Service was very friendly and accommodating. Décor is weird. It consists of a ton of metallic-looking tables and chairs. Chicken tikka masala came out lukewarm was lacking in flavor. I got the impression that it was sitting under the heating lamp for ages. Rice had very little seasoning. This meal was disappointing. For $ 11, it was a small portion. You might as well go to Sitar or New Delhi to grab all you can eat.

Ordered from here a couple weeks ago. The delivery was a little late, but, the food was thankfully piping hot and what we ordered. Everything was delish, but, I agree the portions were a little small for I paid but I also half chalked this up to getting lamb curry. I most def must give a star back for their Indian twist on a cheesesteak. The flavorful spices and peppers mash well with the traditional Philly treat. This and an order of cheesefries came to about $ 30 after tip. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Shaban is where I head to whenevr I crave for chicken biriyani. Their freshly baked naan is too good with chicken karahi. I just love the food here. These guys do great catering too. Their Samosa and Mango lassi made my school’s big event more awesome. Nothing was compromised for such a huge order, Thanks Shaban :) The only minus is less quantity, a little more on my plate would have made me love this place even more. I definitely recommend this place to my friends as this is the must go place when you crave for ‘like home food’!

The flavor of their food is pretty good, but portions are small, rice costs extra, and there’s not much protein in their dishes. I only order curry when I’m making white rice at home and even then feel like I’m overpaying. The taste is good though, can’t knock that.

This was by far the WORST Indian food I’ve ever had in my LIFE!!! I ordered channa masala, baigan bharta, aloo gobi, vegetable samosa, vegetable pakoras, aloo tikiya, and zeera rice. I ordered this for delivery. The portion of rice was an utter joke. It came in a tiny styrofoam box and it had hardly any flavor. The aloo tikiya, vegetable pakoras, and vegetable samosa were all so greasy and soggy that they were inedible. I ordered aloo gobi and instead got some disgusting okra dish — I was pissed. The baigan bharta came intact with its leathery, burned skin. So gross. The only thing that was partially edible was the channa masala and even that was the worst channa masala I ever had. It was the only thing I finished and mostly because after spending $ 30 on takeout, I felt I had to finish something. I would NEVER go to this place again and in fact, I’m tempted to try to get my money back through GrubHub.

Today the owner gave me a call to talk about the situation. I’m pleased with his determination and level of accountability. He assured me that there was a misunderstanding and that I would be taken care of in the future. Fingers crossed!

Stop serving your customers old chicken and make sure to preheat the food instead of serving cold tikka masala, was on my way to saad halal resturant but I didn’t know saad closes on Sunday so settled for this place and was unhappy.

I received a phone call from the manager at Shaban one day after I wrote the review. He called to apologize about the food and told me that he spoke to the chef. He then offered to refund my money and provide me with free lunch. About 1.5 hours later the driver came to my house with my money in hand and some selections the manager chose for me. He gave me chicken bihari kabob, boneless lamb curry, chicken biryani, garlic naan, and rasmali. I have to say, all was pretty tasty. What I’m more impressed about is how attentive the manager was, and how he immediately tried to rectify the experience from the night before. I have written many reviews and no one has ever gone through such extensive lengths in order to make my experience better. I emphatically support this establishment.

I was craving for indian food tonight and my usual places I order from were closed so I settled for this late night joint that I was hoping it would have satisfied my cravings! Unfortunately, it was nothing comparable to the local indian restaurants in university city. I ordered the following: garlic naan, shami kabob, chicken leg tandoori and curry chicken with zeera rice. The only good thing I can say was the chicken leg tandoori was flavorful and spicy… but other than that, the curry chicken did not taste a bit like curry… it was a mauve color that had this odor to it. and tasted awful. The garlic naan did not have any taste of garlic and the shami kabob I could of skipped. So very disappointed with this place. Will never order from them again.

