We usually stop by and get sandwiches from tasty house 18 but today we decided to go next door and try the restaurant. The service was bad, food was terrible and two of the three people we went with got sick afterwards. We will never go back to this place again. Will stick to sandwiches from tasty house 18

It’s nice to find a clean neighborhood Cantonese restaurant. We ordered from their lunch menu. The beef satay, beef with peppers and salted chicken with peppers were tasty. They have good lunch options.

Sunday night family night, as our family put our heads together to figure out what to eat, my dad suggested New Tasty House 18. I didn’t hesitate and said NO because I was not a fan of Tasty House 18 due to their service, quality of food and etc(we’ll save it that for another review) but my dad insisted that we try the place so off to New Tasty House 18 we go!(Dad WINS, FATALITY!) The main difference between the New and the original Tasty House 18 is one is a fast, take out style restaurant and the other one a sit down, family style Cantonese cuisine restaurant. New Tasty House 18 is right next to the old Tasty House 18 on Kissena Blvd. it’s pretty much right across from Walgreen so it’s hard to miss. Parking: There is usually a good amount of street parking on both side of Kissena Blvd and also there is a small parking lot directly behind the restaurant, the entrance is on Elder Ave BUT if you use the small parking lot, you’ll have to go thru the old Tasty House 18 backdoor and go around to the new Tasty House 18. Décor and Seating: First impression– WOW this place is so bright the walls painted green how interesting! Pretty clean, not too much décor other than a few LCD tv around the restaurant. They got a 3 round tables in the back that can seat about 10 each and then a few rectangular tables in the front that seats 2 – 4 each. We came on a Sunday night at around 6:30pm and the place was fairly empty. Since the round tables were full, they combined 4 rectangular table together to accommodate our party of 9. We were seated right away and our waiter was friendly. Since the menu was pretty standard, we order our usual favorites: Beef and Chinese broccoli, string beans with minced pork, lamb chop, Salty Fish and Tofu Casserole, Fried Whole Fish in Spicy Sweet and Sour Sauce, Fried Garlic Chicken, Fish and Tofu Casserole, T-bone Steak and Silver Golden Egg Fried Rice. All our dishes tasted pretty good but my favorites are: Fried Garlic Chicken– Definitely did not expect this quality of food in this restaurant– the chicken was cooked perfectly– crispy skin and the meat was tender and juicy. Good flavor on the chicken with the drizzle of soy sauce and the fried garlic gave the chicken an extra layer of texture. Definitely impressed! MUSTTRY Silver Golden Egg Fried Rice– Usually I don’t like to recommend fried rice but their fried rice definitely stood out here. first of all, rice is not mushy– a key to good fried rice! it wasn’t overly greasy nor salty, they did a great job using a small amount of bacon to bring out the flavor. Super nice color and flavor. A MUSTTRY! Fried Whole Fish in Spicy Sweet and Sour sauce– the fish tasted fresh– a big wow factor here, it was fried to golden brown, sauce was on point and perfectly balance. My only complaint is the portion of the dish. Price: Overpriced: Most dishes ranges from $ 13– $ 25 and the portion is small! Considering how some of the top Chinese restaurants in Flushing charge about the same price with better taste and bigger portion and it’s a 10 minute walk away. Overall: New Tasty House 18 is Okay– It’s clean and the food tasted pretty good. Now they’ll just have to work on their price point and perfecting the taste on some of their dishes.

The cook is not ready for prime time. Same cost of food can be better found in flushing. avoid seafood for now, everything is oily and overlooked.

Went last week to tryout this sister restaurant of Tasty House 18. The décor were pretty good, clean, white and sleek. Hopefully they keep it this way. Its like an import of their menu next door with many more additional dishes. Its like a one stop kind of a Chinese restaurant. First they have a choose 3 dishes menu plus soup + rice for lunch only for $ 21.99. Would be sufficient for 3 – 4 people. Me and my family went there for dinner. We had Peking pork chop, some kind of beef casserole, steak Kew with asparagus and seafood casserole. Overall the portion were small and the price on the steep side. The beef on the casserole were chewy and some tough. Too little seafood on the other casserole as if all the shrimps, fishcake and cuttlefish were counted before going into the pot. Peking pork were done ok until I found a piece which were not well cook due to the thickness. Only worth mentioning, its the steak Kew. The meat were tender and the taste wise good but would appreciate it if they par the hard skin of the asparagus. Too much fiber… Other additional feature is their steamboat table and also a couple of dishes serve in a wok over the warmer. Maybe I will try that next time. Anyway, its a welcome change to have a Cantonese food restaurant in the neighbourhood.

Found a new, nice and clean place for dinner with my big family in Flushing. This is a new restaurant. It has 4 private dining rooms in the basement. The food is pretty good, a bit on the pricey side but willing to pay as long as they keep the place clean and good food quality.

I lambasted its sister restaurant next door in 2012 for poor food. This is more of a sit down restaurant with a fairly standard Cantonese menu. Décor is decent and place was clean. We had Peking pork chops, fish and tofu casserole, crystal fried rice, pan fried noodles and crispy garlic chicken. Everything was pretty good which was surprising given how much I disliked their food next door. Portions were a bit small for the price(about 13 bucks a dish), but the chef clearly can cook. Service was off but it just opened so I’m willing to give a mulligan. Had to ask three times for water and the waiter asked my kids to help him clear the table before dessert. Plates were also super cheap looking which detracted from presentation and doesn’t fit with the look of the restaurant. Not a bad option in a northern Chinese dominated food area.
