Plantation Golf and Country Club

Usually when we go here, we get great food and great service. Today was different. It took forever to get our food, and the waiter got our orders wrong. Bad experience.

Plantation holds true to the Southwest Florida tradition of giant complexes built on large expanses of otherwise uninhabited land. Just when you think they might be done with it… another street pops up, somehow connected to the others.
My mom built a house here and has been in Plantation for about two years. What’s it got? Lots of stuff.
— Giant golf course. My mom is not a member, so I have not had the opportunity to play it — but people are always playing. Every day. Rain or shine. Huge thunderstorm coming? Let’s just finish this hole, then walk slowly away.
— Clubhouse with everything you could ever need or want. A massive pool that is always a lovely 87 (or so) degrees no matter what time of year I am down and a fully equipped fitness center that never has more than one or two other people in it at a time. I spend a lot of time here.
— Another clubhouse with a restaurant and a very competitive happy hour. Compared to what I am used to in NYC, they are practically giving these drinks away.
— Houses upon houses upon condos upon houses. I do like that Plantation has a variety of unique styles to choose from, which have major differences both inside and out. This effectively reduces the «sea of sameness» effect where you might end up in someone else’s driveway accidentally. (Think John Cusack in Pushing Tin, if you enjoy that movie as much as I do.)
— A sturdy, professional build quality. I’m positive my mom opted for the best of the best, but they did a really nice job, and i’m sure they will regardless of the finishes chosen.
— Nice people, wide streets, and plenty of ways to get in an out. Last time I was there I rode my bike through all the streets (some were just dirt at the time) to get my head around just how big this place is getting. Massive.
And on every street where anyone was visible… I got a wave hello. Very nice.
