Came for some after dinner drinks. You can’t go wrong with the beer selection here! The bartender was efficient, but not the friendliest. However, this place gets super busy on a Friday night and we never had to wait long for our drinks, so all-in-all, it was a win. The food is good, but I’m pretty sure I witnessed a burger that was sent back and then given to another patron… not cool. Definitely come for drinks though.

You might not be able to tell from the outside or the inside of this joint, but it serves up some mean pub grub and awesome brews. The food is mostly Louisiana-inspired, and I had a delicious muffuletta while my cousin had the best hot chicken and waffles he’s ever had. We downed some delicious British beers since it was UK night during Philly Beer Week.

The barbecue pork and sweet potato fries are crazy tasty. And the absinthe got me buzzed on my first glass.

Ugh Khyber. So yummy, great options for vegetarians/vegans, & the beer list is always on point. Can you guys just make sure you don’t have rats scampering across the dining room floors? Haven’t been back since.

Vegan buttered popcorn really caught my eye and my taste buds. I also tried the Smoked Salmon deviled eggs before and it was amazing. A friend of mine purchased catfish and fries and they where amazing. Fried to perfection. This place is perfect for putting hot sauce on your food.

My favorite place in the world. Their beer menu and bbq pork are out of this world. I have yet to find Wells Bombardier anywhere else in this world and it disappoints me to this day. Oh and the popcorn! A necessity whenever I am in Philly. Bacon grease popcorn is a must have for anyone who visits.

A small, dark little enclave in Old City, with a comforting, casual vibe and very tasty food that transcends beyond your average«pub» food, Khyber Pass is a place I was very happy to walk into eventually and try out. We got the BBQ brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese and the North Carolina pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. The brisket was my favorite — the meat was marinated really well and with the toasted, warm bread, it was over very quickly. The coleslaw on the pulled pork sandwich was perfect — not overly dressed and with a distinct crunch. The Mac and cheese was heavenly! The beer list is extensive and so is their selection of po boys! There are several things I want to try on their menu from the gumbo to the shrimp po boy to even their nachos. The service was friendly and it was overall a very good experience. I’ll certainly be going back!

Great selection of libations and delicious food. Don’t shy away from the bacon grease popcorn. You’ll end up grabbing handfuls out of the brown paper bag they come served in. Order the three meat sampler. We had the pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. The meats were tender and tasty especially with the three BBQ sauces for dipping. The sides of mac and cheese, french fries, and onion rings were plenty for two people to share but I would probably pass on the onion rings. The batter was a little too light and not very crisp. The crawfish étouffée was also good. It had just the right amount of Cajun spices. I recommend the smaller portion size as the large seemed to be served with more buttery rice then étouffée. If you don’t mind a loud atmosphere this gastropub is a must try.

Great craft beer selection, and surprisingly good bar food, with many Cajun and vegan twists. I was in town for three days. I stopped in here all three days. I know I tried more than one beer, but all that I’ll remember is the Yards ESB in the cask. The bartenders we’re professional, and chatty when they had the time. The patrons were a welcoming group of regulars and tourists. When I make it back to Philly, I’ll be sure to stop by.

