Today my wife told me she would take me any where in Fort Worth for Father’s day. This was my reliable choice! Most amazing fried chicken on the planet! Ox tails had the consistency of tender short ribs and butter. Collard greens, come on! The wait staff are great. Consistent, no BS. The best soul food period!

This is one of my favorite places in all of DFW! Best fried chicken in DFW and the best smothered pork chops you’ll taste. Service takes some time but it’s because everything is so fresh! Odd hours to be open but it’s worth moving your schedule around to make the trip.

Some people know and love soul food and some don’t. Anyone that doesn’t give Drew’s Place four to five stars doesn’t know or love soul food.

I really enjoyed talking to the lady who took our order. She was very nice and provided us with a lot of good advice on how to deal with our kids. However, since this is a restaurant review on to the food items. We got the fried chicken. I was hoping and expecting to be blown away, but it was just OK. The collard greens were delicious. The mac and cheese was only OK. I can only comment on the items that we had. I will assume that all of the other menu items are great. Our experience was just not good enough for me to justify the longish drive from Bedford to give it a second chance. Wish it was better.

Today, my dad and I went to Drew’s for lunch. I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, and collard greens. He had the smothered pork chops, red beans & rice, and I forget what his other side was. I really liked everything I had. The mashed potatoes could’ve probably benefited from a «little» something, but I’m not sure what. Everything was good. But, I remembered the Italian Cream Cake from the previous visit. So, I opted for a to go box and a slice of cake instead of stuffing myself full on the meal. The Italian Cream Cake was delicious, as it was the previous time. My dad said he really liked the pork chops, but preferred the seasoning of the meat to what it was«smothered» in. He did comment on the beans in the beans & rice. He said«a lot of places undercook their beans and they’re still kind of hard. Not the case, here. These are DONE!»(He liked them.) If you’re looking for standard restaurant fare, this may not be the place for you. But, if you’re game for something a little more down-home or «home-cooking style,» give Drew’s a try! The restaurant appears to be an old house that was long ago converted into a restaurant. The parking lot is small(very small — maybe 8 cars can fit?). A lot of people seem to get to go orders. But, I don’t live nearby. So, I always stay in and eat. A relaxed atmosphere with usually only one or two people on the floor. I’m not sure how many are in the back cooking. But, I’m glad they’re back there! :)

Drew’s has been my go to «soul food» place for years. It’s always fantastic! I go for the chicken fried steak, smothered pork chops or the fried chicken which is always juicy and flavorful. A little 411, if you plan on having the fried chicken call ahead because they drop it fresh for you and it takes about 20 minutes to cook. Totally worth it! p. s. The peach cobbler is the BOMB!

Had high expectations for chicken, but was disappointed. I mainly came for the fried chicken. First off, they cook it fresh. Which is great, but also takes at least 20 minutes after you order(so maybe call ahead?). This keeps the chicken is nice and crisp, while moist on the inside. Second, big portion sizes. You get a ton of chick for the price, which was a big plus. The disappointment was in the underseasoned breading. Maybe I came on a bad day, but every piece I had was really bland. Most of the flavor came from whatever oil they use to fry the chicken, which wasn’t very pleasant. Maybe I just got unlucky… But I will definitely give it another chance.

Wow! Really wanted some fried chicken today and I saw the reviews for this«soul food» restaurant with great fried chicken. It’s absolutely the best I’ve ever had… and it’s not even close! Collard greens and pinto beans are amazing as well. Super friendly service. Great prices. I’ll definitely be back!

Incredible fried chicken! The smothered pork chop left a little to be desired though. I would go out of my way for the fried chicken again though, perfectly crispy skin!

I first went to Drew’s a couple of days ago and cannot stop thinking about it. The service was spot on especially for showing up right at the busiest period. we got one of the last tables before the wait. I ordered the fried chicken plate with mac and cheese and red beans. the fried chicken was cooked to order so it takes a bit longer but it is worth the wait. If you don’t have time you can call ahead and they will have it ready for you when you get there for dining in or to go. When the chicken arrived it was still glistening from being freshly pulled out of the fryer. The crust was flavorful and crispy and stayed on the meat instead of sliding off in the first bite. The chicken was fully cooked but remained moist while I ate it. Delicious! The red beans were seasoned perfectly and were tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was moist without being soupy and very flavorful. I did not get any dessert because the portions are enormous and filling. As I was checking out, the woman at the counter asked if it was my first time there, I told her it was. She asked me when I return if I wouldn’t mind bringing someone that hadn’t been there before. I certainly will!

