This place has awesome Taiwanese food. It’s in a row of 3 restaurants on Prince street, and it’s just listed as «Taiwanese», but from the outside you can’t tell unless you read Chinese. This place has incredible green onion pancakes, oyster pancakes, stinky tofu, and braised intestine.

Authentic. The oyster pancake and the egg pancake were great.

On Sunday night, I put in a request for delivery($ 25.00 minimum for free delivery). The order arrived promptly after 30 minutes and the food was still comfortably warm. I have no problem with honest, straight-forward food, but the quality of my dinner(in terms of preparation and flavor) can most accurately be described as «lazy.» First, the good. When it appears on Chinese menus, «vegetarian chicken»(a strange translation) suggests a dish that mimics the flavor and texture of meat(it doesn’t!). Instead, you’ll be treated to savory marinated bean curd skins rolled tightly into patties, then sliced. Another favorite was the sesame pancake: a scallion pancake topped with a layer of fluffy omelette. On the less successful side, I tried the eggplant in garlic sauce, which was too sweet, too salty, too viscous. It was also the only dish to show signs of sitting too long before being served. Instead of plump, melt-in-your-mouth eggplant, the vegetable had completely lost its integrity and softened to the point of total disintegration. By mistake, I was given an order of Taiwanese sausages, which merited no special attention; they were likely the same sausages that can be purchased at any Chinese grocery. Last, I ordered the«stinky tofu,» a classic Taiwanese dish named for its pungent odor. The flavor was not bad, but the tofu was cut into cumbersome, hardened blocks that required effort to eat. Although not especially interesting, this restaurant might deserve another try in the future, especially because food quality almost always suffers as a result of delivery. The takeout menu also boasted a section of Taiwanese breakfast items, which might be more successful than their dinner options.

A friend of ours brought us here and it is one of the best Taiwanese restaurants in Queens and probably all of NY. It’s not fancy or fine dining at all, just a straight-to-the-point place for food. We had the shredded pork in hot spicy sauce, some vegetables with mushrooms(forget this exact name), vegetable fried rice. All were very good.

Julie/Julia Just found out that this is the old spot for this restaurant… Thanks Jocy… My bad for not knowing the name of this spot… but I grabbed a menu on the way out and they don’t have an English name on it either… and i don’t read Chinese… But this is the spot I will frequent for my Taiwanese fix. I went for breakfast this time around. Started with some salty soybean milk… yummmm an acquired taste… I will always recommend to my asian non-chino friends as they seem to really enjoy it but the gringos don’t like it… I’m not even going to try and describe it. Go with the sweet soybean if you’re not adventurous… then it’ll just taste like hot soy milk. Other menu items that were ordered. love love love either the radish or scallion sou bing… as it brings me right back to childhood in the old country… Beef with sesame cake never fails… and if you want something more greasy then get the scallion pancake rolled with beef. Their juicy dumplings are not the best but pretty good still. The star is the steamed veggie dumplings… excellent. if you really want that taiwanese experience then go for the oyster pancake and of course… they do have the stinky tofu… I do enjoy it but it’s deep fried and I really have to be in the mood to pig out to get it… This is a pretty good spot for lunch or dinner too… cheap cheap cheap… Use to be able to get 3 dishes and a soup for $ 16.95… It’s up to $ 21.95 now and still a bargain… You can choose from about 50 items and it can be intimidating if you ain’t Chinese cause it could look like something Zimmerman would have on his show… Stick with anything salted and peppered or some pork chops or chinese veggies and you’ll be happy… What they’re also known for is the red roasted beef and noodle in soup dish… SOOOOOGOOOD. pile on the pickled veggies and that is a meal in itself… They also have the taiwan noodle in meat sauce dish(zha chiang mein) which is good as well. Overall excellent meal for an excellent value in a non-descript kind of hole in the wall restaurant… just what a Unilocaler would ask for… Make sure you get the address right and the spot is 39 – 07 Prince St at «1G» cause I think there’s a taiwanese spot next door as well… It’s «NOT» Spicy and Tasty who I think is literally next door at «1H»
