Good stereo system. One of the oldest ktv place in flushing. I don’t know how it survived till today with all the far stronger competitors i only come here for lounge open bar singing. It is 15 dollar for as long as you can sing. Because it is public not in a private room. It takes turn, every person get 2 songs max per round. But this place is not crowded. So you get to sing every few other songs. Everyone knows everyone here. I got a slice of bday cake last time from the bday bartender girl. If you sing well like me you get discount haha. I don’t come here for the private room again. if you have balls to sing in public. Only thing is people smoke after 11 pm. It kills my throat. But if I crave to sing and get some applauses and don’t have enough head counts to split the bill as a group for private room, I learn to deal with the smoke by having my honey drop chamomile tea on the side while I sing my lung out.

Cali Red has been around Flushing for about 10 years. They went under renovation and changed owners. Now, the best thing about California Red is their PRICE. $ 10 before 8pm, and $ 20 after 8pm per room… BUT! Their soundproof is bad Their mics are bad Their bar crowd is VERY bad(old/fobby/chain smokers) And most importantly, their song selections are bad. Very outdated. We do come here when we don’t want to spend too much dough to belt some tunes, but don’t expect much, people. A plus* service, very nice :)

Prepare to be deaf. Especially if there are older guys(or ladies) waiting to karaōke outside by the bar. I never knew this place was called California Red Karaōke nor would you ever know that there was a place like this located in the building which has life insurance and dental offices. I did realize that they had a huge sign outside of the building if you looked up but since I’m short, it’s out of my field of vision. All in all, this place is decent but I only come with one friend of mine who knows the owner. Otherwise, I would be hard-pressed to stop by here with my friends since the crowd isn’t my scene.

it depends on what you’re looking for. its a fantastic deal if you don’t really care about the atmosphere, sound system, and old songs. Every thing about this place is old. Old furniture, old system, and old songs. The room is not sound proof so I can hear the people from outside and next door singing. The drinks are pretty awful too. I ordered an ice tea with honey and it was disgusting.

California Red is pretty janky compared to the other bigger & better, newer & cleaner karaōke spots in Flushing. So why go there at all? Because it’s crazy cheap compared to their competitors. They have happy hour everyday from 5PM to 9PM: $ 10/hour for a private room no matter how many people you have. Even after 9PM on the weekends, it’s only $ 20/hour for a private room, which is still a great deal compared to their competitors who charge at least twice as much. Also, as with most Chinese-run karaōke establishments, the room rate goes toward food and drinks. Hint: their mixed drinks are very weak(probably watered down), so if you’re drinking, stick to beer. They also have a decent selection of teas. Their entrance is a little difficult to spot even if you’re looking for it. It’s located on the second floor of a nondescript business complex, a couple doors down from Kung Fu Tea. Go through this door: and take the elevator up to the«M» floor. The elevator opens up directly into their main bar space; all the private karaōke rooms surround and open into the main bar space. In the past couple of times I’ve been to California Red, I’ve noticed that the bar area seems to be populated by groups of older men who smoke and drink profusely, get rowdy playing dice and flirting with the girl bartenders, and sing occasionally. If that doesn’t sound like your type of crowd, definitely opt for a private room. Cali Red’s no frills private rooms are built for small groups. Their sound system is passable but far from great. Most karaōke places use wireless mics, so the fact that California Red still uses the old school wired mics is a little annoying. There’s also a tendency for the sound to come out a little muffled so you’ll have to adjust your singing distance from the mic to account for this effect. Since the walls are pretty thin, most of the time you can hear the next room and bar area. The simple solution to this problem: crank up the volume in your own room. Cali Red’s clientele is mostly Chinese-speakers looking to sing Chinese songs, and the song selection reflects that. They have an extensive selection of Chinese songs, new and old. If you want to sing English songs, you’re limited to whatever is in their English song binder(i.e. not much). While they can’t compete with the larger karaōke places in style or sound quality, California Red manages to fill a niche that the others don’t by being a great bargain. Basically, if you only have 2 – 4 people and you don’t want to pay $ 40−50/hour for a casual karaōke experience, then California Red is the place for you. However, if you’re planning to host a large karaōke party*, this is NOT the place for you. Choose wisely. *For large karaōke parties, book Monster, DIYuan, or Place@Main.

It’s a decent karaōke place if: 1) you are chinese; 2) you are looking for asian style karaōke, not a dancing floor 3) you want spend minimum amount of money lol. if you meet all three things mentioned above — great, this is the place for you! It’s cheap and the karaōke system in private rooms is pretty good. they also have so many new chinese songs.

So that’s what this place is called! didn’t know it had a name… Think the first time I came here was on «latin night». Looking back on that, I suppose I was being naively optimistic when I thought there’d be asian people dancing to lat… dancing at all, actually. but hey, they tried, and i appreciate the attempt. Walked into the building, saw signs for like dentists and stuff(?), took an elevator, and the doors parted, revealing a bar and a confused environment of reggaeton and chinese people sitting around chatting or playing complex versions of rock-paper-scissors. Yes, their english song selection is lacking. And too often people select sad chinese ballads. And they need to update their software because it’s not(english) user friendly. But it’s a fun place for a group and you don’t have to worry about having to make a reservation or about them kicking you out after your allotted time. The service is really good, staff is really nice, and the other groups are friendly. You can karaōke right in the bar area if you can play nice and take turns. I like this place as a bar and as a place to hang out. As a karaōke establishment… errr… meh.

This place is a dump. Not only that, but they allow rampant smoking(UM, hello, NYC laws apply to Chinese places too). I feel like I’ve fallen into a chimney whenever I come here which is why those times have been countable on one hand. The clientele here is… I’m not even sure how to phrase it in a PC way. Let’s just say I’d rather not associate myself with the people that patronize this place. They pretend to be high class by ordering Johnnie and green tea… hah. Hilarious.

This place is pricey and mediocre. It’s obviously a Chinese karaōke bar and lounge. Their English song book here is horrendous. They serve food here but it’s a little pricey. They do offer complimentary chips which is cool. The main issue I have this karaōke bar, it has like no advertisement outside of their building. It is located above Busy Mall on Main St. For the general public, how are they suppose to notice a karaōke bar when they walk by? Drinks — Their cocktails here are decent. But the majority of people here order bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label or Chivas Regal along with a pitcher of green tea. They have specials and package deals but it’s still can still be a little pricey for some individuals. Karaōke — If you’re Chinese, there’s plenty of songs for you to sing but as for the English selection, there is mad little and it’s very outdated. Get with the program please. The TV screens here are kinda small and the mics/sound isn’t the best. Service — The service here is fine. They do have some cute asian girls bar tending here from time to time. Verdict — I personally don’t go karaōke often but when I do, I rather go somewhere else. Discount or no discount, this place doesn’t fit my budget.
