MYHEARTISBREAKING!!! PLEASESAYITISN’T SO! ARETHEYREALLYCLOSING!!! This is the best place in Frederick, a true gem. I just moved to downtown Frederick and was planning on riding my bike here or walking over the summer. WHYISITCLOSING? Their food was AMAZING and their ice cream was awesome! Straight from the creamery… how much fresher can you get?!? Their veggie burger was seriously the best I have ever had and their fries were to die for. I am really upset if you can’t tell :(
A really tasty burger and some of the best fries around! I have eaten here several times, and it is always excellent. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is the prices are a bit high for a carry out, and I would like a little nicer area outside to eat. But the food is well worth the trip — the best burger in Frederick for sure!

I’m sorry Beef N Buns you have been slippin! Freez King is the new burger champ in Frederick. I just got the normal burger, lettuce, tomato, …you know the drill. Let me tell you the meat was juicy, the produce was fresh and the burger was a decent size. I had the Tiger Woods to drink(Lemonade, Iced Tea, Cherry syrup) it was very tasty and refreshing, too bad it didn’t come with some Tiger Woods money! Hold the mad blonde swinging a golf club playa! I will return!

Not impressed. Veggie burger was best. Beef and bison burgers were small for the price. Chili cheese fries were too salty. I’ve cream was good. Much better burgers at Wags.

Just a tip. The web page is out of date. They do not carry the wide variety of choices indicated on the web. Service is pretty slow for burgers, but okay for ice cream. The burgers are frankly kind of meh — I think Beef n Buns n Paradise is way better(also better for ice cream). I went Sunday night because I was tired and hungry and it’s walking distance from my house. I tried the veggie burger, which was actually the best burger I have had there — the burger was good, but the onions, tomato and bun were soggy. Although the flavor was okay, the ice cream in my float was full of ice crystals. Service is generally very impersonal, although the gal behind the counter on Sunday was quite pleasant. She saved this review from being a two-star.

LOVE this place. I know a lot of people complain about the price and the speed, but here’s the thing– it’s expensive because they use QUALITY ingredients. This is not McD’s. You’re getting the real deal here. I’m vegetarian and I am always blown away by the veggie burger– I have had it several times, with many different toppings. Delicious every time. The onion rings are also fab. The menu and the atmosphere(the cute vintage sign, too!) are so nice and I enjoy coming here with friends and family. I’m guessing this summer it will be a hot spot for local ice cream.

WOHOO! I had an 8 hour zumba fitness instructor training class at the YMCA and was literally starving. Not wanting a banana and granola bar like the other girls, I ventured out and this was the closest place I could find that seemed legit. First off, the parking lot is very small and crowded, the store itself is small, no seats only a tiny bit of standing room. There are picnic tables outside if you intend to eat there. I told the guy when I got there that I’ve never been here before and to recommend something, I needed a cheeseburger of some sort. He recommended a number 4 or 6 so I got a 4 I think(cheeseburger with pickles and onion). Add $ 2.50 for a drink and small fry(which was huge). My total was like $ 7, not bad at all, you’d have to pay like 5.99 plus tax for a meal at McDonalds and lord knows what kind of meat is in there. My burger was delicious and all the zumba chicks were envious. I shared my fries but that burger was mine. I told them I was in a rush and it only took them 6 min to make my burger fresh. Didn’t ask for a doneness on my burger but it was perfect… not well and dry and not raw, just like I like it! The only thing is that the burger was pretty greasy and upset my digestive system a bit but that’s what I get for eating a burger at exercise training! I forgot to add that the customer service here was outstanding. Unexpectedly polite and professional. Very quick and precise too! I wish I lived closer!

