Stopped by Modena’s for the first time today. I was referred by a friend who has been going there forever. I got a manicure and blow out and was very impressed with the efficient and congenial staff. Their prices are very affordable and I will definitely stop by next time I’m in Philly!

I’ve been going to Modena going on 7 – 8 years now and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for them! So, nestled in South Philly between 11^th and 12^th street, on Oregon Ave, is my not-​so-​fancy but comfortable salon. I’m not 100% sure about this but I’m pretty sure that they are a part of the Violet Salon chains. I’ve been to a lot of expensive and amazing salons in my lifetime thus far, but I keep coming back to Modena because I love my stylist, Jill; she knows what I like and cuts my hair just right. I’m pretty particular about my cut; I have really thick, coarse hair and she knows how to cut it so that it lays nicely without over cutting and over layering my hair. It doesn’t hurt that their prices are so reasonable too! Times are tough and as much as I love a high end salon experience, I can’t bring myself to pay $ 150+ just for a haircut when I could get a cut, color, highlight and style for just as much, if not less! So yes, parking in south Philly stinks, Modena isn’t fancy and pretty and the staff doesn’t offer me water or wine, but I love it and I’ll keep coming back… at least until my stylist retires or all my hair falls out from old age… just saying.
