The fish was good quality. I ordered the Salmon Nagiri and Maki along with Yellowtail Tuna Maki. It was almost $ 20 and I received 12 total pieces of Maki(wrapped in seaweed) and 2 Nagiri. For $ 20 I thought the portion was a bit small, but not bad. Would have been great if there was 3 Nagiri and 14 Maki, but I get Sushi is expensive and it is about right at other smaller Sushi spots. I wasn’t overly impressed with the Yellowtail, but it was fine. The Salmon was great, tender and had the right amount of fat. The Soy sauce was good and went well with the Sushi. I absolutely recommend for people in the area. The dining area has a nice, low-lit vibe so I dont think I would mind dining in either even though I am usually a take-out guy.

Have been going to the Oxford Ave Makiman since we moved here in 2007. Our local go-to place for good, fresh sushi. Delivery is a definite plus! Sign out front has recently changed to Mr. Sushi.

Their sushi is all types of amaze balls and they have really good service. The staff are friendly. I don’t know what I was expecting but I had their«Ex-girlfriend» roll and it was great. I would definitely try it again.

No Delivery. I called for delivery. The person said they don’t deliver to my zipcode. Really zip 19111? Being two miles from a location I did not see the problem since their website said«delivery within 3 miles». I told the woman that I was within the website stated 3 miles but to no avail they refused to deliver. I won’t support a neighborhood business that don’t live up to their word. I will call Al-Sham restaurant their food is delicious and the employees are nice.

The sushi is kinda expensive and I do prefer Tokyo Mandarin better. I bought 5 cali rolls for 20 dollars here and about 11 dollars at Tokyo Mandarin. I do like the space inside although it does seem a little small. Nonetheless, the sushi was good.

Just okay. While my coworkers raved to me about this place a few days ago, I was not super impressed. I came in today and ordered take out for lunch. Since I wasn’t sure if I would like their version of chicken tempura rolls I only ordered one roll which was 5pcs. It was just okay. The chicken was a bit dry and I did not like the cucumbers/veggie mix they had within the roll, I do not like cucumbers. The portion was a bit small also for almost $ 9. It was nice they had parking however and the staff was kind. Pretty sure I won’t go back.

This will probably be my go-to sushi spot in Northeast Philly. It’s convenient, the food’s okay, and the fish seems pretty fresh. Of the two times I’ve been here, I noticed they have way more take-out orders than they do dine-ins. So even if you walk in and it looks empty, notice how the kitchen and sushi bar are constantly churning out to-go orders, meaning high turnover rate on the fish. //Food\\ The first time I tried this place, I didn’t expect much. I was pleasantly surprised that their menu has some interesting rolls, and they served fresh tasting fish. They give nice thick slices of sashimi, which is about $ 1-$ 1.50 more than the nigiri sushi, depending on the fish. The place is Korean-run, so they also have some Korean menu items, but I haven’t tried those. Also can’t comment on kitchen items since I only ordered sushi. The rolls are mostly just okay. Nothing amazing. They also need to give more consideration to mouth texture. Like the Raw Viking, it’s a big roll, so the texture is very noticeable. It’s spicy tuna and avocado inside with salmon and tobiko on the outside with nothing to give it body or crunch, so it just chews like a giant roll of mush. A few of their rolls had this texture problem. //Space\\ I noticed this place years before I ever tried it. I was always curious but never tried it because I just judged the food based on the outside. It’s on a small, unattractive lot with an inconspicuous exterior and next to a Wendy’s. So if you’ve seen this place on passing and thought the same, try going inside. It’s a nice surprise. You walk in, go up the steps, enter through another door and first see the sushi bar, then you turn right to the dining area and all of a sudden it’s this charming blond timber dining area with a window. It’s a totally different feel from the stark grimness of the outside lot. They could wipe off the soy sauce from some of the walls and switch some of the photos that came in the frames for actual photos/prints, but that would just be a bonus. Overall it’s small, but you still have the option of sitting at the bar or at a table. //Service\\ Service was okay. I think maybe we got a shy waitress. Overall, no one was overtly friendly, but they weren’t rude either. They did their job, made sure our orders were right. If you live in the Northeast, I definitely think you should give it a try, whether it’s takeout or dine-in.

Their Captain Crunch roll is always my go to. Lovely environment. for lunch especially. Great customer service. I always feel that the staff is attentive and ready if I have a request. I’ve also ordered take out before and it was delicious!