I heard about the reopening of Freez King a while ago, but I admit I don’t usually find myself on that side of town — and the rumors of huge crowds and long lines kept my impatient self away. Honestly though? I wish I had checked this place out sooner! I went in around noon on a Friday and it wasn’t too busy — I think I managed to sneak in ahead of the lunch rush though, as several groups came in after me. Granted, it is the dead of winter — I suspect its a different story once warmer weather rolls around. The guy at the counter who took my order was super friendly and helpful, and didn’t rush me at all even when I seemed a bit overwhelmed by the mountain of burger choices. There are seriously a ton of options — from the classic beef burger, to turkey burgers, artisan cheeses, and gourmet toppings. Extra points for having a bison burger on the menu! My order took about 5 minutes to come out, which was fine by me. You can also call and order ahead — probably a good idea once the warm weather crowds start flocking. The food is a little pricey at first glance, but for quality ingredients I think its understandable. If you want to save a few bucks, a little tip — it isn’t on the menu, but they offer a combo deal — if you buy a burger, you can get fries and a drink for $ 2.50 more, which is a pretty awesome deal given that a small fry alone is $ 2.89. They really need to put it on the menu so more people know, but I was glad the guy at the register mentioned it to me because it saved me a few bucks. I opted to stay pretty simple — a beef burger with aged cheddar and roasted onions and a small fry. Let me just be blunt — their burgers are AWESOME. The beef is obviously high quality — juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the toppings are generous. The toasted bun is delicious too — and it isn’t crushed and soaked in a layer of extraneous grease, a’la Five Guys. The fries are delicious too — big sea salt crystals on fresh cut boardwalk style fries, the perfect mix between a crispy outside and a soft inside. And they manage to make fried food that DOESNT taste like 90% grease or old fryer oil, which is an A in my book — just the right amount of greasiness to scratch the itch for a good cheeseburger and fries without making you feel like you need to hose yourself down afterwards.

Looking for a place to replace my favorite hamburger joint since we moved from Austin and this is not it. These burgers are OK. The onion rings are too greasy and while my parents enjoyed it enough, my husband with an iron stomach ended up puking before he even finished his burger. I’ll keep searching! :)

Looks cool huh? Well, my girl and I ordered two #12 dogs(bacon, avocado, and salsa). Took 15 mins to get em and there was only one gal ahead of us! Worst dogs I’ve ever paid for at least. Dry as the Chihuahuan desert. Had to get my money back and go hungry that night. And $ 4.00 a dog? Come on, WTF? And why does a turkey burger cost $ 2 more than beef?!?

Ok. So this is the perfect place to go any day of the week with the family! The snowball are the way to go! I grew up going here. Now I have 4 of my own and when we are in Frederick I love to give them the same experience. I’m glad the new owners kept the place. Thank You.

$ 7 for an AWESOME hot dog and some AWESOME onion rings. Onion rings were sweet onions with a really tasty breading. The hot dog was the bacon-wrapped and cheese-stuffed hot dog, and it was delicious. Hot dog was about $ 4 and onion rings were about $ 3. Price is fair to me. This is all local, all real food. Nothing at this place is low quality or run-of-the-mill. If you want a cheaper hot dog go to Target, go to Sam’s Club, or go buy a package of hot dogs and grill it yourself… but it won’t taste this good. South Mountain Creamery is the place the ice cream is from, the buns are from a bakery outside Baltimore, the hamburger patties are hand-pressed every morning, and the hot dogs are split down the middle and perfectly grilled. I haven’t tried the shakes or drinks, and my pal got a hamburger but I haven’t seen him since to ask him how it was, but it sounded real good from the menu description. This place fills a good niche, and now I can get a great meal near my office at a reasonable price.

The burger is just alright. Five Guys is more flavorful BUT their assorted fixin combos are really creative and tasty. You’re mouth will party once you take a bite. Fries are alright too. Ice cream is unique as they use a local dairy provider for their ice cream but as far as taste-it’s alright. Nothing to drive cross town for. Malt shake is good but I’ve had better. But if you put it all together: unique fixins, unique ice cream all in one place, it’s good enough for me to give this 4 stars(3 and a half if I could). It’s worth a try so check it out. Must warn you the lines build up cuz the service is slow so have someone post up and claim one of the benches first before placing your order. Otherwise, standing room only.

My husband and I were really excited to see Freez King was back open but that excitement died immediately after our first visit. We ordered a chili cheese dog each and a chocolate milk shake and it was awful! By far the worst dog I’ve ever had. So dry and the texture was just odd… the cheese wasn’t even melted and the roll tasted like it was sitting out all day. And the chili was awful! The fact that we waited 45 minutes and such a small meal cost us $ 20 is ridiculous! They’ve really ruined the Freez King name :(They are nothing like the original and should have come up with another name…

Great soft serve and toppings. The turkey burgers are tasty with lots of choices for toppings there as well! The only thing that could use improvement is the service. It could be a bit quicker and more friendly!

