I got the British Islander here… and it was disgusting. I can only speak to that one thing on the menu, but it was not potable in my opinion. Waste of 4 bucks.

What’s a better sight to a sleepy weary traveler than a coffee shop in the terminal, serving up warm caffeination to the tired masses? How about when that coffee shop is NOT a Starbucks? My body needed go-go juice, and my taste buds were pleasantly surprised that it didn’t come in the form of bitter, over-roasted coffee. As far as «Starbucks alternatives» go, Saxby’s is up among my favorite. They have a nice selection of dessert-like concoctions if that’s your thing, but they also make a great straight latte. The service here at 30th Street Station was friendly, and my coffee hit the spot.

I’d heard the cold brew iced coffee was good at saxbys, but I found it to be far too weak and would have preferred a more concentrated drink. I found the service to be quite friendly and very clear. The cashier even did a great job handling a customer who seemed very irritated that a pastry was labeled as an almond croissant, which the customer said would NOT be done in France!

Great coffee place. Get the Americana medium, you get three shots not two It is really good stuff. Come here all the time.

Tonija(?) Is that her name? Let’s me tell you something. She was one of the friendliest counter girls I’ve ever met! Talk about a ball of energy! I was waiting for a train and decided I need some liquid energy. I headed over to Saxbys and was pleasantly surprised by her. Super talkative. I got the Coconut Dream iced coffee. I was shocked when they had almond milk as a choice. I’m a Starbucks girl and always say I wish they had almond milk as an option. The iced coffee was good. Quick survey of the place and it was clean. The workers were so nice and they gave me so many great suggestions. Lol. Very quick also. I’ll def be back if I ever need coffee at the train station again.

It was fine. Nothing spectacular. Not particularly swill. The lady at the register was nice to me. She comped my almond flavoring, though she gave me an iced chai when I ordered hot, and I really don’t think both shots were in there(should have been watching). The chai was rather weak in flavor. I don’t know… maybe their sweetie drinks are a better bet… but, for the price, my chai should’ve been more on point. Still, it was fine.

I bought a latte and an almond croissant before boarding my train to New York. The pastry was edible, but not great. The latte, however, was absolutely un-drinkable. I mean, not just bad coffee; something was wrong with it. It tasted like paint thinner mixed with sea water. I didn’t have time to take it back, as I had to catch my train. The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the woman working there was so nice. I’m sure the coffee wasn’t her fault. It was likely a problem with the espresso machine.

Had a very good Café Au Lait here this morning on my way to a SATURDAY training session.(Oy!) Service was fast and friendly — even on a Saturday. The only downer? The aggressive homeless lady who asked me twice for change and then followed me around to the coffee condiment bar and hovered while I put Splenda in my au lait. Not Saxby’s fault — but not a great way to start the day.

Of the many places to get coffee within 30th street station — Saxby’s is my favorite. No issues accommodating skim options, extra shots, etc etc. It can get a bit pricey though, right along the lines of a Starbucks I guess. Their milk/sugar station isn’t the cleanest and it is quite small(squeezing in and out of all other commuters in a rush) but the workers are very friendly. I would only get coffee here though, their muffins and scones are disappointing/oily.(or maybe I am just starving after commuting from NYC).

Avoid any of the flavored iced coffee concoctions if you don’t want to go into sugar shock!

Stick with the Dunkin Donuts coffee which is across the hall. This is bleech! Picked up a cup to drink on my way to see some clients and after a few gulps made me wish I had gotten Dunkin. Seriously, why is there no Starbucks in this train station? Subway, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut are here. Meh.

Coffee is just OK, I am completely biased towards Dunkin. The only reason why I come here is because they have KICKASS chocolate chip muffins. They are moist, all they way down to the bottom… and we all know the coveted muffin top is the only good part of the muffin. I am already regretting writing this review, since they never have that many chocochip muffins in stock at a time.

No one really knows for sure why Starbucks is conspicuously missing from one of the city’s largest train stations. However, Saxby’s is a close second. In the summer I usually get an iced red eye, because I find coffee alone just isn’t strong enough. They also make a decent latte — though it doesn’t deliver quite the same punch that Starbucks does. Pumpkin latte? Delicious at Starbucks. Not so much here. Stick with the regular latte and ask for the extra shot and it will approximate a Starbucks regular latte. The coffee at Au Bön Pain and Cosi isn’t nearly as good. Don’t even get me started on Dunkin Donuts. Philly must be full of people that prefer mediocre coffee. They could be the slow walkers for all I know. If you pass through 30th Street Station, it’s worth while to get the frequent customer card so that you can earn a small(but free beverage) for every 8 cups you buy. And when nothing but Starbucks will do, there is a Starbucks on the Drexel campus at 34th and market or thereabouts.

I thought this would be better coffee or service or something since the locals talked it up to me… but the price of a large cup and the sociopathic stare kinda turned me off.

I think that Saxby’s represents an «upgrade» from the previous coffee place that inhabited this kiosk. Yes, Saxby’s is a corporate chain, and at a glance it looks just as corporate as Starbucks. But if you look deeper, you find a few important distinctions. For one, they do give a little bit more leeway to individual franchise owners to do what they want. And secondly, the company has gone a little further towards promoting sustainability, which I think is a really key point for me. And lastly, the prices are a little lower on some items. Where does Saxby’s excel? Although they sell only tea in tea bags… they sell good tea. Two Leaves and a Bud – – you can read & write reviews of their individual teas on that site that I created — is a good tea company that fills their bags with high-quality, whole-leaf tea. Definitely two steps up from what is served in most coffee shops. Where does Saxby’s lag behind? This is just my opinion and many will undoubtedly disagree with me, but I steer away from their Fro-latte’s at all costs. If you’re going to get caffeinated here, drink tea, or drink a regular coffee or espresso drink like a Café au Lait or a Latte. The syrupy-sweet drinks here just don’t do it for me. Oh, and I also don’t like their mocha – it seems to be made with a mix instead of unsweetened cocoa powder mixed manually with sugar(it REALLY makes a difference, at least to me – even if you just use cheap cocoa-powder like Hershey’s). From my experience, standalone Saxby’s tend to have very reliable wireless. This place does not – it’s in the train station which has abysmal wireless that you’re lucky to get on for 20 seconds here and 20 seconds there every few minutes. But that’s nothing about this place itself.

Coming into PA for work(instead of my normal NYC commute) I found myself wanting, no scratch that, NEEDING coffee. I’m used to all manner of coffee from water weak to ultra strong. Being inside a train station, I wasn’t expecting much from Saxby’s(a chain I confess I’ve never heard of until today) but i was really surprised. First off, the service was very chipper, fast and friendly, not a combination you generally see at a stand in a train station. Second — the coffee was REALLY good. I mean, deep scent, deep flavor and everything. I had ordered a french roast hoping for something akin to instant coffee but what I got was much better. Indeed, as I rode in my car on the way to the office, the smell of the coffee simply filled the vehicle and it was awesome. I have to come here for work now and then, and I’m glad I now know a great spot to get a good cup of joe.

I am drinking their double espresso right now. It is basically heated motor oil. Pastries are passable, but not worth going out of the way to buy.

The coffee is decent but pricey, and the horrible wifi(provided by Clear) makes it impossible to be productive.
