Having a 2nd place here in Ft Payne, Al, this is the grocery store I head for to restock our shelves. It appears to be an affiliate of Food City, since many of the items carried here is FOODCITY brands. Prices are ok for a small town store and comparative to Chattanooga prices. It has the small town friendliness and meat market is awesome. Love their steaks and if we get there when they have the Steak sales we love to stock both our places with their steaks.

Where I live(north central Florida), we have the very large chain supermarkets: Publix, SweetBay, and the company I work for, Winn-Dixie. The Winn-Dixies closed down in northeast Alabama years ago(one is now a bowling alley, LOL), so all that exists on Sand Mountain and in Will’s Valley is Wal-Mart(YUCK) and a number of much smaller grocery stores, some downright tiny but fun to go into and get a feel of small-town life. Bruce’s Foodland is basically the largest out of these small family-owned stores. It’s clean, well-stocked, and the prices are about average for that area. The store has basically all the same items and departments as the large chains I’m used to, just quite a bit smaller. I always go in there when I’m in the area to get some of the locally-produced foods like honey and pickled okra. No trip for me up there is complete without a stop to Foodland.

Clean, modern, friendly. Don’t buy meat products from any other grocery store in FP. You only other option for all the name brands is to go shopping at Walmart and I hate going in there.