The decades of punk history are still here if you know where to look. They’re hanging out deep in the grain of the beer soaked floors and the former«worst bathrooms in Philadelphia»(which my date still discouraged me from using last night). Will you still feel like you are in a legendary Philadelphia punk venue? No, not so much… Its okay, time marches on, we all get older, and sometimes after a long day at our office jobs, some old ass punks just want to tear off that cardigan, throw on a jean jacket, and chow down on a vegan pulled pork sandwich before heading to an free art show to grumble about old times with other 40 year old Philly punks. If that’s where you’re at, the Khyber(Pass Pub) has got you covered. The menu is centered around Cajun comfort food and pub grub. I was pleasantly surprised to see many vegan options, including a vegan fried chicken po’boy, Cajun popcorn(as a nice alternative to the highly popular bacon grease popcorn), and chili. I opted for the one thing I knew I was too lazy to make for myself-The Vegan BBQ pork sandwich. It was a very good choice. The tangy NC style BBQ sauce was vinegary and delicious, and the texture of the«pulled pork» seitan seemed to be right on the money(But don’t ask me, I haven’t had any meat since 1983!) It was on a grilled bun topped with super tasty vegan coleslaw, not too runny and not too tart. It did what it was supposed to, and was a great compliment to the sandwich. This was a winner, and I’ll definitely be back for it. Disclaimer-I’m not vegan, so this next part may bore you if you are. All sandwiches come with the choice of 1 side-Though there were plenty of vegan sides, I opted for the mac & cheese on the recommendation of a friend. GOODMOVE, Thanks, Friend! It was great. rich and warm with a golden brown panko topped crust. MMMMMMMMM(protip– they bring you a bucket of condiments-shake a little Crystal hot sauce on it to break up the richness!) We were easily seated around 6:00, and sat right by the window, where the grimy stage once stood. The Dead Milkmen didn’t play, but the food was really good, and the service was above average, especially for a dive bar. We took note of the music selection a few times, it felt just right. It was evident that times are changing. Average looking families and dull couples on dates sat around us eating burgers. Despite all this, I found it profoundly comforting that while exiting we passed by a fellow old punk behind the bar. He stopped us to remind us that Double Decker Records 20th anniversary is coming up soon… so I maybe punk’s not entirely dead at the Khyber, if you just know where to look.

One of my favorite places in Old City to enjoy some beers. We stopped in yesterday for a couple beers and snacks while making our rounds in the area. I had a delicious sour beer which I really enjoyed. We had the wings sampler which includes 3 types of wings, and they were all really tasty. Also, the bacon grease popcorn was delightful! We were there around 7 or so, and it was packed– we were lucky to get seated right away. I would definitely go back to Khyber Pass for the beer selection, and to try some other items on the menu. Our server was very nice and attentive– she refilled our waters frequently and checked in on us just the right amount.

awesome bbq, great service and huge selection of beers on tap and by the bottle. The entire family enjoyed this place, as you can relax in a casual environment and enjoy great bbw. The khyber bacon burger is awesome, delicious hunk of meat, great ratio of fat to beef and the sampler platter of bbq ribs and is huge, good enough to be shared among 2 to 3 ppl. At our table of 5ppl, we had a vegetarian, so to our surprise they even have a vegetarian bbq sandwhich which apparently was a hot, who knew, bbq could be found at this pub? Attention all carnivores, bring your best hunger order the sampler platter and hope you can take it all, otherwise you have left overs to take home.

The bar was recommended to us by a local business– it was dubbed one of the best bars in America at one time! Came here on my girl’s birthday around 3 o’clock in the afternoon– the ambiance inside was very dark and relaxed. The pub had a great selection of of both local and foreign selections and the service was pretty good. We did not try the food. Pleasant experience, I would come back.

We thought about going closer to home after watching a great movie but decided to hit the Khyber Pass instead. THATWAS A BADMOVE!!! While eating lunch we saw a freaking MOUSE run across the floor back and fourth at least 3 times! This is while we are eating! What the freak is going on there? The gumbo had pieces of inedible chicken. The fried chicken in the Po Boy was as thin as a sheet of paper. The bourbon old fashioned was good — the lemonade-bourbon drink my lady had sucked. They comped the drinks BUTNOTTHEFOOD when we mentioned the mice. She didn’t seem very freaked out. On the way out I stopped to hit the bathroom in the bar ANDMYLADYSAWANOTHERMOUSEWALKUNDERTHEBARANDCOMEBACK. Calling the Board of Health tomorrow. Now I know how those people on the Main Line felt about the cockroaches. DISGUSTING!!! ABSOLUTELYDISGUSTING!!! NOTE– the owner wrote immediately after this was posted to state they are fixing the problem caused by construction in the building next door.

