Although this location has closed, the owner/proprietor Rebecca Rather has opened a new location in F’burg called«The Pink Pig» located at 6266US290 Fredricksburg, TX78624 You can call(830) 990‑8800 for hours and exact location. They’re closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. They also have a facebook page that lists some goings-on. I cannot wait to go to the new location and see if it’s as good as the old one!

Duuuuuuuude. I’m in love. On a little romantic vacation away in Fredericksburg, we stayed at the Roadrunner Inn. They don’t provide actual in-room breakfast but do give you a voucher for breakfast at one of three little bakeries. Rather Sweet was one of them, and after carefully reviewing the reviews(ya know there’s an app for that), we decided to go to Rather Sweet. Tucked back behind a couple of shops, if you don’t know where to look you might miss it. In the front of the little shop is a shady courtyard with little tables and a waterfountain. Very sweet and if it wasn’t 127 degrees outside, we might have sat there. Entering the small bakery, you’ll see a big display case full of bakery items… lemon bars, cakes, kolaches(fruit AND meat kind), muffins, cinnamon rolls, you name it. It was actually really cool… while we stood in line, bakery workers kept bringout newly baked items. It was very hard to decide what to have! If you’re up for a bigger breakfast besides baked goods, they also have made to order breakfasts like pancakes. Our breakfasts were so good, we ordered a to-go order and used our last two vouchers for the next day’s breakfast too. Don’t miss out on trying the bacon cheddar scone! To. Die. For. I was so impressed, I came home, looked up Rebecca Rather, and bought a cookbook. THAT good. Go.

Rather cozy and charming with very good food. My husband and I stopped here on a road trip, we always Unilocal on the road! Finding the place: follow the small garden path in between the brewery and art and more store. First impression: pretty garden surrounding front entrance, gorgeous pastries and baked goods in glass cases. Seating inside and out. Service: my husband and I discussed that the staff is efficient but they play by a set of house rules. We arrived at 10:55 there were plenty of open seats. The staff was particular on where you sit and they wouldn’t take our order until after 11:00 when they officially open for lunch. My husband and I made jokes on what was«allowed» in their establishment. But it was in fun, we still enjoyed our lunch. Food: this is a slight case of «he said, she said» I thought the food was very good! We had a cinnamon muffin and the bacon cheeseburger. I appreciate food that tastes like there was thought and effort put into it. The muffin was moist, sweet and crumbly. The burger was not char broiled like you see in most places but the meat was seasoned and served on a home made bun. I thought it was a nice change from the typical burger, even though I love typical burgers too! I liked the burger, my husband thought It was fine, not as impressed as I was. Husband: «great atmosphere come here for the sweets!» Wife: «excellent place for ladies who appreciate fine and thoughtful cooking.»

Me and my sweetie stopped in here a couple of times on our last visit to Fredericksburg. Our first stop we didn’t stay as it was very busy, but our second visit panned out. It was a nice place. I got the Chocolate Butter Cream Cake, which was rather large, and tasty, but the cake was a little dry and the icing a little over sweet. We sat out in the little courtyard and I fed little pieces of the cake to the birds as I nibbled away at it. There was much still to try, so we’ll be back.

It’s easy to miss this tucked away spot on the main drag of cute Fredericksburg. If you miss it on the first pass, it’s worth looking for; you won’t be disappointed. From the homemade breads for all sandwiches and homemade sides, Rather Sweet Bakery & Café is the perfect lunch spot. The portion sizes are Texas huge. Our piece of Mexican chocolate cake was as big as my head.

After reading her cookbook & getting rave reviews for her Apple Spice Cake with Buttercream Frosting & Caramel(sinful, but pretty easy to make), I was looking forward to going to Rebecca Rather’s restaurant. What a disappointment. Granted it was a busy Saturday in Fredericksburg, which as you probably know can be pretty crowded, but the wait was incredibly long and since they don’t have a hostess you pretty much had to hover near a table snag it before it was cleared t get a seat! The food was delicious(party of 4-we all enjoyed our meal). I found the curried chicken salad to be a little heavy on the dressing though. Prices are a bit higher than what I usually pay, but they always stick it to ya in Fredericksburg, right? Upshot: go, but if there’s lots of folks standing around the courtyard lurking for a table find someplace else. One final note, there was seating upstairs, but stairs seemed kind of rickety, we watched the entire staircase shift as people went up and down.

