My fiancé and I headed here on a Friday evening since it was Lent and we needed a place that had some fish or vegetarian options. We had noticed Route 6 a few times on our ventures up North Broad before, but had never stopped in to dine there. Place was jam packed when we got there. Bar was full, which I am assuming was because of happy hour. Entire restaurant was full too, which I always take as a positive sign. We were seated a bit after our reservation time, but we got a great table for four even though there were only two of us and settled in. The place is enormous! I couldnt believe how big it was. I guess that is part of the draw of putting a restaurant up in that area instead of downtown. We decided pretty quickly what we wanted, some beers of course, and then the crab bombs, the lobster roll, and the shrimp scampi. The oyster crackers were a bit different than I have had at other places, but they were awesome. They had more crunch factor to them than the chewiness that other oyster crackers do, but it was a welcome change. I just wish they didnt skimp on the horseradish. I would have eaten a ton more of it if they hadnt. Overall we thought the food was a really solid effort. The crab bombs were very crispy and full of crab filling. They were enhanced by the delicious cocktail sauce they were served with. The lobster roll while it tasted good, was very small for the price, so I was pretty disappointed with it. The fries it was served with were great, crunchy and seasoned nicely. The best part was honestly the shrimp scampi. I wasnt really into the idea of ordering it, but my fiancé wanted it, so we did. The shrimp were huge, but still very tender. The sauce was packed with flavor. It was buttery and rich and garlicky. I wish i had a whole loaf of bread to sop it up with. We ordered sunchokes and asparagus with the shrimp scampi, both delightful sides to accompany the shrimp. Dessert course was the banana cake with hazelnut ice cream. Nothing too exciting with this dessert though. It was ok, but the cake was dry and there wasnt a ton of banana flavor to it. I loved the caramelized bananas served with it though. Awesome bits of texture and flavor. Our waiter forgot to bring me my espresso, and then promptly removed it from the bill when I pointed that out, but he brought me one over anyway. Classy move sir! All in all a really good place to grab some seafood, although a bit pricey. Its definitely worth a visit or a revisit for that matter.

My co workers and I came here for the lobster special one evening after work. I’ve only been here previously for drinks at the bar, so it was nice to soak in the whole Cape Cod experience of the spacious dining room! Upon entering the restaurant you are immediately invited into a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Adorn with cozy dimly lit tables. We saw in the room off the main area. it was nice and a great use of space of the former building. We got straight to the point and ordered the lobster. It was presented nicely and the server did a really great job keeping our glasses full and our crustean shell bowl clear. We were in for a quick meal and chatted the whole time so didn’t get to paid attention to my surroundings. I did like that it was quiet, although we were there right after work so it’s not the usual peak time for diners. I will be back to try out the raw bar!

So I came back to re-eval this venue. We sat at the peninsula at the oyster bar and it made the experience more fun as we watched them shuck oysters. Love the nautical décor of this place situated on broad st. For starters, please try the oyster and the fried lobster tail appetizer. It’s super yummy and ask what pairs well wine wise with oysters. The staff are knowledgeable about the food and wine. Super friendly service and energetic. Entrée wise my bf said the swordfish was boring but the Brussels sprouts and fried sunchokes were heavenly. I had the classic lobster roll naked w/fried and the only suggestion I have is the plating. Looks super weird having all the food on one side of the wooden plank. Desert was a must have! Try the bread pudding w banana ice cream and the coconut cream pie! Amazing !

