A top notch symphony, in my book. What a great asset for our oft-trashed city. In a frequently depressing city, the FSO is one of the community’s greatest assets and yet another hidden gem of the cultural center. Just about every performance of the FSO has held my interest intently and going to pretty much any one of the symphony performances throughout the year at the Whiting is always a treat. There have been so many great performances, it’s hard to single out just one in particular, although I will give it a shot and say the evening of Tchaikovsky was among my favorites. Their performances in conjunction with the annual productions of The Nutcracker and Holiday Pops at the Whiting are always something that shouldn’t be missed. FSO conductor Enrique Diemecke has been with the symphony for several years now and does a great job of bringing out the best in the musicians. I think this symphony definitely rivals those in larger cities, that’s for certain. A treat for anyone who enjoys classical music.
