This place is closed and for very good reason ! It was the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted.

Not bad, but definitely not good. All of the food we had was bland. The guacamole was fairly flavorless and watery in texture. I ordered a taco salad which had a small handful of iceberg lettuce, a little bit of sauteed veggies which included potato, carrot, zucchini and onion. There was a bit of guac and a tiny amount of sour cream. No tomatoes, salsa or anything else you might expect. The shell was good… If the food was better, I would say the prices were too. The staff was friendly, but it took longer than it should have to get our food. The place is kind of cute, but not very clean. They do the order at the counter, and someone brings it out to you. That was kind of nice as we weren’t just standing around waiting for our food. I don’t plan on going back, there are plenty of other places to get really good Mexican food.

I ducked into Lucky’s on a hot summer Sunday because their Smoothies sign sucked me in. The promise of «fresh fruit smoothies» sounded perfect. They have quite a lovely menu with yummy«Enhancers» like Aloha Island and Raspberry Blast… but unfortunately, they didn’t have any of the ingredients needed to make the delicious fresh fruit treats. My experience was stifled because they didn’t have any soy milk, which is a common ingredient in the Enhancers. They ultimately made me a blueberry and strawberry smoothie, which I believe had the ingredients: strawberries, blueberries, and ice. Frozen berries mixed with ice and nothing else do not taste good at all! I give Lucky’s 2 stars because the ambiance is great!

When walking by this place I thought it seemed to be an authentic mexican place-so I gave it a try. I got a burrito, they are about 6 – 7 dollars and grilled(which is nice) but, it wasn’t the best I’ve had, nearly. What really disappointed me was the guacamole. I absolutely love good guac and this was terrible, it was really watery and seemed like it came from a jar, ew.

I have been here 3 times and both times thought my food was pretty good. I have certainly had better Mexican food, but it’s inexpensive and reliable for the area. One of the times I ate there my credit card was charged twice. When I approached the owner about the mistake the next day, she refunded my money without question or even proof, which I thought was pretty nice. It has a tendency to be a bit hot in there, so it’s not so good for really warm days. The staff is pretty friendly. If you’re on South St. and looking for Mexican this is worth the stop.

Pretty pleasant space, nice staff, cute area in general, reasonable prices(an Indian restaurant across the street had $ 15 entrees– I have had so much amazing cheap Indian food in my life that that is just a travesty). I’m not a huge fan of real Mexican food(as opposed to, say, Tex-Mex) but the chorizo burrito was like $ 7, generously stuffed, and, as it happens, quite good. The mole that my enchiladas de mole(also $ 7) came swimming in was wayyyyy on the chocolatey side, which took some getting used to but evened out with some hot sauce. The enchiladas themselves were of a humble size and simply flour tortilla + chicken chunks. Left a little to be desired, but ’twas not bad, not bad. I wish my dish had been hotter though, because I dislike food that isn’t visibly steaming. Considering the multitude of interesting-looking restaurants within walking distance(not you, Pricey Indian Place) I probably won’t find myself back here anytime soon. But I have certainly have had worse Mexican food.

When I was in college, Lucky’s was just a food cart on the corner of 37th and Spruce. Now, they have their own storefront, which should tell you something about the food. I loved Lucky’s when it was in a cart, and I love it still. The reason? It hasn’t changed one bit. It’s a taqueria to the truest definition of the word — cheap, greasy, delicious Mexican in a no-thrills environment. Back in the day, a burrito was just $ 3.25 — now it’s about $ 5, which is still about half the price of Qdoba. The steak enchiladas are some of the best in the area(waaaaay better than the Mexican Post) and the taquitos are pretty banging too. The staff is super-nice(as everyone has noted) and totally makes the experience. As for the store itself… it’s in the basement of a South Street shop. The tables are always a little sticky, and the lighting is sub-par. But the food is so good, it really doesn’t matter.

Every bad opinion of Lucky’s is incorrect. Lucky’s is cheap. Lucky’s tacos are above par. Lucky’s has cost effective and above par burritos. Lucky’s is cheap. Lucky’s staff members have good customer service. Lucky’s serves Mexican coke(the bad kind, but good Coca Cola) Lucky’s is cheap. Lucky’s has awesome pictures of Aztec/Mayan gods carrying buxom ladies. Lucky’s has awesome smoothies. Lucky’s should require formal wear(jacket required) but chooses not to. Lucky’s is cheap.

I got take out from here twice. the first time just to check it out. I wanted to try one of their«smoothies». wow… by far the worst I have ever had. It was supposed to be strawberry but it tasted like watered down soda or something. The burrito was definitely bland, and the taco salad is tiny for the price they charge. I would recommend skipping this place and go to Los Jalapenos on South 4th instead.

The burrito was somewhat bland. I’m biased because I’m from Texas. But the staff there was awesome. I just got off work, no food in fridge, and I walked in at closing time. They were still very friendly. Great service. I’m willing to try one more time.

The staff at Lucky’s are really nice and serve up the goods real quick. I usually head over at lunch when I’m busy and don’t have time to make something for myself. At some point, if you are going to talk about Mexican cuisine and act like you know what you are talking about you are going to have do something other than order a burrito, quesadilla or taco. As for that sort-of tex-mex fare, Lucky’s is what you would expect from a taqueria. A little greasy and cheap. Not the best ingredients. That’s uh, you know, authentic. When you start to order things like their enchiladas and their moles things start to get a little more interesting. The enchiladas are pretty good. The sauce is not mild so be prepared. If you are like me expect to have your sinuses cleared and consider asking for some extra sour cream. Their pollo con mole is pretty good. A tad watery, but really tasty. If you want a classy, traditional Mexican meal, go down the street to Las Bugambilias. If you are looking for a decent taqueria that serves good food, quickly and with a smile then Lucky’s is exactly what you need.