Hat’s off to the owner Greg R for responding so quickly and professionally to my last review. That is how good management and a good business is run. I returned last night for my first time since my last review to give them a shot again after talking to Greg back in September. When management approaches me like this, I am always willing to give them another shot. B/c like I said, people can have off nights and I don’t want to write off a restaurant just like that. Service: 5 stars on POINT ! Our servers name was Nick, and he was super friendly and knowledgable about the menu. He asked us if we had any questions, ordered our drinks first and gave us enough time to look over the menu. Also after ordering our food, our appetizers came out in like. t minus 2 minutes! Also, there were plenty of times that Nick came over to see how the food turned out. A nice lady(maybe assistant manager or QA) stopped by to see how everything turned out. The food runners were also friendly and on point. Service was all over a million thumbs up last night. Super friendly, fast, efficient but also not overbearing at all! I didn’t feel like they were interrupting my conversations or anything.(I actually noticed in my peripheral vision that Nick saw we were in deep convo, and he walked away to check on us later — 5 stars for you!) FOOD: 4 stars $ 12 Crab deviled eggs: super awesome. They loadd these things up with amazingly fresh crab. I’m all over this one. The only thing that could make this better is if it was served on some sort of purée, that woudl be kind of cool ~ But totally personal pref $ 12 Calamari: the fact that this came out in 2 minutes was amazing. A little skeptical, but hey it came out freshly fried super crispy, and the texture of the calamari was perfect. My only complaint was that my first few bites it was SOSALTY. The rest of it wasn’t. so maybe it was just sprinkled a little too much on certain spots. $ 4.50 cup of Clam chowder — one of the better clam chowders I’ve had. It had PLENTY of clams, plenty plenty. Super creamy. $ 25 Scallops in romesco sauce with saffron rice and jumbo grilled asparagus. 4 stars ~ Scallops were 1000000% perfect. Perfectly cooked, like seriously PERFECT temperature. The romesco sauce was bomb. I wouldn’t change literally anything about those scallops. The saffron rice was A-OK, nothing too special. i would have liked the rice a little fluffier/soft. And the grilled asparagus was the right tenderness, but no seasoning :/but the fact it was grilled gave it that nice grill flavor which was appreciated I also tried some of my dining partner’s Swordfish. This was grilled very well, crispy bite on the outside and it wasn’t dry. And even if it was the least bit dry, that caper salsa made the dish. It gave color to the dish as well as pairing very beautifully with the swordfish. The whole bill came to $ 112 including 3 alcoholic beverages. Honestly, yes it is a little steep, but it’s seafood(and fresh at that!). But my experience last night — worth it. I’d be back for a special occasion!

We waited 30 minutes for our reservation because the restaurant was running behind. The fact that everyone in Philadelphia showed up when we did for their reservations, and packed the area around the hostess stand like the El at rush hour if the El was full of clean and well-dressed people, made the wait unbearable enough for me that I waited outside. Boyfriend waited inside on our behalf, and I guess he was nice to the hostess because she sat us right in front of the fireplace. Score: 1. Then we got complimentary crab deviled eggs. Score: 2. The hostess also came over later to personally apologize for the wait. Score: 10. Stuff happens, and in my book an apology makes it all better because it’s more than is ever expected(especially when it’s not really your fault) and, let’s be honest, 30 minutes really isn’t that big of a deal. Our server also thanked us for our patience and was very pleasant despite what was probably a frustrating night. So A+ on the service. On to the food. The crab deviled eggs are egg whites stuffed with crab meat. I expected something creamy so while they were good, I was a little disappointed. Boyfriend got a caesar salad and we split the peel and eat shrimp. Lots of flavor in both. He got the stuffed flounder for his main and I got the lobster roll. The lobster roll is TINY at first glance, because our American eyes are used to oversized, but I thought, «that is a good portion size,» and sure enough it filled me up. Dessert was not mindblowing(and not necessary, since we were so stuffed) but it wasn’t a disappointment either. Personally, I didn’t think the prices were too insane compared to other seafood restaurants in the city. I’ve been to places with higher prices and more mediocre quality, and I really think you’re getting what you pay for. I would come back.

