Disgusting. I really can’t get over the level of disrepair that this store is in. The ceiling is falling down in multiple places, and water drips down onto whatever is below — produce, customers, floors. Weeks ago a car hit the front of the building and the hole is still just covered with plywood. And the food… many times I’ve gotten home to realize that the food I just purchased was moldy or far past the expiration date. While the employees have been friendly, turnover is high — you can tell Mac’s doesn’t value their employees, customers, or the community that they are serving.

For being in the middle of nowhere, this is a great pit stop if you’re staying nearby and don’t want to drive to Lincoln or Littleton to get anything(20 minutes in either direction) We stopped twice, picked up snacks, wine, forgotten toothbrush, etc. YES prices are higher… OHMYGOD… you’re in the sticks in a tourist area, what do you expect? For example, I paid $ 13.99 for a bottle of wine I probably spend $ 10.99 on here. So you have a premium, but remember, that little extra is keeping that place in business when there is ZERO traffic in the area.

We visit NH every summer from Los Angeles. Mac’s is our first stop when we roll into town. There are certain items we just can’t get here in Cali: Marshmallow Fluff, Jane’s Crazy Mixed-up Salt, Wise Potato Chips, and Bell’s Seasoning. We always buy certain ritualistic items that we never get at home: Cheez Whiz and Ritz crackers. Mac’s selection of wine, cheese, and olives is impressive considering it’s in the middle of nowhere. Here’s a cool tip: buy a pitcher and drive a mile or two up the hill to the natural spring up there. Ask a local, they’ll tell you how to get there. You will have the most delicious drinking water you’ve ever tasted.

I visit the white mtns frequently and I really like Mac’s market! I was so impressed, as a Californian, to see many items I would never expect to find in a tiny grocery store — like Rice Milk, specialty breads, and quality fresh pastas. This place is really great. I actually find the clerks at Mac’s more helpful than most store«help» in this region(the region, in general, is decidedly not customer oriented). But Mac’s is pretty good. And considering all the tourists that must frequent the store I’d say the place is very good.

I’m not sure why my friends chose Franconia, NH as the setting for bringing in the new year. Never the less, I found myself in this woodsy, secluded section of New Hampshire ready to party! As one of the first sights after exiting the highway into this town, you’ll find a two pump Mobil gas station and the infamous Mac’s Market. With spotty plowing on the back dirt roads nearer to our rented house, we made trips to Mac’s whenever the opportunity presented itself. And what fanciful trips they were at that. They were the highlight of the trip! From the outside, this market looks like it could hold 2 cans of Spaghettio’s and a loaf of bread. In actuality, it IS very small but also jam-packed with quality items at great prices! Freshly baked loaves of bread that they’ll slice for you, cauldrons of various soups, aisles upon aisles of all the essentials and more! Hand baskets of various sizes(check out the photos attached) make for amusing escapades. Not sure the locals appreciated our infestation, their glares told it all. People walk around the store talking about snowfall and travel through the nearby White Mountains. In contrast, my friends and I were marveling at the large selection of alcohol(in a grocery store! who knew!) and how cheap everything was. I bought a cup of yogurt, an instant noodle lunch, and a 12 pack of Vanilla Coke for $ 5.34. In fact, this was my only purchase through the whole trip, considering I brought my own food and was snowbound for several days. Not bad! Have your ID’s prepared if you are in a large group of people buying alcohol. They WILL need to see everyone’s ID’s, and are subject to scrutinization by both cashiers on duty(never had this happen to me before).