I’m very disappointed. I looked at my Bank Statement and saw a charge from them that was unauthorized. I contacted them and was expecting a call back, it didn’t happen. I never got a call back. I contacted my bank to resolve the charge. Very upset with how this was handled.

This place was good to begin with but within a short span of 6 months, they have managed to become one of the worst places in the university city area. Last time when I ordered their Bihari and Seekh kebabs, the meat was literally burnt. I had to throw away the entire order. Anyways, I thought I should give this place another chance. So I ordered some vegetarian dishes. Needless to say they were again bad and I could easily sense that they were selling old/stale food. Please do not go to this place. You will fall sick.

Their garlic naan is quite good, but I wasn’t even close to being impressed by their chicken tikka masala or chicken curry. Or their small servings. If I ever return, it would be for a desperate middle-of-the-night craving for Indian food – they have very late hours, which is always a plus on campus.

I came here for dinner a few weeks ago craving some good(non-Sitar) Indian food near Penn’s campus. I heard about Shaban and decided to drop by. Shaban has pretty well-priced combo meals with lots of options so I suggest those if you are looking for variety but at a reasonable price. I ordered the Dal Makhni which was more in the traditional /healthy style of Indian cooking. Some Indian restaurants load their food with cream but Shaban’s is made the way it should be — light and healthy. I also ordered the roti which was absolutely fresh and delicious. I could come here just for the roti and leave perfectly content(no joke). This is not a place to be pampered, however, so don’t expect a five-star treatment. However, if you are looking for the closest thing to homemade Indian food within a stone’s throw of Penn’s campus and that won’t break the bank — Shaban is a great option! I will definitely come back for more cravings!

Wow! This place is so good! The naan is fresh baked from scratch. They have a brick oven for the naan and tandoori. They use fresh spices and cook the meat to delicious perfection. The sauces, such as in the Tikka Masala might have a more basic taste(canned tomatoes), but this is why it’s also an economical place. If you’re looking for healthy, delicious fast food, take-out or eat-in, in University City, this is the pefect place!

I’ll be honest — when best house pizzeria closed down and I saw the sign that a «kabob» place was opening up across the street from Kabobeesh, I was nervous for them. But I’m glad to say that after having their food twice in one week, and going back to Kabobeesh to compare, I think they’ll be just alright. I think one clear advantage that Shaban has over Kabobeesh is their extensive menu. They have so many different options and fortunately, they have many options beyond kabobs. As their sign suggests they have kabobs and curry but it doesn’t end there. They have many traditional Indian food items on the menu and they offer a variety of vegetarian options on the menu. We’ve tried their combo kabob platter(mixed tandoori combo), chicken 65, curry chicken, lamb biryani, regular naan, and garlic naan. I’d say that their naan is definitely better than Kabobeesh’s and the chicken in the chicken curry and chicken 65 are tender, juicy and packed with flavor and heat. Their sauces are delicious and you’re going to want to make sure you order enough naan to sop it all up. And their lamb biryani was fantastic! One note about the mixed tandoori combo — it was good, but the lamb chop was a little too salty. I don’t know if they’re still working out their early kinks but I’d certainly be willing to try it again in the future. Oh and the mango lassi is great. It has a full mango flavor with a creaminess and body that goes down so smoothly. So yes. Solid start. I have high hopes for this place. I will definitely be back.

A new business near 42nd and chestnut with kabob, curry, AND pizza. Really? Yes, really. I went in simply because I was craving pizza and there was a flyer for their pizza in my mailbox. I ended up trying ore than their pizza including chickpeas, rice pudding, and chicken tikka. YUM. Especially the pudding, it was thicker than other versions I have tried. Clean and modern décor, with very friendly staff and excellent customer service. Small but adequate seating area. I presume the majority of their business is and will be takeout. They have a good selection of both vegetarian and meat options. Great place, especially for lunch. Will be back again.

Neat and clean. My first choice next time kufta on the nann with the yogurt sauce! I had tikka on the nann. It was wonderful =).