Another Stephen Starr restaurant? Seriously?! This guy really just churns restaurants out like a factory. No complaints… well not too many for this one that is. Route 6 is a seafood restaurant that lends itself to the good old clam bakes of the east coast. So that means just means lobster, clams, and mussels are the golden nuggets for this restaurant. Sulk in the artery clogging delicousness of «healthy» drawn butter for whatever sea creature hits your fancy at Route 6. I’m a bit biased when I write this review because I went here during«Lobster Month» where the price was ½ off. With that being the case, I found myself enjoying everything that was lobster associated. So just saying that, there’s really little you can fuck up when it comes to steaming a lobster. Suffice to say, Route 6 is great for that month. Yet, when it comes to the full pricing and the over all quality I would give it a 3 stars but since I’m basing shit off the time I was there for«lobster month» then it deserves 4.

I couldn’t believe when Route 6 extended their half-price lobster month, but naturally I had to go back. This time I opted for the 1.5lb lobster, and was slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it was delicious, the butter perfectly melted as I expected, but the lobster had SO much water in it that my plate was covered in a half-inch as soon as I picked it up. It may have had something to do with me asking for it cleaned, but it would been nice if the kitchen had drained it just a little bit. We also tried the fish spread appetizer, which comes with amazing bagel thins. The spread was good, a tad fishy(which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised about) but the bagel chips really stole the show. Also, I got a ridiculously cheap lobster, so I can’t complain. I just heard that December is now«almost half-price» month, and lobster dishes are STILL discounted. When will the madness end? I figure it’s got to by January in time for restaurant week, so if you haven’t been to Route 6 yet… get there this month!

You know in college, where you pinched your pennies in hopes to afford a few extra beers. Lunch of burritos and dinner of… the leftovers from that same burrito. And then your parents come into town for the weekend and ask you where you wanna go to dinner and your eyes light up at the thought of spending a meal at a spot other than the dining hall or the late night pizza joint. If I went to undergrad in Philadelphia, Route 6 would’ve been the place I asked my parents to take me. The food is delicious, yet approachable as far as being appealing to your average eater. The prices, however, are a little steep. I know I’m not breaking any new ground with this statement, but the best way to put Route 6 is «It’s the restaurant I’d choose if someone else is footing the bill»(I hope my parents don’t read this review). I’ve been twice now, and enjoyed both experiences, only once cringing at the dollars I shelled out for food in shells. The first time, I was splitting a lot of small dishes with some buddies, but the second time was a full meal. We split the smoked jersey bluefish dip, not my first choice but an EXCELLENT addition to dinner. A light enough appetizer that I was still hungry for dinner, but much more flavorful and interesting than your typical«fried _____», and the house made bagel chips had us requesting extras before we’d gone through half the dip. Since it was Lobster Month, my buddy and I both went for lobster dishes. Lobster roll and fried lobster tails sounded clutch at the time. I’ll go ahead and say that the lobster tails, while fried to perfection(and served with a quality aioli) were a painfully small portion. Like… if we were paying full price for that, I would’ve complained(at least under my breath). We weren’t, but even at half-price, there was about 4 – 5 chicken nuggets worth of lobster meat on that plate. And you can’t eat the shell(trust me on this one). The lobster roll was delicious though, meaty and light and refreshing. I ordered an IPA and received… not an IPA(she said, the beer snob oozing out of her pores) but it wasn’t a bad beer, so I enjoyed it. While I’d probably go back for a happy hour or something, Route 6 is not somewhere I’m willing to fork over the money for on a regular basis.

Route 6 is a great spot on the edge of Fairmount for a quality happy hour. If you don’t believe me, just ask the crowds of people in the bar and lounge area every time I’ve been there. $ 4 craft beer drafts and inexpensive seafood small plates surely hit the spot during my visit last week. To drink my friend and I both ordered the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. Since it was late November, I feel I must take advantage of the good pumpkin brews while I still can. To eat, we both opted for a cup o’ chowder and split the house made chips. We just came from happy hour next store so weren’t starving, although if we were the calamari and bluefish dip certainly would have made the cut. The bar and lounge area was fairly crowded but we got enough attention from the bartender to have a pleasant experience. We were able to have a nice little sampling of some of Route 6’s offerings at reasonable price, while enjoying the cute nautical ambiance. Ahoy!

