So lets say my time machine idea does actually work and that Graham Hancock was correct. Let’s say we used this knowledge and made that leap, but with it would come incredible amounts of responsibility. The kind of responsibility that I’ve been preparing for my entire life. Well let’s push back a few years ago, when a young guy packs his things and moves out of New York. A move where only the time machine knows the reasons why. Now after going through his initial cultural shock, this guy discovered a land so vast, with rolling hills and battlefields of a domestic war fought long ago. A beautiful old town built on the rivers edge just waiting to flourish to its former glory. Of fertile pastures leading into neighboring counties on up to the foothills of the mountains. All this within an hours drive of Washington DC, Richmond VA, Charlottesville VA and the Shenandoah National Forest. Pretty amazing place and one that should be respected for its uniqueness in this country. Such an amazing eye opening trip back in time, but lets push forward to present day and see what became of this magical place. Gone were the rolling hills and pastures. Gone was the identity of the region. In the place of the old farm land and golf course is Central Park. The worst designed shopping complex I’ve ever seen. One in which the business owners have no chance of surviving because of the visibility of the storefronts, due mainly from the navigation of the roads within. I bring this up in reference to the Carl D. Silver real estate division. Not only was he responsible for this, but continues building without consideration. Let’s be frank and say I’m not opposed to growth or expansion. Let’s be real, we’re a capitalistic nation built upon these ideals. What I am opposed to however is the reckless abandon method in which you have built your business and the renegade style in which you perform it. I’m not a fan obviously. You drive up the interstate and gone are references to the battlefield, the old town area and the beauty that this area deserved to be. What we have now is a region identified by strip malls, shopping conglomerates and chain restaurants by the hundreds. There is a joke in Albermarle county about not ‘Fredericksburgizing” the area. That has to do with planning and city/county design ordinances. Drive around Albermarle County, through Crozet, even drive though Williamsburg and see these efforts being executed. Never have I seen a city working for a developer. In the eyes of its citizens, we hope for the reverse. While I couldn’t prevent what you’ve done thus far and most likely can’t do anything to stop the mistakes you’ll make in the future, I will voice my concerns and opinions publicly. While I’m not an activist, I’m just pointing out mistakes you can’t reverse. Now I suppose if I were to take that time machine back to NY, I’d tell ya this. Col tempo la foglia di gelso diventa seta ~
