I haven’t been to a Cracker Barrel in years but on a cold, rainy windy evening their chicken and dumplings certainly hit the spot! Nice large pieces of white meat chicken and dumplings were awesome. Their fresh bicuits and cornbread were yummy. I had cooked baby carrots that were a bit too sweet but I don’t usually add anything to carrots so for some people, it might be ok to them. I also had a side salad that had mixed greens and veggies, it wasn’t all iceberg as some side salads are served so that’s a bonus to me! Dining partner had grilled catfish with cole slaw and said it was good as well. Just plain great comfort food and the big, hickory smelling fire in the fireplace completed the experience.

Why is it when I find a place that serves a decent, sit down breakfast, the lunch and dinner menu are terrible?
That’s exactly the way I feel about Cracker Barrel. We will visit for breakfast plenty of times during the year, but the rest of the menu is a deterrent. I’ve never had a dinner I liked here. That’s unfortunate.
Sure, the old-​timey décor may be a little hokey, and the aerial assault from the gift shop rivals that of a Bath & Body Works, but I will put up with that for their breakfast.
