Went for Daily Lunch Special Food — 5⁄5. The sushi here is delicious, large and has a great fish to rice ratio. It is a takeout sushi joint so you won’t have delicate presentation here but the quality of the sushi makes up for it. One bit of warning is that some of their rolls might have different definitions compared to other sushi restaurants. For example, their Spicy Tuna Roll won’t be a mash of tuna and spicy sauce in the roll, but a regular tuna avocado roll with spicy mayo on top. Salmon and Tuna are their main sellers so I recommend sticking to those. Service — 4⁄5. There is no waiter service since its a takeout restaurant but sometimes if you are sitting down they bring the sushi to you. Very friendly couple! Price — 5⁄5. $ 8.50 for a combo of eight salmon rolls, four tuna sushi and miso soup? The price can’t be beat if you’re in the mood for sushi during lunch time. Parking — Private Lot(Free)

How many times do I have to remind myself don’t go to a cheap sushi places. So many good reviews from Unilocalers decide to give it a try. I don’t know how they do it fish isn’t fresh at all yet very little fish smell. Fresh fish have certain texture to chew. Everything was too mushy. I will not come back and will not recommend to no one.

I go there almost every week for their #9PJ roll $ 10 for me and one piece of salmon sushi $ 1.50 for my dog. Their rolls are BIG and full of meat(fish) with very little of rice. Very reasonable and fresh. Love it!

I came here six years ago and recently as well! They make their sushi well and are a hardworking married couple that will greet you nicely.

I tried this place for the first time with my bf, and we are totally in love! The price is great! We got 3 rolls, and all of them had chunks of fresh salmon. We’ll definitely be back!

Good fresh fast sushi made to order at a fair price. Place has zero charisma so don’t take your valentine there but it’s great for pickup. Takeaway I mean. Not a pickup place

Great Sushi-to-go if you’re hungry and in a hurry. The portions are generous(large, thick rolls with decent amount of fish). While they have a few tables inside for people that want to sit and eat, they do not have waiter service and are really focused on the take-out crowd.

Best sushi«fast food» bargain place around this area. Only reason why I say fast food is because it’s not really a sit in restaurant. You order at the counter and pay at the counter and IF you want to stay and eat there are tables available. But it’s not like a sit and serve place. Buttttt the quality for the price?! Not bad at all. Definitely recommend to anyone. Tried multiple things on the menu. Most of them special rolls and all of them were amazing. Miso soup is good. The sashimi plate is good but the cut is too thick for me. It’s like more than a half an inch thick. I definitely didn’t enjoy that. But everything else was awesome.

So I did read some reviews of this place before coming in… lol definitely glad I did. Let’s keep it simple, you aren’t coming here to eat, you are coming here to get food and get out… unless you are in an altered state of mind with your homies. I can’t comment on service because the place is never packed and I’d never sit here and eat. ;) Cool thing is they do have parking in the back. The sushi here is inexpensive. It cost less here for better quality sushi compared to trader joes lol, Hmart etc etc. The best part is they will make the sushi how you like. Ever have that problem where ya want brown rice instead of white rice? Well they can make any roll here for ya in Brown Rice. Lunch specials are great here. If I’m ever in the mood for sushi and not with friends then im definitely calling them up an ordering.

Conveniently located in Fort Lee, PJ sushi provided me the best sushi I could get at an excellent price. No tips are needed here, yet no water service either. Everyday they had lunch special as well, around 9 dollars for a combo of spicy tuna roll plus shrimp sushi plus miso soup, good bargain! Their sushi roll was also of high quality with lots of fish meat inside.

Be forewarned: this is not a full service restaurant! Definitely more of a grab and go spot. My friends and I showed up with a bottle of wine assuming it was BYO, but dang they don’t even have glasses to give you tap water! With that being said, the prices are low and the rolls are nice and fat. I got an avocado roll and seaweed salad, for 7 bucks you can’t beat it. I don’t usually order sushi to go, but if I’m ever in the mood to, now I know where to stop!

Ok this is easily one of the best sushi places I’ve been to. The prices are so absurdly cheap but they offer fresh fish and HUGE portions. Going to a similar sushi place would cost about 50% more for the same portion and that’s not including tip. This restaurant is sort of a self serve kind of place. You order at the front, sit at your table and the sushi chef brings you the sushi himself. However you throw away the meal yourself when you’re finished. You pay right after making the order and there are no tips. Plenty of drinks to choose from and at very reasonable prices as well. The rice is off putting for some people because the texture is slightly different. That’s honestly the only complaint I’ve heard from my friends. The crunch they use is also different as its round and smooth in texture and not crumb like that most sushi joints use. Now at first I thought that was weird but I think I know why they chose this route. Every time I get sushi with crunch, the roof of my mouth is never ripped up anymore from typical, sharp edged, pointy crunch. You still get the crunch without the skin dangly horror that follows after eating crumb style crunch. The owners, which I believe is a man and wife team, are incredibly nice and always gives my girlfriend and I extra ginger without us even asking for it. Great food, cheap prices, great and friendly staff. The perfect combination, especially for a sushi place.

