This review is for the Lena Pope Chapel, not the home. I attended a Christmas concert there, and it was my first visit to this beautiful space. Set on a hill overlooking the city, and the Central Market that bought much of their land 15 years ago, the Chapel has tons of windows and a towering roof. There is an intricate maze of rafters supporting it all, and the acoustics inside are great. I imagine if you had a small wedding(100 – 125 guests) this would be awesome, but beyond that too small. Anyway, the highlight of the visit was hearing my own son sing in his choir. The second best part was listening to a random teenage girl who had a beautiful voice, but had a very Saturday Night Live type act. Her balding Dad and goofball brother spent 15 minutes setting up her microphone(unnecessary in this space) and her electronic piano(there is an organ and an expensive piano was already in place) along with music stands and such. Her Dad unnecessarily played guitar as if the bad lounge act wasn’t already making us stifle laughs. The rest of the concert was much more upscale.