My friend and I spilt the New England Clam Bake for 2, which was 1 ½ lbs. of lobster, mussels, clams, sausage, potatoes and two ears of corn on the cob. Originally it was $ 55, but with this deal in November, it was $ 35. We explained our hunger level to our server Christina and she suggested a side along with our Clam Bake so that we had enough food. She was completely right and a great server. Everything tasted great and surprisingly the sausage went well with the food. I wouldn’t recommend this dish on a first date because it was messy. I’m coming back for the lobster roll. They should seriously have these deals all the time.

Lauded, and at times maligned(haters gonna hate), restaurateur Stephen Starr opened Route 6 in the latter half of 2011. Following in the steps of Marc Vetri’s Osteria and Alla Spina, Stephen Starr’s Cape Cod-themed restaurant adds to the boom of life north of Callowhill Street. The restaurant is named after the famed highway that runs through the coastal towns of the East Coast and offers a wide variety of seafood options to tempt you with traditional shoreline cuisine. The 150-seat restaurant even has picnic tables to add to a somewhat relaxed outdoor vibe. The inside is certainly trendy and pristine — boat shoes and navy blazers anyone? Stephen Starr is the master at getting his restaurants just right — even down the the minutest of details. Check out the candle holder — isn’t it reminiscent of a sandy beach with a half shell on top? Now with the lobster surplus what it is, October at Route 6 was Lobster Month! What does that entail? Half-off all lobster dishes! At such prices, it would have been a shame not to order almost everything that had lobster(we came back the following month to tackle a few 3 pounders). Cape Codder [$ 12] Stolichnaya Vodka, cranberry ginger compote To start though, the GF and I ordered a pair of cocktails. She had the Cape Codder, which was not overly tart and had a subtle sweetness from the cranberry, with the ginger providing the kick. Easy drinking here! Nor’ Easter [$ 10] Maker’s Mark, maple, lime, ginger beer I had the bourbon-based tipple. The maple provided a nice counterpart to the bourbon — a mellow sweetness that was balanced by the tartness of the lime and a bit of effervescence from the ginger beer. At this point, I was hoping for the oyster crackers and horseradish to show — essentially the ‘bread service’ at Route 6. No such luck on this night(perhaps they did away with it for Lobster Month). We were fine regardless, because it was on to the lobster parade! Chilled Half Lobster [$ 16 to $ 8] Green tabasco aioli We started with the chilled half lobster — essentially the GF’s first taste of lobster whole. Consider her converted and my bank account proportionally diminished! The sweetness of the lobster meat was apparent here. In fact, the green tabasco aioli was superfluous — yet also genius. So simple and delicious. Not gonna lie — the fact that we knew we had the ingredients to make the aioli at home made our night. Crispy Fried Little Lobster Tails [$ 22 to $ 11] I would say that the crispy fried lobster tails are a must order at Route 6(especially at these prices!). Three nicely sized tails are fried in a thick, yet crispy batter. The batter was seasoned nicely and I imagine the«famous» fried chicken at Route 6 is similarly fried. The tails were slightly overcooked but were still nicely succulent and sweet. The aioli made a reappearance and we had no problem dunking these tails in the liquid gold(move along Velveeta). Lobster Roll [$ 24 to $ 12] Fries We couldn’t leave Route 6 without trying their take on the lobster roll. This was a classic take on this oft-enjoyed dish. It seems small at first, but there is a ton of fresh lobster meat on the buttery bun. Not overly dressed in mayo and lightly sprinkled with herbs, this is how it should be done. The fries were seasoned in some Old Bay and were, for the most part, nicely crispy(there were a few stray limp ones here and there). New England Clam Bake for 2 [$ 55 to $ 27.50] 1 ½ lb lobster, steam clams, mussels, sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob The lobsters at Route 6 are prepared in two ways — classically steamed and wood-grilled. The latter imparts a sweetness from the cherry wood and some smoke as well. But I saved that for the following month. On this night, I went for the New England Clam Bake. Yes, it was for 2 and I ate it for one — go big or go home, right? The mussels were plump, the clams were succulent and briny, and the sausage was slightly spicy, offering a hefty counterpoint to these delicate bivalves. And the lobster — sweet, succulent — perfect to dunk in the drawn butter. The corn on the cob was a nice clam-bake-esque touch, though I didn’t particularly enjoy the potatoes — a bit too starchy and almost underdone for my taste. The hot towels and lemons(spritz/rub on your hands for you novices) at the end of the meal are a nice touch. A great way to do away with the inevitable mess on your fingers. Our server Christina was incredibly friendly and certainly informative — typical of Stephen Starr’s restaurants whether it’s El Vez, Butcher and Singer, or Continental Restaurant(of course, there are a million others). Still, when the prices are not half off — it seems a bit steep, even with the Starr upcharge. I can definitely see myself coming back here for the raw bar and perhaps to try the fried chicken, but the 3 pound lobster will likely have to wait until Lobster Month come by again.

