November and the leaves are mostly down. still stark and beautiful. I went off trail and sat under a tree for a bit, listening. perfectly alone except for a jay and a woodpecker, and the crinkly sound of leaves turning over in a breeze. just what I needed. fun, curvy, well marked trails. wildish, you get to duck under fallen trees, or hop over them, depending. sometimes narrow, sometimes wider. this will be a totally different hike at a different time of year. fresh blazes, very easy to follow. trail map at the start would’ve been nice. I turned around when I hit a golf course, as I started to see a few more people at that point. careful with footing. lots of fallen limbs and twigs under leaves. easy to roll if you’re not mindful. free parking at the entrance on fort salonga. would definitely come back here in spring, in early fall. what a treasure!