Brunch Review coming up! —— One of my favorite spots to grab food in Old City is Khyber Pass. They’ve got a mix of BBQ and Southern-inspired dishes on the menu. So in effect, perfect foods to pair with their curated beer list. One thing I didn’t realize though. They offer bunch everyday! So while walking through Old City Festival and being fairly disappointed in the food-related offerings, the GF’s family and I decided to pop into Khyber Pass for some brunch-time fare. Founders Oatmeal Stout [$ 6] I went with the nitro Founders Oatmeal Stout. Creamy with great notes of chocolate and coffee, this was easily quaffable. Large Nachos [$ 11] Jack cheese, green tomato salsa, sour cream The large nachos were plentiful indeed, with an abundance of cheese, sour cream, and green tomato salsa interspersed throughout. Mac n Cheese [$ 5] The mac is always a must order. Buttery and cheesy with a wonderfully crisp upper crust, this is the mac that brunch dreams of. Praline Bacon [$ 5] Another must order? The praline bacon. I don’t know how I’ve missed this goodie. Crisp, candied bacon doesn’t better than this. Nutty, crunchy, sweet, salty, and savory, it’s the perfect food. Big Ass Biscuit & Sausage Gravy [$ 8] I’m always drawn to Khyber Pass’s «big ass biscuit.» So for brunch, I got mine dumped with a whole bunch of sausage gravy on top. Buttery and creamy, this mélange of savory flavors hit the spot. So if you’re in Old City, don’t hesitate to pop on in to Khyber Pass. They’ve even got you covered for brunch!

The last time I was in the neighborhood my internet connection was not cooperating and I ended up at the pizza joint a few spot over. How unfortunate! The entrance and bar are nothing special and maybe a little off putting, but when you enter the microscopic dining area it is a whole new ball park. The soft lighting, hung lights, and beer list on a wood board make the dining room an inviting space. The beer list is plentiful and unique. I also liked the very detailed description next to each beer on the beer list, it helped me pick beers that I would not have otherwise tried. The food was really amazing and one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. I went with the pulled pork and two sides — baked mac n cheese and cheddar fries. Simply what comfort food should be. My fiancé went with the oyster and shrimp? Po boy and it was just fine until he tried the battered oysters inside which he thought were slimey and therefore couldn’t finish it. Next time I’m in old city I’ll make a point to stop by again.

Dining Partner and I came to Khyber on a Friday around 7pm. I was here once before for breakfast and really enjoyed the food. They don’t take reservations so we were grateful to be seated when we arrived. By the time we got our food, most of the tables were occupied. The menu noted that the fried chicken could take up to 20 minutes. I figured it was going to be good and would be worth the wait. Good news, it arrived to the table in much less than 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it was just OK. The skin was crispy, but it was lacking serious flavor. I had a double dose of potatoes as my side, mashed potatoes and fries. Dining Partner had a meat sample, brisket and ribs with a side of mac and cheese and onion rings. We were both generally satisfied by our meals, but no foodgasms were had. Heads up, I also ordered a diet coke, what I was served wasn’t even close to coke. Had I known it was off-brand I would have stuck with water. I will come back in the future, but I’ll stick to the cajun cuisine they do best.

My first go round was vegan with the pulled pork. It was delicious, no complaints, and satisfied my belly. The second time around was for ribs! It was juicy and flavorful. They give you 4 pieces of ribs and 2 choices of sides. The portion size was more than i could devour. I’m a sauce girl so i loved the different types of dipping sauce that they brought out for the meat. The grilled chicken wings appetizer was decent but nothing special. My fave side is the out of this world baked mac and cheese which stayed warm throughout our meal. Oh and can’t forget about the bacon cooked in bacon grease, bad for you but finger licking good. This is such a solid place to get your bbq fix. I love that its vegan friendly as well.

Don’t judge this bar by its looks! It has a cozy neighborhood feel(not divey, very cozy). They always have great beer selections(rotates and changes). Happy Hour M-F 4−6p: $ 2 off drafts, $ 1.50 domestic bottles, $ 1 off all other drinks. Food: Oh wow. I returned from a business trip to Louisiana and the food at Khyber brought back good memories. The fried chicken, meats, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Oh yum. The big ass biscuit and sausage gravy, bananas foster … I’m only allowed to come here after a long run!(Which I did. It was hot … and wicked humid) Eh: a touch dark at the bar area, even on the brightest of days. Great to avoid the summer scorch, but hard to read the very detailed beer list at times. No bad beers here — point and choose works as a last resort! :)
