the sashimi lunch(maguro, hamachi and fresh salmon). The fish was above avg. fresh and the cuts were nice and thick. I was very pleased. Shared one of their unagi rolls also, pretty good and quite unique for it had something sprinkled over the sliced roll, dried bonito flakes i gathered. It was slightly salty and slightly smoky. never had anything like it, not bad though. Second visit i ordered the tempura donburi(tempura’d shrimp and veggies atop rice and a light sauce.) This was okay, though you have to be in the mood for fried things cause you get a lot. The batter was nice and light, like see through lace, just the way good tempura should be. The shrimps were very good but some of the veggies were a little soggy in the interior, probably due to the pre-cooking of the veggies. Shared another roll, a Tiger roll(shrimp, avocado, cream cheese), it was below avg. quality. I’m not really into the big rolls anyways, i’m more of a minimalist when it comes to sushi, and this one definitely reinforced my existing opinions. Both the shrimp and avocado seemed a little dry and discolored, and the way it was rolled and cut, seemed very amateurish at best. I was disappointed and surprised. This place does have a good selection of sake, not the kind you warm up. And it has a very informative table tent to list and describe the sakes, complete with a numerical scale to rate the sakes sweetness or dryness. Very nice and helpful. i would come back, but i would just be a little more cautious about certain things, maybe sit at the bar where you can actually view the products before you order.