Wow! We ate here on the morning of Black Friday and everything was just awesome! The omelets were pretty good, but the baked goods(cinnamon roll & cranberry scone) were fabulous. The coffee was also very good. Strongly recommended.

We went to the Rather Sweet Bakery for breakfast and really enjoyed the food. I had the ham and egg croissant which came with a side of fruit and both were great. Also, had a banana nut muffin that was excellent. The service was lacking. They don’t seem equipped to handle over 15 people at a time, so if it’s packed be prepared.

This place was pretty amazing. I came here for lunch and wished I had enough room for dessert because I saw a glimpse of what was in their case downstairs and everything looked luscious. I had the bison burger and it was absolute perfection. Thick burger mound, fantastic bun, pickles, tomatoes, and spinach(!! instead of lettuce — I love spinach). The home fries were rather spicy for potatoes so I didn’t eat many of them. The burger was enough to stuff me and I couldn’t finish it. My husband, who was not very hungry for some reason, got an oatmeal chocolate-chip cookie for lunch. The cookie was the size of a tea saucer and two dollars, but fantastically delicious. I stole a bite when he wasn’t paying attention. The service was very good and prompt and the prices are fair for the quality you receive. There’s seating upstairs as well as downstairs and on the patio/balcony. I’d definitely go back to try their desserts sometime.

This place is AMAZING! The bacon cheddar cheese scone, key lime pie, hello Dollie bar, and cinnamon roll were all excellent! Go early to get the most selection. There us also a café in the back of the store where you can get great coffee and breakfast! I wish this place was in the bay area!

Rather Sweet Indeed! I stopped in following a lunch in town on my way through. I was wandering the streets looking for a treat and some caffeine and found the shop on the main corner, Rather Sweet Too. I was at first a little disappointed by what looked like a lack of selection, but when I enquired about espresso drinks the nice girl directed me to the MAIN shop in the courtyard. What I found down this charming little path was rather sweet indeed. A selection of cakes and cookies and general goodness as well as quite fine coffee. I chose a triple chocolate cookie which was scrumptious and more than lasted the trip back to ATX as I nibbled away cautiously at 75 mph. I paired this with a hot mocha [yeah, I know it’s 100 degrees out, but I want what I want]. The mocha was sweet indeed with just the faintest hint of caramel which was a pleasant surprise and a subtle difference from most mochas I’ve found. All in all, I loved this place, and wish it was closer to where I live.

We had three of the chocolates and the mini key lime pie featured in Good Housekeeping or some other patriarchal magazine… The chocolates are delicious, but pricey. The girl recommended the chai, which I actually didn’t care for. My favorites are the ones that have some mexican word at the beginning, cocoran or something. The key lime pie was excellent. The filling was not bright green, so you know there’s no food coloring added. The crust was brittle and sweet, buttery, awesome. Girls at the counter were very nice.

A trip to Fredericksburg must include this little gem. I have never had their sandwiches but I do enjoy something sweet with coffee as a way to relax in the afternoon. It does get busy at lunch so going during an off hour may be a good choice. The coffee is fantastic. The pies, muffins, scones, bars, and all the rest are top notch. The dining area is quaint and you can brush up on your reading with all of the glowing magazine articles on the walls. There’s a nice patio outside making a sort of courtyard hemmed in by the rear walls of other shops. It does sit a bit back from the main street so it feels a little more peaceful without hordes of tourists flowing by.

Good bakery for a small town. We had several sweets, but I really liked their baggets with fresh goat cheese on it. If you are going to have the european experience in this town, you have to tie it together with the food here. The staff was quite friendly.