About once a week, I get a craving for raw fish and rice, so it’s pretty convenient that PJ Sushi is walking distance from my place(For those of you who are further out, there is a decent amount of parking in the rear, as well as meter parking in the front). First off, let’s make sure everyone is coming in with the proper expectations. PJ Sushi is NOT your high-end, super authentic Japanese joint. Don’t come in here expecting to sit at a sushi bar where you can order omakase from the itamae. But that’s perfectly fine, since they don’t pretend to be what they aren’t. It’s a place to get your sushi fix for not a whole lot of money, nothing more, nothing less. In my opinion, if the name PJ Sushi doesn’t disarm any feelings of pretentiousness, the interior will. Sure, you have some token Japanese themed decorations like wall scrolls and fortune cat sculpture, but there’s no getting around the bare-bones, no-nonsense feel inside. TV inside is showing the local news and some light FM station is playing in the background at a low volume. The menu features 52 different items, though the latter part of the menu is just different variations of sushi platters. The vast majority of sushi here is western style uramaki type sushi, though there are a few nigirizushi and makizushi rolls on the menu as well. But where PJ really shines is in two areas 1) Cheap lunch specials and 2) Specialty rolls. You can get basic combos like salmon and spicy tuna for $ 5 – 8 depending on which ones you order, or you can get some of the pricier specialty rolls which feature additional ingredients and sauces. My personal favorite is the David’s Special. My one complaint is that the quality tends to be inconsistent at times, though only when it gets really busy. I noticed a lot of orders come in around dinner time(Police and EMT seem to love this place) so the man and woman(husband and wife?) behind the counter seem to have their hands full during peak hours. Despite being busy though, they are always polite. Bottom line: if you’re a sushi snob crawling out of the woodwork after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi, then take a plane to Tokyo, because that’s not what you’re going to get here. However, if all you want is some super cheap on your wallet(but not so cheap on your tastebuds) fish rolled up in some seaweed and rice, then you’ve come to the right place.

It’s a mom and pop sushi take out place. The prices were pretty low for the amount of sushi we ordered, but biting into the tuna felt like biting into a wet sponge. I didn’t enjoy that at all. It was as if they took it out of the freezer and let it thaw. By the end of the meal, we left most of the tuna because we had enough of biting into wet sponges. You pay upfront and sit somewhere or take it with you. We sat and had our food given to us by a man, probably the husband. I liked that. I felt so conflicted on whether I should leave tip. I read other Unilocal reviews that said not to but I felt pretty terrible about it. Still, the other sushi was okay. It wasn’t really fresh, but it was so much better than the tuna.

What a bunch of snobby whiners. First, let me say that this is a NOFRILLS, neighborhood sushi joint. You wanna talk about the quality of the rice and how the fish was probably swimming a few hours ago before it died to be eaten by you? Spend the $ and bring your ass to a quality spot that will cater to your self proclaimed impeccable palate. Now if you’re looking for some cheap, fast, fresh(for the money) sushi, you’re in the right place. Don’t come here looking for ambiance either. I have never dined here, and frankly, I wouldn’t want to. Its not dirty, but it def ain’t a looker. I have never been disappointed by the food or service by the quaint Japanese couple that runs this place. If they offered delivery, it’d be 5 stars!

Great value, but the quality isn’t high enough. I’ve never had sushi rice served so warm. Also, their namesake roll is very mediocre. The Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll was better. I ordered that in a special that came with 4 pieces of salmon and miso soup for $ 10, in addition to the PJ Special Roll. The venue is humble(to say the least). The parking situation is a bit uncertain. And they don’t have a fountain so all of the drinks are bottled. That wouldn’t be so bad if there weren’t expired beverages in the fridge. You order at a walk-up counter and they bring the food out to you. You throw away your own trash. Seriously I don’t understand how this place has such high ratings. I’m bordering on 2 stars, but the cost was so low that I’ll give them an additional star. Not terrible, but I won’t be coming back.

Dirt cheap for decently fresh sushi. Deserves 4 stars, especially in light of my low expectations for togo sushi. We ordered two sushi sets togo and I have to say, it does kill the midday/lunch sushi craving. It’s quick service but like another reviewer said, the miso soup ain’t free– kind of ridiculous, but for the overall price of a meal, it can’t be beat. If you’re in fort lee and don’t feel like driving down river road to get to mitsuwa, this might be a good alternative for sushi. It’s also made to order on the spot, which is why I’d choose this over the shelf sushi in mitsuwa.

Seriously the BEST sushi. Just a few of my faves: — David’s Roll — American Roll — Volcano — Philadelphia Roll — Kani Salad — Sashimi Platter This place is an absolute MUST for anyone who LOVES sushi! Doesn’t hurt that its also beyond affordable, and their platters are kickass for parties! :)
