Little Yelpers Club Pajama Party with Jack’s Donut

I wrote a review of this event when I was accidentally logged on as Peter P. Now I can’t seem to remove it. So… read his review. :-)

We had so much fun at our first Little Unilocalers event. My toddler wasn’t quite old enough to participate fully in the doughnut decorating activity, but he sure loved eating the final product! I had never heard of Jack’s Donut before and enjoyed learning more about the company and most importantly trying some. It was well organized, and the kids were kept busy throughout. Can’t wait for the next event!

Solid first putting for little Unilocalers. The choice of location was excellent as anything involving sprinkles and icing will always be a hit with kids. The kids all had a great time and the donuts were very tasty. Also like with all Unilocal events there was lots of good information from the owner on the background and day to day particulars of the business.
Two general notes I would like to leave for future little Unilocalers events are:
1. The info from the business/​owner is great but probably more interesting for the adults so if that could be given while the kids are doing whatever the activity is would probably helpful.
2. Doing something where all of the kids can do the activity at the same time would be a good idea I think. With the donuts every kid wanted to be next but obviously only one can. So maybe setting it up so all kids can do the activity together would work out better.

Our trip to Jack’s was a first for our family. The staff were very patient with the little ones and I enjoyed the 2 smaller groups to keep everyone’s attention. Unilocal had a few samples for the adults. I was most impressed with the texture of the doughnuts. It was soft, doughy but with a surprising fullness to the interior. Not the usual bite which deflates into big pockets of air. Our little guy LOVES doughnuts and gave his masterpiece a thumbs up and finished every crumb. I loved them so much I tracked down the Jacks in Carmel tucked at the end of strip mall and picked up some for the rest of family.

I certainly appreciate including the little Unilocalers (although I don’t have any children). They will probably follow their parents’ love for Unilocal and donuts.
Although I would have enjoyed seeing them make their donuts, I understand that donuts are not made all throughout the day nor would I like to be up in the early hours of the morning. The tour and talk were still educational about Jack’s Donuts franchise and how they make their donuts. I appreciate them allowing this little kid in me to decorate my own donut. It was neat. Thanks for sharing the details of your donut making process. Unfortunately, I wished I tried some of their unique donuts.

Such a fun event for my family! My husband and I brought our 3 kiddos to the 2pm event. There was coffee and soda to get us started and then a just-​long-​enough tour and production explanation before the real fun started! The kids each got to decorate their own donut and color a paper one!
I think this little Unilocalers event is a great first start of things to come. It wasn’t too long, wasn’t too complicated, and included things that most kids enjoy (donuts and coloring!). The grownups got the opportunity to learn more about the business too, so it was fun for the whole family.
We can’t wait for the next event!

Little Unilocalers @ Jack’s Donut… was a SCORE! My 2 daughters had a fun time learning about the donuts and getting a chance to decorate their own donut! It was nice that they had a selection of toppings… not to much as to get overwhelmed, but just enough to keep the kiddo’s big and small happy! Though I’m on a diet… I completely fell of the bus for these donuts… they were SOOO GOOD! Thanks Jack’s Donuts!

This was a really fun event and just long enough. We were in and out in about an hour. Our 16-​month-​old toddler went and it was the perfect length of time to hold her attention. We were grateful for the Unilocal swag in the form of a Unilocal bib for the messy one and a cute «Little Unilocalers Club» sticker for her to pull on and off her shirt about a million times.
I thought the two shift approach was smart. Rather than the kids waiting too long to decorate their doughnuts, one group was able to color doughnut pictures, drink soda, and mingle. The other group had a tour of the kitchen. The discussion of all they do seemed short to me, then I remembered, THIS IS GEARED TO KIDS! Looking through that lens, Jack’s Donut’s talked just long enough about what they do, how they make doughnuts, and where they will soon have new locations — follow them on social media to find out! The kids all had a good time decorating and eating their creations. And the kid-​sized bibs that Jack’s provided were the cutest things ever. Definitely check out the pictures on the event page!
I want to give a shout out to my fellow Unilocal parents and kiddos. I was very pleased to see all the grownups acting like grownups and all the kids behaving. When the owner asked for a volunteer to make the first doughnut, no one raced up or demanded to be first. I actually asked the other parents if we could go first, since my toddler was starting to get squirmy. They all graciously let us, with several giving that «yeah, I feel you» look that only other parents really get. So props to you, Unilocalers, for helping make the event. Pushy parents and bratty kids can ruin even the coolest experience. That so did not happen here.
One minor suggestion for next time — have at least a couple plastic knives and forks available. Some of the kids were too small to eat an entire doughnut. It would have been nice to cut them up into bite-​sized pieces (or split one with the kid before they squeezed and squished the entire thing).
One suggestion for Jack’s would be to explain to the kids why they needed to wear gloves before decorating their doughnuts. Kids (i.e. carrier monkeys) can never be told enough the importance of sanitation. It was WONDERFUL that gloves were used; it would be great to explain why.

What a sweet little event! It was such a treat to bring our tiny (yet adorable + super awesome) little «third wheel» to a Unilocal event of his own today!
He loved decorating his own donut, eating some of it, and running around like he owned the place — and I loved watching him have so much fun (and polishing off the remainder of his donut like any good parent). ;) I also totally appreciated the free coffee tasting (caramel — yummy!), the behind-​the-​scenes tour of the back of the house, and a chance to purchase a few donuts from the fully stocked cases!
I would be super stoked to bring my little guy to a future «Little Unilocaler’s Club» event! We love exploring the city and trying new things w/​him and can’t wait for more adventures!
Bonus: I got to see the machine that puts the goop inside the filled donuts. Who knew? I thought it was done w/​a piping bag kind of thing, but now I know. I feel like I’m in on an industry secret, but in reality the rest of y’all reading this probably already knew this was a thing.

Not to be shown up by the Unilocalers who have children, my husband and I came to this event childless just because we love donuts that much. We both decorated our own (paper) donuts, and mine is now hanging on the fridge at home. We also saw some behind the scenes donut-​ry (think giant vats of all the different toppings and fillings, the huge mixing bowls for the dough, the proofing area, etc.) and learned a little more about the donut making process. My creation was a yeast donut with a little bit of vanilla icing and a lot of sprinkles. I would’ve loved to have tried some mini samples of their most popular varieties (the Jack’s Donuts representative mentioned cronuts!), but I understand that that would’ve gotten crazy quickly with all the kiddos around.
I’d never been anywhere near this Jack’s Donuts location before, but I liked that it was nestled inside a little neighborhood. They were very hospitable hosts on this Sunday afternoon! I was happy to meet some of the next generation of Unilocalers – they grow up so quickly!