Rather Sweet is my favorite bakery in Texas! I’d like to give the bakery 5 stars and the restaurant 3 ½, so I’ll average it out and call it a 4. The baked goods are all absolutely amazing. I have never had anything from the bakery that wasn’t delicious — try the flavored mini-cheesecakes and any of the bars! Rebecca Rather(the owner/pastry chef) also has an excelent pastry cookbook that you can pick up — I highly recomend buying a copy if you want to gain some serious weight… decadent! The restaurant is pretty good as well, although it has a limited menu. The sandwiches, burgers and salads are all good. The place gets insanely busy during the weekends and the staff can get pretty overwhelmed at times. They mean well, but the undertrained high school age servers and bus-boys just don’t know what they’re doing half the time — that’s my only real complaint though.

Bakery nirvana. This alone is worth the trip to Fredericksburg. The muffins, scones, cookies, cakes, etc. are… top of the line(those are my mom’s words of highest praise, and, for some reason, they are all that are coming to me right now). Real food can be had too. The chicken pot pie was clearly homemade – of course the pastry covering it was tender and amazing. Words cannot express and all that. I wish I lived closer.

We found this place through a recommendation from a saleswoman at a store on the main strip. It was such a wonderful place for a relaxing, tasty meal. Set off from the main road around a little patio(complete with a fountain), this bakery/restaurant was quaint and comfy. We settled into a seat on the 2nd floor patio and were greeted by causal and friendly waitstaff. Lunch was great: I had the BLAT(Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato) on a fresh made sweet bread(almost like Hawaiian bread, but not quite as sweet) with the corn chowder. My companion had the fish tacos: fried(our only regret was that they weren’t available grilled or blackened) with a chipotle sauce, slaw and salsa, and a side of tasty not too starchy mexican rice. It was well prepared and unpretentiously served. For desert: these to die for mexican chocolate spice cakes. Even the ice tea was delicious. Clean and comfortable, the inside is brightly painted with some nice art on the wall. We were so pleased to eat here, something special and a step above what I’m sure is quite good food on the main street. We’d recommend it.

I did my research on Fredericksburg on Unilocal and on other sites, before heading that way. Everyone suggested Rather Sweet. I had kind of forgotten the suggestion, but as soon as I saw the sign, all sorts of bells went off. I stepped inside and saw huge bars and muffins and cupcakes. They all looked amazing. I ended up going for a peanut butter bar that almost made me cry it was so good. There’s magazine articles all over the walls touting the awesomeness of Rather Sweet. When that afternoon sweet tooth kicks in after you’ve stepped into the 80th gift shop, go get some Rather Sweet stuff!

Rather Sweet Bakery is definitely a place you don’t want to miss on your trip to Fredericksburg. I had actually found out about this bakery by browsing cookbooks,(I love looking at cookbooks). We had lunch there and it was absolutely delish! I ordered a sandwich,(on the Rocket Roll bread). The bread was heavenly! We also ordered the Mexican Chocolate Cake, I who rarely like chocolate cake, was in love! Our next trip, we skipped lunch to try a German restaurant down the road. I wish we would have stuck to Rather Sweet, but that’s another review. I ordered a Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie, wow! I’d love to get back there and sample some more. As others have mentioned, it’s a bit pricey. However, most of their pastrys are sharing size,(the cake could have been split between 2 or 3 people easily) so that taking that into account, it’s not so bad.

Rather Sweet was created by Rebecca Rather, a cookbook author and equestrian who was once a pastry chef for famed Houston restaurateur Tony Vallone. I find Rather Sweet one of the special places that await me whenever I travel to Fredricksburg. My son begs for the cinnamon rolls and her cookies are as big as your face! Well… almost. And her lemon bars and brownies are the size of small books. Try her chicken salad, too – it is so damn good! On one trip I remember grabbing several apple smoked bacon and cheddar scones thinking they would be good in the morning. They were fantastic with scrambled eggs and coffee. We typically come into town and stock up on lots of goodies here taking our«supplies» with us. It’s a must try little place and even though her address is on Main Street, it tucked back behind several businesses and you may have to ask how to get there. It’s absolutely worth a stop.
