No pros to speak of. Wayyyy overpriced for meat and cheese. Burger was da-ripping with grease which completely grossed us out! 3 napkins and counting to soak it all up. Not a place to go for phillys never mind food in general. We gave in after 2 bites, threw it in the garbage and went elsewhere. Gross!!!

What’s the first thing you do upon landing in Philadelphia? Get a cheese steak! And that’s exactly what my friend and I did. We decided to check out Steve’s for our first ever steak. Holy. Moly. This food was incredible. We ordered«one Whiz with» and split it, along with an order of fries. As we knew we had big dinner reservations later, splitting this meal was perfect. The sandwich was amazing. Drippy, delicious cheese, and perfectly cooked steak. I could have eaten 5 of them, it was so good. Sigh… The service was incredibly friendly and efficient. It’s a well-oiled machine at Steve’s and it works. Do not miss out on this spot – you’ll be so happy you checked it out!

Came in because a local told us it was good. The girl in front with the blonde hair treated us extremely disrespectful and full of attitude. As a result, the rest of the staff did the same. The food was not that great. Best thing was the fries with the American cheese. Not worth a second attempt.

The place is supposed to be a good cheesesteak spot. They were out of all chicken, mozzarella, and provolone. What kind of prince is Steve if he don’t have cheese to put on cheese steaks? While in line two people got in a fight, a drunk chick tried to cut everyone multiple times, and there was a good fight. This place is like a worse version of five guys but with cheese steaks.

First time in Philly. First thing was to eat a Philly Cheese steak. I really like the place, not tacky. very local. We were recommended by a concierge from a Hotel. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon. The guy who take your order is very nice and cool. The sandwich itself is ok. I don’t know if I was expecting for something amazing. the cheese and the meat was pretty good(and greasy) but the Italian bread was just Meeeh. I am not a huge found of Italian bread so the experience for me was just ok. Some friends gave me another address so I believe I will give the Philly Cheese Steak another chance but not here.

WIIIIIZZZZZ will be the death of me, literally. Broke my Philly cheesesteak cherry here. ‘Twas an interesting experience. I turned around to ask the dude behind me how to order and he was very helpful(luckily a Philly native). Ordered the original with wiz and no onions and some spicy fries. The spicy fries were super salty(it tasted as if they just poured shin ramen spicy powder packets over the fries). Love that there was free for all jalapeños(LA girl here, can’t live without ‘em). Overall good experience. It’s one of those things you try for the sake of trying but don’t think I’ll ever really crave one again.

Been to Pat’s, Geno’s, but this place blows them away. Great service as well, unlike the others. Whiz wit!!!

The service was fine but I think they get their meat from an old leather shoe that is sliced up in a meat-like fashion. Their meat was so dry we had to pour chili juice on it to make it edible. The bread was soft but doing that to cheesesteak meat? That’s a crime.

My girlfriend and I got in around 10:30 pm for a steak. The side condiments were fantastic. Pickles and peppers blew my mind but the hot sauce didn’t. Wasn’t tasty. Bread was soft and good, onions were alright, whiz was good. Steak wasn’t chopped but had a decent flavor. Service was quick. Total was 21 bucks with no fries or drinks. I wouldn’t come back.

When in Philly, you have to get a cheesesteak, right? Right. But be careful where you get it. Steve’s is clearly not the best cheesesteak in the land(or on the block, for that matter). The ingredients aren’t exactly fresh and the bread wasn’t anything special. But when it’s 3am and the bars just closed, just about anything sounds good. Great location downtown near the hotels. To top it off, the prices were absurd. And oh yea, this place is cash only. I don’t mind paying for good food, but give me something to pay for — -definitely not a loaf of bread with a single layer of pepperoni-sized beef medallions, a few onions, and a little bit of cheese. If you find yourself in Philly wanting a good cheesesteak, head north up into the deep hood and try Max’s. You won’t be disappointed.

Probably my WORST experience in philadelphia to date… Here I am 10 years later eating what used to be my «favorite steak». After ordering a cheese steak whiz with onions, pepperoni I asked the man at the register(Police walked in to get the guy’s name for me –Kyle) if I could have the cheese steak closer to time as I wished to let him know I would be ordering cheese fries. I expressed to him my experience at the N East bvld location to say that I received my sandwiches almost 20 minutes after receiving the fries. This guy laughed at me and asked for the next customer. After ordering the fries I asked the«fry maker» if he would ask if the cooks could make another sandwich as the firs were coming out and he told me he couldn’t ask because he was just here to collect a check. After my sandwich was up I walked over to ask the cashier if he wouldn’t mind creating a new sandwich as the fries weren’t up yet. The same cashier that laughed at me and began to service a new customer whilst still standing there say to me that I am being redo cultus and that he would NOT make a new sandwich. As my sandwich is sitting on the counter top he takes it away from me, tells me I’m a condescending asshole and looks to his«friends» colleagues and says«now you have no steak to go with your hot fries and proceeds to hand me $ 9.50. After he put this in my hands he tells me to get the F out of the store before he calls the cops. I ask this guy what is wrong with my questioning, he laughs and says«who do you think you are?», I respond My name is Joshua Hill. He lets me know I’m a nobody, who cares and repeats my name to his colleagues and lowers his voice to ask me(«I dare you to touch me») «come on» snarky«I will enjoy eating your sandwich. As I type this I have already called 911 to creat a report of «discrimination».