Very happy I went to Route 6 during their half-priced lobster special — with the discount and the 20% off gift cards I get from my old employer, the dinner cost under $ 40 a person(and that was with a beer or two each). So as far as price goes, half price lobster can’t be beat. The service was good and the meal was enjoyable, but I find myself giving 3 stars because it wasn’t anything memorable. I’ll come back maybe, for happy hour, but I have no desire to rush back for a meal anytime soon. I’m not sure why either — again, the food wasn’t bad by any means but there was nothing that stood out as inventive or delicious. I do kind of want to add a fourth star, since I’m happy SS has built something so promising this far north. But I’ve been next door to Alla Spina, and that’s more along a 4 star place to me than Route 6. Bottom line: easy parking, decent food, great environment, typically stellar SS service. I’d try the spot next door first, but I have heard that Route 6 has an awesome happy hour. Certainly worth a try if you’re nearby. And the lobster special, which has been extended another month through November, is absolutely a deal to take advantage of!

Route 6 was okay, but there was nothing spectacular that blew my mind. Service was just okay – pretty standard, nothing special. The fried lobster tails were okay. The breading/seasoning was sort of bland. You get three tails and a great sauce. $ 22 full price… I would never pay that, but luckily it was half off month. Lobster rolls were good. Lightly tossed in Mayo. Nice lemony finish. However, the lobster was somewhat overcooked and chewy. Fries were sort of standard. Worth $ 12(because it was half off), but I wouldn’t go back to pay full price when I could just go to Luke’s Lobster which is amazinggg. The décor inside is reminscent of a beach house which is cute. Location is sort of strange, as there isn’t too much north of city hall. Good place to try while on promotion. November is semi-half off lobster month.

Mediocre at best. The prices were high for the quality of food. We paid $ 60 for a lobster pot that was less enticing than one we could get at Joe’s Crabshack for a fraction of the price. $ 22 for scallops which were the worst scallops I’ve ever had. I went to this place in May of 2013, and since ordering the scallops there, I have not ordered them ever again anywhere. All in all, if you’re looking for a yummy upscale seafood place with ambiance … skip Route 6. They nailed the ambiance, but completely missed the rest!

Came here for October Lobsterfest! 50% off all lobster entrees. It was quite a steal. We got there at 5 and apparently it also coincided with their happy hour! We were very happy campers. Here’s what we got: dollar oysters! very fresh, very delicious. clam chowder($ 3) — comfy and delicious. Nothing to write home about though. Not as many clams as I’m used to getting in SF. ½ chilled lobster($ 8) — delicious! No sauce needed. fried lobster tails($ 11) — comes with 3 halves(so 1.5 lobster tails), deep fried and carved for easy serving. The batter was seasoned well. And the tails were not greasy from the frying. beer on the tap($ 4) — unexpected Happy Hour rate is the best! Highly recommend!