Best sushi in the area, the price is okay but for the taste, it is worth it. Very small restaurant, but cozy. The only downside about this is that the selections are smaller as well, they have a very small selected section for sashimi. The sashimi is pretty much typical like any other places.

Meh not the best sushi I’ve had but will suffice if you have been deprived and hungry. It could also be due to the location. Northeast Philly is not known for tasty sushi.

Overrated for 4 stars. Heard about this place on Instagram and it looked delicious. I got the bulgolgi bento box and the meat was not too good. I also had to get a sushi roll to try this place out and it wasn’t too good either. This place is okay but I wouldn’t come back. There weren’t many people there during lunch on a Saturday. The place is near Dunkin donuts And Wendy’s. There’s a parking lot in the rear and next to it but you have to park in the rear because the one next to it is for Wendy’s… 3 stars it is

If you know me, then you must be well aware that I love sushi joints. My friends and I took a random trip down to Philly for lunch since we were in the area and we stopped by Makiman mainly because Unilocal was saying that it was a decent place. We walk in and the place is kinda small. Sushi bar in the front of the place but then it opens up to a decent-sized dining room all decked out in traditional Japanese décor. It’s a pretty overall cozy vibe though. I get the Lunch Sushi Deluxe Special(I’m a poor college kid so anything that says«special» is gonna catch my eye) and it was pretty good! It was an assortment of California rolls with 8 pieces of nigiri. Some of the nigiri was pretty chewy, but apart from that it was actually really good! Very fresh, cut precisely, and slightly melt-in-your-mouth. Oh and the best part? It’s BYOB. Conveniently enough my friend was carrying a giant bottle of wine when we found and she promptly slammed it on the table demanding wine glasses.

I love this place! The menu has some awesome rolls I’ve never seen anywhere else. The sushi is quality. So far this is the only place on the area that I trust for good sushi. Pricey, as are most GOOD sushi places.

I am baffled by the 4 – 5 star reviews of this place. I came here with three other friends one night through someone’s recommendation. I(as well as one other friend) thought the food was just awful, but the two others enjoyed themselves. Those two ordered stuff like caterpillar and dragon roll, so maybe you’re better off if you order really basic(read: tempura) rolls. Pros: –BYOB –Cute interior –Very nice staff. I almost feel bad writing this review Cons: –Sketchy location –I ordered 6 piece sashimi. They gave me 5 piece nigiri. NOTTHESAME –Fish was chewy and definitely not fresh –Tried my friend’s sunomono because she left it untouched. For good reason. Don’t order it. 2 stars instead of 1 just because the staff was so darn nice, and it really is a cute place(aesthetically) to bring a date. But as for the food, I’d rather eat at the Wendy’s across the parking lot.

sooooooo im pretty much obsessed with Makiman. No sushi in the area comes close. From prices, to staff, to quality– this place is a hit. OH and it tops off at 5 stars because comparable places aren’t BYOB. Makiman IS! Ive had basically every roll on the menu and never get tired. too lazy to get off your butt and make it out to get delish sushi? yea, you can thank little baby jesus that Makiman is there to save your gluttonous salivating self– they DELIVER. and fast. favorites are the Captain crunch, raw Viking, kamikaze, and Katzu rolls. trust me… im the dutchess :)

I have been to Makiman in the Northeast about a half dozen times now since a friend of mine lives close by. I have always enjoyed my selections but never felt the need to rave about the place. After my last visit to Makiman on Tuesday; I am ready to give my positive review! A friend and I shared 5 rolls; — Tropical Roll(but we asked them to add fish, he added the rainbow roll fish on top) — delicious — the mango is a great sushi accompaniment! — Cap’N Crunch(probably my least favorite, just because I find the crab stick boring) — Katsu Roll — This is labeled as a deep fried roll, but it was not overly fried and it melted the cream cheese perfectly! — Ex-boyfriend Roll — We asked that the white tuna NOT be torched and I am glad we did! — Kamikazi Roll — This might be my favorite. The spicy sauce is just the right amount where I was still able to add some wasabi. The service at Makiman is always excellent and the waitstaff is very attentive. The BYOB aspect certainly allowed us to splurge a little extra on our rolls since we brought our own cheap bottle of red. I will surely be back again for another round of delish sushi with Christina V.