First and last time I’ll be getting food from Lucky’s. I had it delivered by DiningIn and picked it from their list of Mexican restaurants. I figured it was the best pick of the list since I have a soft spot for any restaurant in the city that isn’t a chain. They are generally much better — no frozen food, better flavors — yadda yadda… BUTNOTLUCKY’S — blah Enchiladas Verde’s with sub-par pieces of chicken. It was like they were trying to mask the fact that they used the worst pieces of chicken with spice. Not to mention there was nothing else in them but chicken, not one slice of pepper or onion. Last time I checked enchiladas had more than 6 confetti sized pieces of cheese that resided only on top. Complete garbage. And the rice was definitely from a box. It gets two stars — because I didn’t die yet.

I had high hopes for this place. My burrito was average at best. I agree with Veronika p’s review. the most upsetting thing about Lucky’s is that they only deliver within a 10 block radius. I work 14 blocks from there and today they called me back after I placed my order to tell me that they would not deliver to me. That plus not so tasty food has me looking for another lunch time Burrito place.

My wife wrote a review for here as well and I am sure after our most recent experience that review will likely be updated. My wife introduced me to Lucky’s a few years ago and when we first started going it was very good. However over the past year the food and the serivce have steadily declined. Over the weekend we were doing work on our house and we figured Lucky’s would be a quick bite. We ordrered three burrittos and a chicken quesadilla. When I arrived to pick the food up the entire order was incorrect. While I am standing there the cashier and the cook begin bickering back and forth in Spanish about the order. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for the order to be corrected and was still charged $ 36 bucks. We got the food home only to find three soggy burrittos; that have grown smaller over the years, and an ice cold quesadilla. My wife and I felt pretty ill a few hours after eating the food and now we both question whether we will ever go back. Right now we are leaning towards not going back. The guy who owns Lucks’s owns Lavash as well. I keep thinking about sending him a letter with our complaints, maybe I will.

I really WANT to like Lucky’s, but unfortunately the one time I’ve eaten there was a let down. I think it may have boiled down to menu choice on my part, but then if one item is prepared poorly it doesn’t speak highly of the entire menu at large. I went on a Wednesday afternoon with my husband and a friend. As I’m trying to keep my calories down I ordered the chicken taco salad, which looked like a healthy option. Unfortunately it was both healthy and flavorless and seemed to be about 80% shredded lettuce. The chicken was just fine taste-wise but there was very little of it, and the only other ingredients are a tomato/onion mixture and some sour cream.(I asked to hold the guacamole.) I specifically asked for extra tomato and onion and if that was«extra» that I got then I can only deduce the regular portion is one tiny piece of each. The décor and service are really great here and I was expecting to be put off because I don’t really like these sort of rickety-chair order-at-the-bar places, but had the food been good, I would have really enjoyed myself. I’m going to give it another try because my dining partners seemed to really enjoy their food, but for the time being I would say that my experience at Lucky’s was rather UN-lucky.

I remember being one of the first customers at Lucky’s a few years back. There was only bare sheetrock on the walls, a few dangling lights, and a counter with a blender and small griddle behind it. On that day I ordered a platter for $ 7 and got enough food to feed a family for days. Seven dollars can still get you a lot at Lucky’s, although the environment has changed drastically. In the past few years they have upgraded a few times to compete with the changing style of South Street and have been able to fight off litigation with representatives from the market next door. The place is now sponsored by Coca Cola, which, in my opinion is just plain tacky, but they offer glass bottle of Coke that actually DON’T have high fructose corn syrup in them. Amazing! The food has remained pretty consistent in terms of portions and taste since their opening and many of the employees have also stayed on since then as well. My favorite Lucky’s meal so far has been the shrimp burrito with a side of chips and salsa and a real cane sugar coke. It will cost about $ 10.00, but compared to a lot of the other Mexican fares I have sampled in the neighborhood it is divine.

I don’t get this place. Since it has the word«authentic» in the title, plus has actual Mexican people preparing the food, I thought it was going to be amazing. Instead, I had a bag of frozen mixed vegetables(lima beans, green beans, carrots, and corn) in my burrito — mixed in with some weird kind of sauce. I’m all for incorporating different items into plain old boring food(like burritos) but come on. It was a freaking defrosted bag of vegetables, not grilled fresh veggies or anything. I can’t complain about the décor, I like kitchsy things. I really liked that there’s a counter to sit at so you can people watch on South Street. Basically, I wouldn’t come back here unless they did a complete overhaul of the menu.

Don’t know about the tacos(didn’t try ‘em) but good Lord those Steak Nachos were the best ever. Freshly made chips, lettuce, pico, guacamole and sour cream with some grilled steak — tasty. Note that I was there on a Saturday night, and while the stools and tablecloths did have the Coke bottle motif going on, I let that slide once I got the nachos. BTW, no fountain soda action here, but that’s half the charm — you have four standard refrigerated cabinets and the farthest one from the street has the non-standard cool stuff like Coke in the small old school glass bottles, unlike the new style plastic bottles. I’d definitely return — probably on a weekend.

I love me some Mexican and was not near La Lupe one day at lunch time. Lucky’s on South Street had sombreros on the wall and said they sold tacos. So I gave it a try. This place definitely needs some interior decorating help, but it’s good if you are planning on taking it to go. THe burritos and tacos are okay. They aren’t really authentic and nothing to go crazy over, but if you need a non-sandwich lunch, it’s a great option.
