A great place to sit in the middle of several intersecting roads. Small, but well shaded.

Pebblestone Park has undergone a major transformation since the 1980’s. Gone are the days of neglect and litter to a new and totally revamped clean and inviting park. Before the NY Parks Dept appropriated the funding for the park’s upkeep, there was a volunteer, for lack of a better term, an older gentleman by the name of Mr. Ian Maclennan. Mr. Maclennan who lived across the street, took special interest in Pebblestone and was the true keeper of the park and guardian for many years. Planting flowers every year at his own expense, running the hose across the street to water the what needed a soaking, pulling weeds weekly, the man worked tirelessly on beautifying a portion of the park every week. I was always taken by the care he showed for the tiny park on Selfridge Street. The care for the park had beaten up benches and broken glass strewn end to end. Add to that, the graffiti, sap, pigeon leavings and this little charming park was in some disarray and disrepair. The stone structures that made up the surroundings of the benches and corner pillars were a constructed of large stone and stood quite tall. With the low branches of two evergreens, when night fall came, it was difficult to look into the park, even thought it is merely 25 yards across.(Selfridge to 68th Ave). As the park is on the corner of my street, I have enjoyed many times with Pebblestone from as far back as I can recall. I was mildly concerned when NY Parks Dept gated the circumference and tore down every tree, bench, shrub within but the projects final outcome was a statement. I thought that with some TLC in the sidewalks and shrub care, that a complete rebuild was unnecessary and wasteful as to tax dollars. I was wrong. From the new water fountain and well appointed garden, it is common to see couples sharing some time together, someone reading the paper or just flopping down to rest and take in the moment. When you walk through, be sure to take note of the name given to the center garden, as it was appropriately dedicated to the Guardian of Pebblestone Triangle(aka: Pebblestone Park)
