After a very bad first chiropractic experience, I was given another recommendation, this time by a no-nonsense kind of person. I was downright nervous by this point. Would he, too tell me I would need weekly(or 3 times a week visits?) Did he advertise in a coupon mailer pack? or claim to cure halitosis?(Yes, I have seen this claim on some advertisements). Or would he just fix me up. The answer: Fix Me Up. Fast, Affordable and Pleasantly. Far from the glitzy, wood paneled, stand alone office of my first experience, Dr James’ facility is located in a business park in the same building as Microsoft and a title company. His offices, which he shares with another doctor are not overly decorated, and in fact, down right tiny. The only decoration in his office was his degree on the wall. When I stepped into the treatment room, I was terrified. Not just due to my previous experience, but by the what appeared to be a rack looking device. The doctor, clad in physical trainer polo and khakis immediately noted my discomfort, and explained that it was just a hydraulic table, because«you’re probably in no shape to climb up on a table.» He was absolutely right! He explained his philosophy. Simply put: Get me back in shape, and I was to exercise more. There’s no need to keep going back, or sign up for expensive treatment plans. I was still a little leery, but was already feeling more confident with this straight to the point doctor than the previous glitz practice. After the adjustment in the small room, I was led to an even tinier room with another odd looking contraption. It’s meant for folks with lower back issues like mine, and makes you feel like a dolphin, with a folding/unfolding motion. Again, the skeptic crept back in, but I was feeling fairly good about the treatment so far. After«swimming» for a few minutes, he came back in, performed a few more adjustments, and mentioned that I may need one or two more treatments. And that I might be sore. Well I was muscle sore, but upright the next day. Two days after my initial treatment, I went in for a final adjustment and I went back the following week after the swelling had gone down(I had been crooked for a month by this point) for a «touch up». And I was on my way. Three visits, less that the cost(and time!) of the first from my first chiropractor. Plus, in the past several years I’ve seen him only a handful of times(for the occasional tweak, dangerous sneeze or slip on the ice), I haven’t come close to the one year cost I had been quoted from the previous location. And that includes the health club membership I started when I was told to exercise more. If I do need to get in(damn you high heels!) Karen, the fantastic receptionist, gets me in that day. Even though there is normally a patient or two already there. I am never rushed, and the appointments are always on time. tl;dr: No Nonsense, spot on care, physical therapy/sports medicine style chiropractor. Affordable and fast. I can’t recommend Dr James enough.