The food is as good as the best reviews already posted. I’d only add that the restaurant has a great atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. A happy place. Seems as if the nice owner-family is a good influence on customers.

I was craving catfish and I heard Drew’s had it going on — so I grabbed my mom for a lunch date and off we went. I’d been wanting to try this place for ages. Parking is a definitely problem at this place — we lucked out with street parking. As good as the catfish was, I instantly regretted my purchase. The fried chicken that almost everyone ordered looked so on point. According to who I believe was the owner, the fried chicken was the best thing on the menu. Looks like I’ll have to come by for that next time! Catfish(spicy) was great, had a small flavorful kick to it — but I think the portion size was very small. Other catfish places in FW gives you giant fillets though they aren’t as tasty as these were. Tartar sauce was very heavy on the mayo and relish, so I went without. Sides: fried okra(on point!), mac & cheese(not very good, tbh). Dessert! The Italian cream cake was so good, we had to stop ourselves from eating it. I definitely want to buy one for the holidays.

I was introduced to Drew’s Place by my grandmother when I was a kid and have been grateful ever since. Drew’s is run by a tight nit family whose values pour over into the business. When you first walk in, you will see a green bench for those waiting and past that a bevy of dining tables to dine in at if you so choose versus the take out option. Upon getting to the line you will have the opportunity to browse the menu options and these range from a number of home cooked style meals, including chicken fried steak, yams, red beans and rice, greens etc(None of which are greasy). There are a number of options to pick from. When you are ready to order, you are generally waited on by someone in the family being the wife or if not another employee just as courteous as if they were family. They will also have desert options right next to where you order so you can see before deciding. These range from lemon, sweet potato, coconut, pecan, and carrot cake usually. After ordering, you can sit down at one of the tables and the food is prepared in a timely manner, not too long but not to short either that would lead you think that it was undercooked. The meals are great and the ambience is serene, so there is never usually a loud environment inside. If you want to order takeout, they do give the option of calling ahead of time and placing an order, so you dont have to wait any longer than you have to. Once you taste the food though, you’ll be hooked, so beware. If you are a fan of southern style cooking, you are in for a treat.

Drew’s is the truth. It’s better than Alcenia’s in Memphis, which the highest praise I can conjure. All of the fried foods are flavorful without being greasy: The fried okra is the best I’ve ever had. Fried chicken rivals if not bests Lisa’s. Catfish is light and not too spicy. The smothered pork chops are incredible, with a thick batter that is somehow not overpowering.(The bones help you remember to savor it and not eat TOO quickly.) You can’t go wrong with the sides… any of them. Cabbage, okra, mac, greens, yams are superior. The broccoli/cheese casserole is a yes if it’s offered that day. I ordered red beans just assuming it was red beans and rice, but it was just beans; I enjoyed them anyway. The Texas Toast is so good, I’d recommend it over the otherwise tasty and light cornbread. Do yourself a favor and top off whatever you eat with a slice of sweet potato pie, too.

I thought my dear sweet grandmother had passed away years ago; however, it is obvious that she ran away from home and is now hiding in the kitchen of Drew’s Place. This is real southern food. This is not some knock-off wanna be restaurant. Drew’s Place is the real deal! I had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, collard greens, black-eyed peas, and cornbread. Of course I crumbled my cornbread into my black-eyed peas! Who do you think I am? How was the food, you ask? Let me put it this way… I was taken back to the finest Sunday afternoon meals I have ever had. Afterwards, I was left longing for a tranquil breeze with good company on my mamma’s front porch. If you are in a hurry, call ahead. It takes 20 minutes to fry the chicken… just like it should.

Get your soul food fix here. Drew’s offers traditional southern food including many yummy side dishes like fried okra, black eyed peas, and collard greens. Many of their dishes use pork to enhance the flavor so if you are vegetarian don’t even think of eating here. Lots of freshly fried options — I’ve had their fried catfish and also their fried chicken — both were very good. I was particularly impressed with the fried chicken which was pipping hot and a huge piece of meat, and very juicy. I’ve never had them, but Drew’s has a whole case of homemade pies, including sweet potato pie. They sure do look good though. The challenge here is parking. I believe the restaurant was once a house so there is a tiny parking lot — you are better off parking in the street.
