Killer food, best service in town. Can’t come here often enough(delivery when we don’t feel like walking the 4 blocks lol). A must in Frederick.

Good food but slow service. I was charged for more peanut sauce for my entrée — how odd is this? Were they making it from scratch?

Great food, nice staff, and pleasant setting. I lived in Thailand many years ago, and the food is exactly as I remember it. Delicious!

Have been here 10+ times and have enjoyed everything. Noodle dishes, beef, shrimp, and chicken entrees have all been great. Presentation is simple but artistic. Service has been consistently pleasant and efficient. It’s a great place to go with friends who’re only moderately into Thai cuisine as there are many options. Can be a bit noisy at times but that’s part of the ambiance. For Thai in Frederick, it’s the best option.

I stopped here for a quick dinner and am so glad I did. I ordered the spring rolls and dumplings which were fantastic. However, the crab wantons were the star. Not only were they filled with real crab, the outside was thin and crunchy — not soaked in grease like most places. The staff were incredibly attentive, the atmosphere was great and the prices were pretty reasonable. It’s a little more expensive than your typical Thai place but I will definitely be coming back.

I hate to update my review on a negative note but unfortunately I need to. I still love the food at this place but lately it hasn’t been worth the wait. This is our second time we have waited at least and hour for our entrées. I know this place gets busy and has take out orders but an hour for two meals is not acceptable. We had our appetizer within 20 mins and then had to ask a couple times for the other appetizers which were our kids dinners. And those came out 10 mins later. Our meals were good but as I said before, not worth the hour wait to get them. There are too many delicious restaurants downtown to wait this long for food.

Best Thai in Frederick, maybe even Maryland! I’ve been eating here for years and the food and service never disappoint! Jib, the owner, is very personable and runs a fantastic establishment!

Love the food here! Whenever we visit Frederick, we come up with a list of new places to try, and more often than not, end up heading to Sumittra. I especially love the basil fried rice, the green curry, and the spicy eggplant. But I’ve tried several other dishes and like them too. Basically, there isn’t anything that I have had and disliked! There is a long wait if you don’t have reservations and come here on a weekend, but we’ve often made reservations a couple of hours in advance, and never had to wait more than 10 minutes. The serving size is on the bigger side, and I often have to take a box home. It’s convenient to park at the garage nearby and walk to the restaurant.

Food is excellent and the it honestly is the best thai food I know in Frederick. This restaurant was introduced to us by a close Thai friend of ours who is also a really good chef. I love their Ka prow with fried eggs. Place is very cozy and the waitstaff are very friendly.

It’s located in Frederick and we stopped over for lunch while driving from college park to Pittsburgh. They gave some complimentary spring roll. We also ordered lunch special item and some fried thing with spring onions in it. Food was delicious but a little too oily. The people were really nice and service was fast.

VEGANREVIEW Sumittra(Thai cuisine) is a great vegan-friendly option in Frederick. The restaurant was jumping for a Saturday night in early January, which surprised me, but with good reason: the place is awesome, and it deserves all the customers it can get. There’s a solid range of vegan options on the menu, including a lot of tofu-based dishes. The menu marks vegetarian options clearly, and it’s not much effort to discern which dishes can be adjusted to vegan. A quick inquiry to my server about butter used in cooking(sometimes, but they can skip it upon request), and I was good to go for a great vegan meal. I started with the larb tofu(flash fried tofu with onion, cilantro, mint and a spicy lime dressing), which was absolutely delicious. It was topped with shredded carrots, and it was colorful and beautiful. I felt healthier just looking at it. For my entrée, I had the praram tofu(fried tofu with ginger-peanut sauce, steamed broccoli, and crispy shallots). While it was simple dish — which is not a criticism — it hit all the right spots for me. Both dishes were home runs. Everything tasted great and seemed to be made with fresh ingredients. I appreciated the restraint in serving an appropriately portioned meal too; too many restaurants these days over-portion or under-portion, but Sumittra got it just right. Overall, service was polite and solid. Our waiter was a helpful, friendly guy, and I really appreciated his vegan literacy. No wait times for a table, to get our food, or to get the bill, despite the growing crowd that night. I also love the décor of the restaurant too. 5STARS — I enthusiastically recommend this place for any vegans in Frederick.

Took our unannounced party of seven with relatively little fuss. Our server handled split payments on the check without issue. My drunken noodles with pork were very tasty, but definitely lower on the heat scale than the menu indicated. Seafood spring rolls were delicious, with a mix of shrimp and scallop minced and wrapped with cilantro and rice noodle and fried super-crisp with sweet and sour sauce on the side. All of our party’s meals got a solid thumbs-up. Tea was served fresh and hot(green tea is of the gen-mai cha variety with toasted rice), drinks were kept filled, and a forgotten cocktail was removed from the tab without question. Everything showed up from the kitchen hot and at the same time, which can be a challenge for smaller kitchens and parties larger than a four-top. Modern Asian décor with lots of black lacquer and warm lighting. Noise level was reasonable even when busy. Definitely worth coming back.

Worth the drive! Our new favorite place on Market street, it’s worth the circling to find a place to park. Crab stars were done to perfection — and the lemon grass soup w/vegetables would be a satisfying meal on its own. But to have stopped there would mean we would have missed the curry! The duck was sumptuous, but could not compare to the chicken Penang. There are so many wonderful dishes for«next time» but it will be a challenge to not get this again and again… So delicious!

