This place is really phenomenal for small planes. My ex flies in from North central PA so that I don’t have to make a 10 hour round trip drive to spend time with our two youngest kids or drive our disabled 22 year Marine with a TBI up to visit them since the oldest lives with me in Upper Marlboro. I merely have to drive an hour instead. We have been doing this exchange for about 6 years now, and I’ve also been to Hagerstown and Gettysburg to do it at their airfields. There is no comparison — this place is top notch! From the friendly people, the nice view, the convenience to major highways, and the upgrades they have done to the restrooms and lobby this place gets 5 stars across the board. If I were into flying(I do not fly well — trust me, you don’t want to be on a plane with me… they are all the equivalent of aerial Titanics in my book), I would make this place my home airport. Seriously — go here with your kids to watch the planes and eat. Take your SO for an unconventional and cheap date. Learn how to fly. You’ll be in great hands for all of these things.

This is a great little airport to fly out of if you are a personal pilot or if you Fly private. There is no check in or TSA here. It’s great to fly to smaller airports outside of big cities. You can get private charters out of Fredrick to NY. Good for NY to DC flights. I did notice that majority of the planes at this airport were either private Jets or personal pilot planes. There are no food options here.

Check the notice board at the restaurant for upcoming events. This is my home base. Hangar cookouts after a fun day of flying is the best way to enjoy the airport but if you dont have a hangar or know a pilot, hang out at the Airways Inn and have a crabcake while watching the planes land. Best kept secret in Frederick.

KFDK is a very friendly and bustling non-towered(airport) that is also home to AOPA, the Sugarloaf 99’s and the Frederick Chapter of the EAA. Featuring a Signature FBO, two flight schools, a restaurant and recently winning the title of the World’s Most Female Friendly Airport make Frederick a must visit airport!

This is actually one of the better airports for private pilots. It is most recently crowned Most Friendly Female AIrport! This is my brother’s home airport and I’ve flown to a few dozen airports around the country so I am a fan of this particular airport. There are two strips and they are long and wide so it’s a good place for larger and smaller planes to land. The hangars range from good condition to very old, but there is a waitlist to get a hangar anyway. There is a terminal that has bottles of water, cookies, and clean bathrooms run by Landmark Avaition. There is a restaurant however I’ve never been there(I don’t think it’s quite a $ 100 hamburger) There is also a flight school and you can learn to fly planes AND helicopters. This is one of the nicer private airports I’ve landed and a friendly place to fly.
