It’s been a good minute since I’ve had Larry’ Steaks, I mean a GOOD minute. The last time I had Larry there wasn’t any flat screen TV’s hanging on the walls, the seating area was mediocre at best. The last time I was here is when«The Muddy Duck» was still around. A well known St. Joes dive bar at the time that used to be a staple for the university’s finest. What didn’t change was their cheesesteaks, all the other cosmetics is fine and dandy, but their sammy stayed true. Larry’s is a landmark in these parts that has been around for decades, and by the looks of it Larry is not going anywhere. Who is their nearest competition when it comes to a great steak? That’s right, nobody, not a single joint that I can think of that is even close in this area. Their cheesesteaks are simply bangin. Greasy as all hell, but still bangin! They do chop it up a little too much I believe, but it still works for them. Normally when a joint chops it up, it takes away that flavor where it is bland and they try to cover it up with globs of cheese. I haven’t had anything else off of their menu, because basically I know what works here and it is their cheesesteaks. I leave it up to you if you feel the need to venture off into something new. Go in and order yourself an American wit, with hot peppers.(if you want to add some heat to it) I think you’ll be satisfied, along with your belly being full.

Since Kobe made it a priority to stop by Larry’s Steaks when he was in town, it was time for me to check out the deliciousness that is located in my neck of the woods. I went to Larry’s with the intention of getting French fries, but I ended up leaving with one whiz with and a side of fries. The cheesesteak turned into the main event. I asked for my food to go because I had gotten out of work wicked late and just wanted to get back to my place to relax. I hesitated ordering to go because I wasn’t sure how the cheesesteak would last between when I was given my food to go and when I got home. Luckily I don’t live wicked far so the cheesesteak was still in pretty good shape by the time I got home. Of course the roll was a little soggy, but that was expected. This cheesesteak was delicious! I was in cheesesteak heaven. My boyfriend tried it and said he didn’t think it was any better than any of the other ones we’ve tried so far and that may be, but between being wicked hungry and not having high expectations, this cheesesteak rocked My side of fries was also good, although I wish they had some other options for flavored of fries, for example seasoning fries with Old Bay. Larry’s has a full menu so I’ll have to go back to try more options. I’m psyched to know that I have a good cheesesteak place near me. I got lucky with street parking last night so I imagine it’s busier near there during the day and difficult to get parking. My only critique of the cheesesteak is that I wish the whiz was hotter because it tastes better when it’s warmer and melts nicer on the steak. They put a lot of whiz on, which I’m all about, but it wasn’t that warm so it was thick. The flavor changes depending on the temperature of the whiz so I wish it was warmer before they put it on, but it was still very tasty.

It’s a decent cheesesteak, but not a fav. This is also Kobe Bryant’s favorite spot. Try it, you might like better than I.

Well it’s wasn’t bad. I ordered a Philly cheese steak. The bun was soft and crispy at the same time which was nice. The meat was seasoned ok but slightly overcooked which dried it out a tad. But the worse offense for me was the cheese. When I asked if they forgot the cheese the woman said it was there at the bottom. Really, do I need a magnifier to find it? Cuz it was barely discernable. I think the cheese in a philly CHEESE steak should be pretty evident. Just saying, it’s sort of a simple recipe: meat cheese bread. Anywho, the fries were tasty, atmosphere was nice and the bathrooms were very clean.

Visited Larry’s steaks after visiting St. Joe’s as it was really close to campus and easy to get to in comparison to the other two well known establishments. Prices are reasonable. They have chicken and beef cheesesteaks with a variety of toppings to add to them. The toppings for the cheesesteaks are extra money. There are a couple of cheese options and I went with a beef cheesesteak with provolone while the s.o.went with a chicken cheesesteak with provolone. The sub was pretty good. The beef was a little bit dry, I felt like the other two establishments, pats or genos, are better. They have free pickles, cherry peppers, and condiments. This place looks like it gets busy with the college nearby, I feel I would go back for a cheesesteak if I was in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to travel here.

Great food, a must every time I come home to Philly to visit. Even though I only frequent a few times a year, the guys on the grill always remember my face. Happy they fill my need when I come home.