I had been meaning to check out Route 6 for dinner ever since I attended that awesome Unilocal elite event a while back, and Lobster Month was just the excuse I needed to do so! For the month of October, all lobster dishes are half price. I started out with some clam chowder(tasty), then my bf and I split the fried lobster tails(if you come here you MUST get these). I then went for a whole grilled lobster(it IS lobster month afterall) and a slice of coconut custard pie. The pie was decadently rich and delicious. I ordered it meaning to have it all to myself but it’s really more of a sharing dessert. I had to admit defeat and reluctantly let my dining partner have some of it. Our server was super sweet and friendly and the food came out in a well timed manner. I love the ‘industrial loft meets quaint shore house’ décor. My one complaint: the hostesses. What is up with the surly hostesses? I noticed this first at the Unilocal event, then again last night. Even with the lobster discounts our bill was a bit steep. Be prepared to spend some money if you dine here, but I think it’s worth the splurge!

So, as I had well expected, all of our seafood sampling did result in more of a nice dinner-for-two kinda bill than a cheapo happy hour situation. I’d do it all again, though. On the second to last day of Summer we had a real good ol’ Summery time, snagging an outdoor picnic table out front for some seafood eatin’ happy hour. Between 4:30 and 6:30 there are some $ 1 oysters for you, people! There’s a minimum order of 3 at this price; shucker’s choice. Easy to down a couple dozen of those fresh, impeccably grit-free, medium sized oysters. Easy slurpin’. Slurpfest. There are plenty of other discounted options on the happy hour menu too– $ 3 will get you a little creamy cup of New England style clam chowder, or a decent sized basket of Old Bay flecked fries, or some light and crispy-on-the-outside and fluffy– on-the-inside hushpuppies, for instance. You can change those, «or,» parts to, «ands,» cause we tried em all. All were good for with the seafood afternoon snackin that was happening. Now here’s something: A person can become jaded about calamari. One might think, «Ho-hum…Calamari? Why I could get that any olé place.» Well listen, I’m here to tell you that the Point Judith calamari is some squid that’s worth your time. For 6 bones you get a basket full of small, super tender squid rings coated in the lightest, crispiest fried coating with a scattering of hot cherry peppers, fried in the same manner too. Lovely. Really: I wanna stress the softness of the squidly circles here. Tender vittles, I’m telling you. I couldn’t shut up about them. Maybe the repetitive declarations of, «You know, a person can become jaded about calamari…» to one and all had a little something to do with all the happy hour beers we were sampling. Route 6’s array of 6 crafty beers on tap are $ 4 a glass and $ 16 a pitcher.(Ehhh not so cheap, but not bad considering that beers at Route 6 typically run $ 5−7/ $ 18 – 26.) Specialty cocktails are $ 6 during the happiest hours– making them roughly half price then. I also tried one of them. Don’t mind if I doooo… «The Nor’easter,» was a mix of Makers, maple, lime, and ginger beer. Delicious. I loved it and plan on copycatting it at the abode. I have frequently noted the overall Summery-ness of our happy hours spent here, but I would gladly return any season of the year for more of the same– perhaps in the comfortable lounge area or at the bar. Nice place ya got here, dig the whitewashed wood and New England stylin. I have this place on one of my many mental lists; filed under, «Buck-a-Shuck,» cross-referenced with, «Special Occasion Seafood Happy Hour,» a subsection of, «Probably on a Payday.»

