I’m so glad I found this hidden gem in Floral Park! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it here on Unilocal while doing the whole ‘what do you want to eat tonight?’ routine. Everything we had was awesome! I started with a tortellini soup that was amazing, he had a wedge salad. For dinner we had penne alla vodka with chicken which was some of the best pasta I’ve ever tasted(and I eat a lot of pasta!) and veal sorrentino, also excellent with a generous portion! We will definitely be returning really soon!

Wonderful service, reasonable price, and delicious food is how I would describe this gem in the Village of Floral Park. I came here on a Friday night around 8pm with my wife after we recently moved to the area. The restaurant was very busy and it looked like there was going to be a long wait, we were told about 20 minutes for a table and we were seated in only 10 minutes! My wife had a delicious pasta with cream sauce and I had the pork chops which was a huge portion for only $ 20. This has quickly became our favorite neighborhood spot. We will definitely be back! PS: Ask to be seated in Mary Beth’s section, she is a fun and cheerful server.

Nothing negative to say about this awesome neighborhood Italian spot. The waitstaff was very attentive and personable without being overbearing. The synergy between the kitchen and the wait staff was awesome. Went there with 3 generations of family and all were super impressed with the food and the service. Restaurant opened at 5, by 515 it was more than half filled so I suggest making a reservation to assure your table at this great eatery. Waitstaff asked if they could put the hot food for the 5 year old not in front of him which was a welcome and pleasant offer. The bolognese, rigatoni Ala vodka, pork chops were all delicious. Very apparent immediately food was crafted with love. Pastas were all extremely fresh. The waitresses are very comfortable and knowledgeable. The owner takes pride as she should as this was a gem and was probably the best italian food we ate this pass year. Please please take the time to try this wonderful restaurant sooner than later so you don’t regret waiting to try one of best spots in eastern queens/western Nassau. Wine list was very reasonable in terms of markups and good selections. I registered for Unilocal just so I could make this review. I am a foodie and wine guy and have not felt this passionate about a restaurant in many years. A delightful breathe of fresh air. One last thing. Come hungry as portions are genourlus and oddly not expensive. No downside aside from not enough room in our filled bellies for dessert.

Hidden Gem in floral park. The food is great especially the homemade malfatti pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. The short rib with polenta is another solid option that always hits the spot. The only negative is that it is small and consistently has long waits at peak dining times.

The food is rocking at Poppy’s. Everything cooked to perfection. Won’t be disappointed with any selection on the menu. Went with a group of women and all were happy with their dishes. You have to try the pound cake… it was so delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try other things on menu.

Saturday night and Bonnie G. And I fired up the GPS and entered Poppy’s address and were on our way. Finding this place turned into a search for the lost world! Going down Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park the nice voice says turn left turn right turn left go .2 miles and there it will be… It was not as easy as it sounds… but when we found it located on a quiet little street in what seemed like a residential area we realized this is a locals secret spot !! What a find… This little hidden Gem is a real winner. We entered to find a large bar with lots of friendly folks standing and sitting enjoying themselves. A really sweet lady greeted us and took us to this smallish dining room in the back past the bar… It was crowded but our two top was beckoning for us to sit and join in the festivities. We were quickly approached by our server; Mary Beth… a real sweety that greeted us like old friends and we had an instant bonding! There cant be more than 12 tables back there but that made it that much more intimate… the type of place you can bring a date or your significant other. There was a cacophony of sound that allowed all conversations at your table to stay at your table cause you cant hear the banter above the din. We really had a wonderful first impression which stayed with us during our meal. We ordered a bottle of Rosso and Bianco Coppola Chardonnay which went great with our meal and was $ 33. For appys we ordered Fried Calamari and Baked Clams. The Calamari was thin rounds fried crisp with a really tasty maranara sauce. The Baked Clams were whole and delicious… could have used some more garlic sauce to dip bread in. Our mains were also winners. I had Lamb Shank in a heavy wine reduction with a side of Capellini in Clam Sauce, which while good needed some more liquid. Bonnie G. had her old standby; Veal Parm with spaghetti also a winner. The only thing better than the food was the SERVICE! Mary Beth took such good care of our needs and kept smiling which kept the mood festive and the spirits lite. No rezzys for less than 5 people so come around 9pm and you should be ok. For real… you have to crank up your GPS and visit Poppy’s Place.

I must admit, I have only been there for lunch a number of times since my 2013 visit. The place has totally redeemed itself with me. It truly is a LOCAL place and its nice to see how many regulars are known as they come in. There is a new owner now, she worked there for 84 years before purchasing the place. I wish it was closer to me. Go there for lunch, great Lunch Specials. As far as what to get… It’s all good, no kidding.