A west philly staple that has been around since the ‘50s and I have been going to my entire life. Awesome cheesesteaks, chicken cheesesteaks, and hoagies. Right up there with the best in the city, if not the best. Don’t bother with anything else on the menu. It seems a lot of the bad reviews are for their pizza. Who orders pizza at Larry’s? Must be college kids who don’t know any better. Stick to what Larry’s does best, cheesesteaks and hoagies!

Can’t even count, or remember, how many times I frequented Larry’s during my four years at St. Joe’s. Always a great last resort at 3 am when nothing else is open. Great mozz sticks, onion rings, and fries but the steaks are just meh. Great when you’re hammered but not so much sober. Meat is usually a tad stringy and overcooked and the whiz is nacho cheese, not whiz. Definitely better steak options in the immediate area but again, they’re the only place open late in walking distance of the house parties here. However, I give Larry’s four stars instead of three because of the employees. Nicest guys, and girls, you’ll ever meet and they really know how to deal with the crowds of drunk, spoiled, college assholes at 2 on a saturday morning. Hungry after throwing up on the Rugby house’s basement steps? Stumble on over to Larry’s.

I moved out of Philly seven years ago. Even before I come see my mother, I grab a chicken cheese steak and cheese fries from here. I take my calorie counting and diet extremely serious. I break my diet and skip my gains for a taste of heaven! You must give it a try. They could improve the seating area some. The hygiene is not the best but I am here to rate food. I am from Philly and there are much worst places. Similar to a McDonalds and we all have eaten at one. I cannot rate any of the other food. I only get this. I am a creature of habit! The staff is like family at this point!

writing an update about something that has bothered me about larry’s steaks for years and it really really annoyed me today when i stopped in. for some reason they absolutely refuse to prepare all of your food at the same time when your order includes fries. for the life of me i do not understand the logic behind this. so today i went in and ordered a chicken cheesesteak and an order of fries. so im sta ding there at the counter watching as several other sandwiches were being wrapped up and then placed over at the fry station but no fries were cooking; the fryers were empty. meanwhile, all of the sandwiches get soggy. way to go, larry’s!

They have the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had in my entire life. Especially with cheese, ketchup, and fried onions.

As surprising as it is, this was my first time at Larry’s. I’m a St Joes alum and this place is pretty much on campus. I really was craving wings so I ordered 3 fried wings and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The lady at the counter seemed rather miserable but wasn’t impolite. She just didn’t seem to want to be there which is understandable I guess. We dined in and the place was rather clean which was nice. I enjoyed the pizza it was a nice portion for the price and tasty. The wings however were ATROCIOUS! They were fried so hard you couldn’t separate the skin from the wing if you wanted to. They were about a minute from charcoal. I’d think I give them another shot, just NEVER order the wings. I guess that’s what I get ordering wings from a place that specializes in steaks. Until next time

So… When you are looking for a NY style pizza… this is not it. Too much bread. Delivery took as long as they said. Where can I order a late night true NY style pizza in Fairmount? Sad.

My friend ordered chicken fingers, and they were completely raw inside, not just a little pink, absolutely raw. We went back and they refunded her but gave no apologies. They didn’t even look at it. This is a major health Risk and not okay. They showed no signs of caring at all. Also my cheesesteak was bland and had barely any cheese.

Well, Well, Well… this sub was delish!!! I mean it was what I have been looking for in a sub from Philly. I have been so disappointed at Gino’s and the steak place across the street from them, I had given up on a GOOD Philly cheesesteak… seriously. I remember being in college and my college roommate would bring me the best subs back from Philly and I never got that taste again… until that is I went to Larry’s. We are definitely going back again, and again, and again, and again, and again… I think you get the picture. If you are ever in the area… go to Larry’s. I mean, I can’t tell you what to do but, I know what I am going to do when I go back to Philly. I’m Just sayin’

Love this place, got hooked in college. Was very glad to see they’re doing well(the place was a little spruced up since I’ve graduated). Went there recently after a concert to close out the night and the food was still delicious and hit the late night spot. They make great cheesesteaks, cheese fries and decent pizza. My favorite is their buffalo chicken cheesesteak, so yummy!
