We did a lot of research on what kind of tree to buy for our front yard, and finally decided on an Australian Willow. We called Regan’s but they only had one for $ 350. Then we tried Mission Adobe after hearing from a family member that they have a huge selection of trees. They had several for only $ 100AND all their plants are currently 50% off! Sweet! I was surprised that this place doesn’t carry flowers, they must specialize in trees and shrubs. I saw some sad looking rose bushes… definitely will be going to Regan for those. And yes this place is huge, very easy to get lost if you don’t ask one of the dudes in the carts where to find what you’re looking for. If it’s far, they’ll give you a ride :-)

Once things get up and running it’s going to be great. The veggie garden was neat to see. Nice place to walk around on a nice day, I am going to take a class one of these days.

The service here is great and so is the selection. I did not know what I wanted, but know what I needed. I told the nice old lady behind the counter that I had a west facing apartment and was looking for something that will not die in a sunny patio or loose leaves in winter and Voila there was something with my name on it, a true dwarf citrus. Like everyone else here has mentioned, this place is pretty huge and you could get lost, if you didn’t know what you were looking for. I’d recommend just asking the nice old lady at the cash counter or Anthony(on the golf cart) who is very helpful. They’ve been around for 32 years and knowledgeable. I’d definitely go back again and recommend them to friends.

The Adobe Mission Garden Center looks like it has been around since the beginning of time. It’s got some charm and it’s fun to roam the green aisles but sadly, it doesn’t have much else to offer. In all honesty, it’s a bit run down and the grounds need work. The majority of plants here are over priced and can be found cheaper elsewhere. Additionally, most of the plants we looked at did not seem very healthy at all. There was one or two exceptions, the green houseplants in the shop looked decent and their fruit trees also looked decent. Everything else was half dead, half eaten or sun burnt. We wanted to like this place and they were indeed very friendly but alot needs to change at Adobe Mission. If you’re looking for a great garden center in the area, go to Reagan’s.

I was a little confused and lost in this place because there are two entrances, and once inside, it feels like you’re in somebody’s back yard. Maybe that’s a good thing, but maybe you wonder why there’s an old boat parked inside. While there were many cool trees to look at here, I had a hard time finding prices or information on any of them. There were no little signs with planting suggestions or eve names(like Regan’s). What really got me lost was this large shaded patio in the middle, which after one or two walks around, I lost all sense of direction and couldn’t find my way back to the tree I liked. The dwarf maples were scattered all about. Prices were pretty steep compared to Regan’s. For what it’s worth, the lady at the cash register was really nice. And if getting lost is your thing, this is cheaper than a trip to Venice. It’s a big place, so bring your GPS.

The plants were a little bit more expensive than what you might find at Walmart, but they were definitely well cared for. My husband and I were out for a bike ride when I made him stop, so I didn’t get to look around as long as I would have liked… They have a nice variety of trees, and for my particular interests, the best part is the selection of dwarf citrus. Now if I can only get my husband to agree that what we really need on our balcony is a lemon tree or an orange tree, we’ll be set! ;) One thing they didn’t have(which I don’t even know if it exists) is a dwarf fruit cocktail tree. The staff was friendly and they didn’t seem to care that we brought our bikes inside and chained them there. They also have a nice selection of succulents, the best aloe vera I’ve seen in a pot, and a lot of interesting plants that you don’t find at the afore mentioned Walmart. I didn’t buy anything when I went… but I’ll be back!