Poppy’s though small is mighty. A hole in the wall Italian restaurant that serves amazing yet affordable Italian cuisine served by friendly waitstaff. Warm, homey and inviting with platters of desserts as you walk in. Prepare to enjoy incredible food every time you dine there.

This place is small and amazing. My first time there and it will not be my last. Don’t know why I waited so long to go. I have lived in the area over 20 years. When we got there(Friday night) it was packed. Everyone was very nice and attentive and we did not have to wait long. I ordered their specials which was butternut squash soup and seafood crepes. The food was amazing and bountiful. I was debating between that and the scallops on the regular menu. My husband ordered the fusilli puttanesca. There was a mistake both on my part and the waitress and both the crepes and scallops were ordered. I tried to pay for it and the waitress refused to charge for the scallops. I tried to give it to her in a tip and she refused to take it. I didn’t want anyone to take it out on her pay. Needless to say we went home with a lot of food. As I stated, the place is small but everyone can be seated comfortably. The food is amazing. My husband and I shared a Hugh bowl of butternut squash(delicious, silky and creamy.) the crepes were stuffed with seafood. Very tasty cream sauce on top. Absolutely great. These were the specials of the night. The plate of stuffed crepes could easily feed more than two. It was meant for one! Imagine my surprise when the waitress described them as appetizers! As previously stated, we went home full and happy with a lot of food. Go there. It is a great place full of friendly people and great food!

Food was good, service falls a bit short. The waitress was way too busy, and there only were two! One that half tended a bar, and half served food. Not a good combination. We ordered the caesar salad, OK. Zucchini sticks were good, but the two took almost half an hour! We had to speak to the manager to get our main course. Surprisingly good! We can see why it’s packed in here. Worth to come if you have a little excess funds and time on your hands!!! Bottom line: more servers would be a welcome addition!

Ok so first off, the two sister that own or run this place are absolutely charming, warm and super accommodating. As for the food… Start with the meatballs. If your not sure what an amazing meatball tastes like, start here and you will know for the rest of your life. The beet salad was delicious and simple. You can enjoy all the favors. On to the entrees, Our group had the salmon with pesto, braised lamb shank and the veal saltimbocca. I had the veal. I was torn between that and the cheese tortellini in cream sauce. So they accommodated me by giving me a small side of the pasta to taste. The veal was delicious and came with yummy linguine. The tortellini was delicious too. The pan roasted salmon with the pesto was delicious though not my favorite way to prepare salmon. As for the braised lamb shank, It was exceptionally delicious. I saw others in the restaurant ordering the pork chops with the bone in and the pork cutlet dish which also looked spectacular. I will absolutely be back to this establishment.

Friendly service and a healthy pour on the wine by the glass. Linguine with white clam sauce is my go to and the Cala Delo calamari is excellent. Always packed from the tables in the back to the bar upfront.

I am aware that Poppys is under new management and it is better than ever!!! All the food is great. Burgers are cooked to perfection and he fries are delish! Sandwiches are great and so is the calamari! If you are ever craving pasta they have the best around and at a reasonable price! I love the pasta primavera in a cream sauce or the home made linguini with shrimp in cream sauce. The waitress is always so sweet and attentive. The place is small but always feels comfortable. Went yesterday and had the best rigatoni a la vodka with a chicken cutlet. Was amazing! Could not wait to eat my left overs, as the portion was tremendous. Can’t wait to visit again!

Under new ownership,(and they are ABSOLUTEDOLLS). The service is excellent and the food is very good. They make you feel like family. Very warm generosity. The Thursday night bartender(Phil) is a very good bartender and very hospitable, like the rest of the staff. You can’t ever go wrong if you dine here.

We had our daughters graduation party at Poppy’s Place in May and it was perfect. Having the entire restaurant for our party was great and the food was delicious. The appetizers were generous and served family style. Nice selection of entrees. We brought our own graduation cake. Everyone had a fantastic time. I give them 5 stars without hesitation.

Came in here a couple of months ago with a friend. Place was packed but the manager Donna found a spot for us at the bar to sit. We loved it. Clearly a family we felt we were now a part of. Everyone that works here all had smiles on their faces & couldn’t do enough to please you. We ordered a couple of apps & the food was outrageous! The bartender Joanne was courteous, friendly, & very attentive. I can’t stop raving about Poppy’s to everyone! Definitely worth a stop — it’s a gem!!! Slainte!

I recently fell in love with this place, even though id been here quite a few times thru the years! Not sure what happened, but this place is Dynamite! Short ribs are amazing, «moe’s» pasta dishes are incredible, and the Calamari Cala-delo is a must. Tiny place(maybe 10 tables) but the food is impeccable, and I’d send anyone there without hesitation. Keep it up Poppy’s, you may be my #1 for the time being, hope you can keep it up!