Wow! Excellent food and fantastic happy hour prices from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. $ 2.50 beers and $ 5.00 tapas. Small, quiet with very good service. The larb salad, spring rolls and curry choices will definitely cause you to leave full. Enjoy, JD

Having lived in Thailand for a while, I can say that those who are expecting truly authentic Thai in the U.S. are clearly shooting too high; most restaurants probably wouldn’t be up to code. But this joint does a good job of recreating a southeast Asian experience that is familiar to the western diners while still being exotic enough to be a fun and different dining choice. From curry to pad Thai, Sumitra has all the basics. And it’s good food to boot. The atmosphere has a great modern flare, and the location right on the downtown strip couldn’t be any better. Every time I’ve gone in I’ve been greeted by a welcoming staff and a clean dining experience. I have virtually no complaints, except for a slight lack of variety of some types of dishes. But overall, it’s so far the best Thai food I’ve had in town.

I had the Kow Pad Ka Prao. It is a fried rice dish that I got with shrimp. First of all, you are hit with the dramatic presentation and the wafting of aromas. My rice dish was molded into a bowl-like shape with crisp basil on top and vibrant red peppers and shrimp peeking through. The flavors are layered and very well developed. It was spicy as promised. Though, I could have had it kicked up another notch. The shrimp were medium sized and fresh. The veggies were very fresh and slightly crisp. The shrimp could be a bit better if there was a bit of carmelization on them instead of just simply steamed. The service is good and the décor has a sleek modern vibe. It is about $ 20 pp for a meal and a drink. I had the Thai iced tea.

I have never given a place 5 stars(at least, I don’t remember doing so LOL). But, I have extended the extra star because this is the place«where everyone knows your name, and they’re always glad you came». Not only is the food and customer service delicious(LOVE the ocean rolls!!), but they’re very personalized in their appreciation for their customers. And, it never hurts that they made my lil one feel special. :-) I don’t live close, but I look forward to returning when I’m in the area.

A pair of Frederick friends suggested Summitra for a late lunch today. I love Thai food, so my partner & I went along with that idea happily. It’s in an older building & on one of the main drags of downtown Frederick, so parking is likely to be a schlep. The dining room has brick & laid-back décor. Friendly servers seated us; both I & my sweetie’s seats were a little wobbly. Despite it getting fairly crowded, we were quickly re-seated at a bench table — our friends took the chair seats. ;)(Thanks J & P!) The atmosphere is flexible; we were casually dressed & didn’t feel out of place, but this would be a cute spot for date night, too. Though there were people around us, the noise level overall was low. Was nice to be able to chat with friends. For appetizers, our pals got the spring rolls & said they were tasty. We got the Peking Duck roll & the chive dumplings. The roll had a slightly thicker outside than I’m used to rolls having, more of a pancake than a wonton-style wrapping. It was nonetheless delicious: savory meat, crisp vegetables & a tangy sauce were emphasized by the slightly doughy, chewy exterior. The chive dumplings were decidedly nontraditional in shape. They were little triangles instead of the soft round dumpling shape I’m used to. But the fried exterior gave way to more chewiness. If you’re familiar with the texture of chive dumplings, you’ll know this is a plus. The vegetative, slightly onion-y dumpling filling was wonderful & offset with a sweet sauce for dipping that reminded me of soy crossed with hoisin. For entrees, my partner got the Pad Thai with chicken, & I decided to go for something new. I ordered the Fantasia Duck. I tried the Pad Thai; though the noodles were moist & the chicken plentiful, the sauce didn’t have a level of tang I like in this dish. I don’t know where that flavor comes from — tamarind paste? fish sauce? lemongrass? — so I can’t say for sure what it was I wanted, there, besides a little more zip overall. Nonetheless, very good. Dry Pad Thai is the bane of my mouth & that wasn’t the case here. Nice & moist, w/fresh crunchy bean sprouts on the side. Most people would be pleased with this Pad Thai. That Fantasia Duck, though. Oooooo, was that good. I’m not used to Thai duck having a fried exterior so I didn’t know how that would work out. The short answer is: delicious! Although this is a two-pepper heat rating on Sumittra’s menu, I asked them to knock a pepper off, as I’m a wuss. The resulting pleasant sting of spice was just enough for me to notice it, but not so much I couldn’t enjoy all of the lush, juicy duck meat. It was coated in a crispy breading that was decadent but not heavy. The sauce was a light brown sauce which I imagine can be made hotter as well as milder. The vegetables adorning the top were cooked perfectly — just on the cooked side of crunchy. Their sweetness was the perfect foil to the rest of the dish. Since we had a couple of sweet Thai iced teas with our meal — they arrived in beautiful layers, by the way, no cheating & using an instant mix here — we decided to skip dessert. This lunch was sliiiiightly pricier than we’re used to paying forThai food(disclaimer: we’re spoiled & live in an area lousy w/good Thai). That, & having to punch a code to get into the single restroom — which people tried to enter while I was in it, as the code system is annoying — cost them a star. But it was a nice meal, promptly served, by friendly people. Overall, a win. Go there, but I suggest trying something more adventurous than the Pad Thai. ;)

Fast service, quiet, hip but comfortable décor. Enjoyed every minute. Peking duck roll has crispy duck inside. We were steering away from fried food, but we were happy with this surprise because it was good. The sauce was kind of hoisin-y but also peanuty. Didn’t quite get the red garnish, but it was pretty. Tom Yum soup with shrimp came with three well-cooked shrimp and was hot but not overwhelming. The winner of the evening was the chicken and eggplant special. I think it was in a sweet basil sauce. Whatever it was, we loved it. Only downside is no AMEX. Also when you walk in, the entrance is a little weird. When you walk in there is a wall basically in your face. No matter once you are seated.
