Upon entering the establishment I noticed there weren’t any cars in the parking lot. The place smelled like mildew and the server acted as if he didn’t want to wait on me, a couple came in after me and he was very personable and polite, as though he wanted their service. My food arrived and he seemed a little more happy with me being a consumer at his business. When I arrived home only to find my hot dog on a hamburger bun bottom. Which was difficult to remove from the serving tray. The mac and cheese was old. However the sandwich was pretty tasty. I mixed the VA and the NC sauce and I enjoyed it. As well as the baked beans.

I was driving around with my family looking for bbq. We stopped here with the hopes of having some nice food, only to find out the place closed down over half an hour before advertised and the employee sweeping the floor 3 feet away completely ignored us.

Just OK bbq. Maybe it’s the style that let me down. Used a groupon. They took it begrudgingly, sunbathing about the groupon people got the ad wrong.

The BESTBBQ in Fredericksburg. The NCBBQ is my favorite. The best potato salad I have ever had — nothing else like it(not lame potato salad from the grocery store) you gotta try it! Never had a bad meal here!

Went there with coworkers for lunch. Not welcoming. The carpet is old and filthy, the tables and booths were worn and dirty. There was one worker there. One. Therefore, service was slow and she was less than congenial. There were several signs around that were negatively instructional – do not touch the menu board, do not remove the BBQ sauces from the bar, this is not a trash can – you get the point. The food was less than stellar. I had a pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese and coleslaw. The meat was tender but not that tasty. The mac & cheese tasted like it was from a box and the coleslaw was nothing to write home about. I had the hot and spicy sauce and it was just OK. I’ve had better from a grocery store. Will not be making a return trip.

The Mac and cheese tasted like it was from a box. The collard greens were way over salted. The North Carolina BBQ was good but nothing memorable enough to make me want to come back. The whole thing was ok but just very lackluster.

It’s funny how the only thing people seem to rag on is employees and potato salad but knowing how Rick Ivey does things this is the ONLY bbq joint in the area that makes potato salad from scratch. Most get in a bucket from McLean or US food’s as far as employees greatest in the area…

I think this place was pretty tasty. They had a variety of very tasty BBQ sauces. I split the beef and pork bbq with my wife. The pork was much more juicy than the beef, but the bbq sauce made up for it. I will be coming back the next time I want bbq

Terrible!!! I’m from Tennessee, I know good BBQ and I make it my self. This is not BBQ, gross and disgusting! I agree really with another reviewer and say that I would really rather have fast food.

This made me sad because I’d never had a bad experience with barbecue. It’s one of my favorite things ever. But this was most unfortunate. I got the beef which was so salty it was barely edible — and I’m a girl who douses all her food with salt. So if it’s too salty for me then it’s out of control for anyone else. The side of green beans seemed to have come from a can. The fried okra was more fried than okra. And, having checked out the reviews below, I see that I could have gotten coleslaw on my sandwich but I was never offered it?! That’s just wrong, plain wrong. I’m giving two stars instead of one because the staff were so, so friendly and the little hut had a homey vibe. I just wish it had good barbecue to go with it. Sigh.

Had VABBQ cater our daughter’s small wedding this weekend. Kenny personally delivered the food to the location and, contrary to some earlier posts, it was well done. The beef and pork were tender and not overpowered by the sauces. The Mac and cheese were flavorful and had a nice crust. We’ll be back.

I have had VABBQ from the original Ashland location many times, mostly because my office was close by. When we would get BBQ from the local Fredericksbrug location, the quality was just not there or the same. Not sure what th issue was. I recently had their BBQ again at a catered even and the food was outstanding. I had the beef and the eastern style pulled pork and the sides were collard greens and mac and cheese. The beef with the VABBQ sauce was great and I have always liked their eastern carolina style pork. I would say the highlight was the mac and cheese. It was outstanding. This meal has restored my faith in VABBQ again!

If this is Virginia’s best BBQ, I feel bad for Virginia. What a waste of eleven bucks. Don’t waste your time if your actually looking for real BBQ. No flavor, drenched with sauce and canned sides. I would rather eat Arby’s.

This independently owned chain shop is under new management, It’s about what you would expect. A good place for a quick bite to eat, take-out and catering. Polite staff, descent food and modest price. Love the tag line — There’s a new pig in town!

I got slaw on my sandwich, it was damn good. seriously good barbeque. It wasnt crowded at all, I was originally trying to go to another restaurant but the traffic was so bad we ended up stopping here. I will go back — keep thinking about that good taste. I never heard of putting cole slaw on a sandwich before, turns out its really great.

Always great service! The food is fabulous. My boyfriend gets the pulled pork and he and his grandfather both love it! The mac and cheese is fabulous! The fries are the best! The owners are so friendly and always accommodating! I would definitely recommend it.

First warning signal, three reviews on a place that has been around for a while. Second warning signal, empty strip center location at 8PM on a Saturday night. Third warning signal, food taken from a steam table and a microwave being used. Fourth warning signal, the BBQ chicken sandwich was made from a solid block of meat that was taken from the freezer in a cry-o-vac bag. Final warning, no smoker in sight, no bbq smell, and McRib has more flavor and less salt than my pulled pork(recommended by the ladies behind the counter. And one more thing, the corn bread muffins tasted like they came straight from the Jiffy box. Run, don’t walk from this place

I had the VA Beef BBQ platter and my husband had the VA Pork BBQ platter. We both thought the meat was excellent. It’s moist, and has enough smoked flavor that we didn’t even use sauce. The meat would rate 5 stars. The sides were ok, about three star(average). I had coleslaw and greens, and he had coleslaw, beans, and potatoes. They weren’t bad, but not spectacular either. The average for both meals was 4 stars.

I had a coupon from an Entertainment Book, so I had no way of knowing that this was an order-at-the-counter and have a seat kind of place. My husband and I both ordered their Novice BBQ Platter which comes with shredded Virginia BBQ, North Carolina BBQ, pulled pork and 2 sides for $ 10.99. We both loved one of the three meats, but couldn’t tell which one it was. The other two were bland and in need of some flavor. They do have squirt bottles of sauce available, but we only used Honey BBQ(good sauce) and VABBQ sauce(just okay). All of our sides were just okay. The cole slaw was similar to KFC, the onion rings were decent, I didn’t like the potato salad and the mac & cheese was okay. I do have to say that the meat was nice and lean with no chunks of fat in it. Something that is hard-to-find in the BBQ world. I did appreciate that! This place seemed like fast-food BBQ. We probably wouldn’t go back because we like to sit down, relax and have a waiter, plus, we would rather have different BBQ. VA Barbeque isn’t bad, but isn’t what we wanted either.