Pros: Good roll, good quality meat, lots of cheese Cons: The steak is not chopped up and mixed with the onions, cheese is more of a cheese sauce than melted slices of American cheese, not enough steak to fill the roll The cons outweigh the pros. Although the steak is probably good enough to satisfy the tourists or suburbanites, there are better places in Philly to get a cheesesteak.

All I know is when you’re drunk as a skunk, you smell of bar funk, it’s 3 am you’re hungry and stumped Just go here. Double meat/wiz/fried onions(as a non pat’s/genos craphole groupie the wit wiz thing never caught on for me, long as my family’s been in this city… Yeah it’s overpriced, but cmon ding dong, who’s going to serve you a delicious, disgusting, greasy fried meat and onions with space cheese at 3AM. All you guys going here during the day(and to top it off, complaining) are like bobos trying to find the big dipper on your telescope on a nice overcast day at 2 in the afternoon. Its never going to be good. But like most things when you’re drunk, it was great at the time. Except that time you voted for George Bush’s second term and took home a Tranny.

I went here for lunch with my bf who had a hankering for a cheesesteak. Let’s just say that while his craving was satisfied, it left a lot lacking. I tried the tossed salad instead, trying to eat healthy but tasted his steak. The salad and steak were both bland &nondescript. I tasted his steak & note that the bread was fresh but the steak was thinly sliced & not in abundance. The cheese seemed to be some type of cheese sauce :(. The onions were not chopped up and blended in with the meat, as most places serve it in Philly. The lettuce was not chopped up well and this establishment had no knives available to cut the salad, only forks. I had grilled buffalo chicken & found the chicken to be bland & barely seasoned. The Buffalo sauce couldn’t even be tasted. This place is definitely one & done. I won’t be returning here. There are plenty of great places in Philly to get a cheesesteak. Philly born & bread for sure — I know what a good cheesesteak should taste like.

If you’re looking for a cheesesteak in Center city, you could do a lot worse than Steve’s. It’s nothing fancy but it’s got two lines — one for cheese steaks and one for everything else. I went with the pizza steak, with the onions of course. I found it delicious if a little messy. the key with these is the bread and fortunately, Steve’s has very good bread. What is odd is that the steak isn’t chopped up. It’s their style. The fries were fine — nothing special and good to share. But you come here for the cheesesteak and for those, it’s a winner.

Pretty typical standard cheesesteak, nothing too complicated. Got a steak with wiz and onions – the steak was sliced a little too thick and was a little over cooked unfortunately. At least they have an array of toppings you can self serve.

I’ve been on my own cheesesteak festival(went to Pats and Geno’s recently). I originally thought that Steve’s was significantly better than Pat’s or Geno’s. My latest adventure over made me re-calibrate my rankings. I would say Pats then Steve’s then Geno’s. Ordered a cheesesteak whiz with(onions). The whiz was too overbearing and basically made the hoagie limp and needed some Viagra. I do like the fact that Steve’s does have better quality meat(but they don’t dish out a lot so you may need to ask for double meat like other folk have mentioned). They also offer melted American, which none of the other places have. Unfortunately, if I had to judge based on whiz, the meat is good, but the overall sandwich was really messy and unstable. Will need to check out other places to finalize my power rankings of cheesesteaks in Philly.

Worth a return? Nope. Cheesesteak wasn’t my style – the meat was thicker. And the Tuna Hoagie was bland and a bit dry. Worth a 30 minute drive? My hotel was a block from here – no way. I’m sticking with Paesano’s, Koch’s, and Sunny’s Worth a flight? Nope.

Since I was primarily staying near the Parkway Museums District of Center City, it would’ve been a bit inconvenient to head down to South Philly just to wait in line for Pat’s, Geno’s, or Tony Luke’s. My colleague consulted Google, and on Alan Richman’s list of 10 Best Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, Steve’s was listed at #6, and we stopped in at their location on 16th and Market. Thinner but soft, buttery roll, meat grilled flat, sliced thick and not served chopped up, very tender. I got mine«American with»(house special: white American cheese in liquid form). Came back once before the end of my trip to try the Whiz and Provolone variations. Yum! We also got the spicy fries to share, which were excellent! Not sure if I like how you order steaks at one window and drinks/sides at another, cash only.

Second time around, my cheesesteak was good, really good. Plenty of whiz and sautéed onions, and the meat was cooked nicely. I gave this place a second shot and I’m glad I did. Side note non-food related: Fight broke out among the cooks in the kitchen. Highly entertaining, nobody injured, customers were amused.