I got to try Route 6 for restaurant week. I chose it because the location was very close to somewhere that I had an appointment immediately prior to our dinner reservations, and because I was craving a lobster roll. Typically I find that Starr restaurants leave you feeling unsatisfied and like your wallet was just raped… but honestly, my experience here last night was perfect from start to finish. The restaurant itself is decorated very well. The outside and the inside are both appealing. The inside is also a little larger than I expected, but the layout is such that you don’t really feel like you’re in a cafeteria full of people. It feels smaller and more personal than it is. The bar area is super cute and the whole vibe of the place worked well for me. Upon entering we were excitedly greeted by two ladies who showed us to our table right away. We were given oyster crackers and horseradish. I ended up eating the horseradish right out of the dish. It was so fresh and delicious. We were promptly given water and our waitress, Dawn, came over to tell us all of the specials and how the restaurant menus work. She was quite upbeat and I really felt like I was in the twilight zone with how outgoing and accommodating everyone was. She took our drink orders(pictures of everything we ate and drank are here) and left us to decide our meal. We got the following things: Shrimp cocktail Blue crab stuffed deviled eggs Lobster roll Crabcake Chocolate bread pudding with banana ice cream Coconut cream pie Every single one of our dishes was so, SO good. The shrimp was gigantic and the cocktail sauce was so good I just wanted to drink it. The blue crab stuffed deviled eggs were surprisingly enjoyable to me. The lobster roll was just fiiiiilllleeeedddd with lobster and it wasn’t too mayonnaise-y or over done in terms of sauce and seasoning. The crab cake was honestly the best crab cake of my entire life. Normally I don’t like crab cakes(blame it on Memorial Day, 2009, where I got a little too intoxicated and ended up tasting my husband’s signature crab cakes more than once…). These crab cakes literally had no filler. It was exactly what the name says it is — a CRAB.CAKE. Pan seared, moist, and beyond anything I’ve ever had before. Lastly, both desserts were good, but the bread pudding was especially out of this world. The banana ice cream was to die for. As if the food wasn’t good enough, in between courses our table was wiped down, our glasses were refilled, and we were given fresh utensils. We were also checked on several times by Dawn and also one of the ladies that greeted us at the door. When we finished a course, the plates were taken away immediately. Overall I just can’t describe the level of excellence we experienced last night. The food, service, ambiance, … all of it was just superb. I am shocked and very pleased with our restaurant week choice!

Fellow Unilocal Eliter Ashley S. and I thoroughly enjoyed Route 6 for the Unilocal Elite Event an were determined to come back for happy hour with our men. We finally did it this week and it was great. The $ 24 pitcher of white sangria was fantastic. At $ 1 each, we got lots of raw oysters, one blue crab dip, 1 calamari, and 1 order of crab deviled eggs. The highlights were the deviled eggs and raw oysters(and of course the $ 6 special on ALL cocktails!). Our server, Matt, was awesome. Really attentive and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and out outdoor picnic tables are fun(but not very comfortable). I’d definitely recommend this spot for happy hour, and maybe we will even give dinner a shot sometime, too!

I’d like to start this review with the menu description of a dessert I ordered: «Chocolate Bread Pudding with Banana Ice Cream and Bourbon Caramel Sauce.» Again: Chocolate bread pudding. Banana ice cream. Bourbon caramel sauce. My boyfriend and I took one look at this on their website, gave each other a meaningful glance and said, «Let’s go.» Dessert tends to be an afterthought, even at some really nice restaurants. Creating inventive, delicious desserts requires a slightly different skill set than is required of the average executive chef. And bread pudding, if you’ve ever seen more than one episode of Chopped, is more often than not an uninspired cop-out of a dessert. But Route 6 surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds with their chocolate-bourbon-banana concoction: cold, fruity ice cream melting over piping-hot, custardy, decadent bread pudding, with a little kick from the bourbon. It’s incredible. Run, don’t walk. And while you’re there, do yourself a favor and order the fried Ipswich clam appetizer. They use WHOLEBELLY clams, not just those wimpy little clam strips, and the breading is well-seasoned but very light, so it enhances the sweet and briny flavor of the clams rather than hide it. The clams are so flavorful that you don’t even need the(perfectly good) tartar sauce it comes with! Seriously, the next time I go to Philly I am stuffing my cheeks with fried clams and then planting my face into that rich bread pudding.