So a few comments to add after three visits and having sampled a wider range of fare. First off, the onion rings here are superb. Excellent sweet onions with a great crispy batter. Made to order and consistently good thus far. A much better choice than the hand cut fries, which are also good but not notable, mostly because they always seem to lack crunch. Second, the range of burgers here is awesome. The turkey burger with cranberry and watercress is a great choice and ranks up there with the best turkey burgers I’ve had anywhere. Juicy and fresh. The homemade veggie burger is also a delectable treat and a nod of high respect to those who love a good burger but do not eat meat. Service is improving, with only one minor order mix-up for a party of 10 that I took there over Arts Festival weekend. Clearly the staff is getting the hang of things and dealing better with the waves of people that are finding their way up East Street to this outpost of gourmet comfort food. Drinks are creative but a tad lackluster. The limeade was good, as was the Tiger Woods(an Arnold Palmer — lemonade and iced tea — with added cherry juice). But neither had the bold flavor I expected given the price. Maybe it was all the ice? Next time, I may ask for less ice. My only minor complaint is the presentation. These great gourmet burgers come out wrapped in paper, and invariably tossed into a bag with fries. Typically, both the burgers and the fries are a bit(if not a lot) smashed by the time you unwrap them. For me, this is mere minutes later since thus far I have dined on the picnic tables outside. I can’t imagine hauling them home or back to the office first. This is a problem w/takeout at a lot of the gourmet burger places, but could be solved by 1) providing the option of serving burgers on plates to those eating at the restaurant(e.g., tables outside) and/or 2) placing the burgers in a cardboard sleeve(a la White Castle) before wrapping them. That said, I’d hate to see them switch to a box for the burgers, as the current method does minimize waste. Although Goodburger uses a biodegradable clamshell container that really helps protect the burger until it is devoured. Hopefully this is something the owners will consider as the restaurant continues to evolve.

I was excited to see this place revamped and open again. The previous establishment was a little tasteless in every sense of the word. I have tried to stop by on 4 occasions since Freez King opened a few weeks ago, but the wait was at least an hour each time, with the line halfway across the parking lot, obviously this place wasn’t built for speed… some of this I was certain could be contributed to the«buzz» of new business, I mean how long can it take to hand someone a soft serve cone? I later found out the wait is due to the made to order, quality product the place is putting out. I ordered the basic cheeseburger and fries and it was very good. You can get a crazy hand pattied burger here to say the least… burgers made from Bison, Salmon, Tuna, 100% Natural Local Pork, Veggies and even Local Turkey. They even put them together with great(not your standard) toppings, several I will be back to try for sure. Freez King is in kind of a weird, upscale burger place category. I do think the burgers were a bit pricey coming somewhere between $ 5 and $ 9. They are not as big as a 5 guys burger and you don’t get a ridiculous wheel barrel of fries to take home like you do at 5 guys, but the serving size was more than adequate and I really thought the Freez King burger was of higher quality than 5 guys. I’m a fan. I love the location and the creativity that has gone into the menu, they make a great burger, just watch out for parking, the line and be aware of the pricing. This ain’t fast food.

Very pleasantly surprised. I thought the old Freez King looked a little sketchy. The New Freez King is completely awesome. Their prices are a tad on the high side, compared to the chains, but the combinations are so delicious that I know I’m getting what I pay for. Not just a grease burger and limp fries, not not at all! Someone said a little small regarding the burgers? I think we all know what happens with super-sized food. I actually couldn’t finish my burger. And the onion rings were so impressive that I woke up thinking about them the next day. I appreciate all the local food sourcing, as well, particularly South Mountain Creamery. Parking? Yes, it’s a small lot in front but a much larger one on the side, just have to drive around the gas station next door. Duh! Mike Tauraso is a class act, does it right, down to the last detail, and deserves high praise for yet another truly fabulous restaurant endeavor.
