Upon entering the spices swirled throughout the store and my tongue begged for a taste. Roz kindly offered me a chocolate chip mandel bread which I immediately tried. Each bite followed with an ummmm, it was so good. The pumpkin loaf was good too. Sanjeev Shane.

I can’t say enough good things about this bakery! Kristin is the best baker and creates amazing vegan cupcakes, cookies and challah. She put together a holiday party tray for me and I couldn’t be happier. Everything was freshly made that morning and beautifully decorated.

I ordered an engagement cake around eleven and they had it ready by three. I walked in to pick it up and they are like mazel mazel! I just love this place and this the cake was delicious! I even followed their tip and froze the leftovers. It was just as good thawed the next day!

My story with Homemade Goodies is one of many emotions, with both good news and bad news(only for me!)! My mom asked me to find a flourless chocolate cake for my brother’s engagement party, since my family is full of gluten-free folk. I called a lot of my regular bakeries, Isgro’s, etc. to see if they made them. No-one did, which I thought was strange. Anyway, I ran a search on Unilocal and Roz popped up. I called her and she was so excited and happy to make me this cake — one of their specialties(I later learned) that is usually only made for Passover. So, I left work early on a Friday to pick up the cake before they closed. It smelled bangin’ and I was excited to bring it home for my family. I even bought some fresh raspberries at Greensgrow to top it with while I was on my way! The sun was shining, birds were chirping, the stereo was blaring… all the makings for a great day. Until I got to the party, and realized I left the cake back in my fridge in Philly. I cried a little, and bought some Gluten Free cupcakes from Whole Foods for the party. However, my boyfriend and I have been eating the hell out of that cake all week — in tiny, decadent, rich and delicious slices. Topped with fresh berries. Topped with powdered sugar. Plain. Warm. Cold. In a house. With a mouse. This cake, is the freakin’ bees knees guys. I’m giving Roz and co. 5 stars because(1) they specially made me a cake(2) they genuinely want to know your opinion about their goodies and make you feel like a valued customer(3) they are warm, friendly, and inviting(4) the shop is adorable, colorful and filled with kitschy knick knacks and furniture and(5) the treats are delicious. I will be back, and I will recommend it to others, for sure.

A kosher bakery! My future in-laws would be so proud(except they don’t keep kosher so…). I stopped into this adorable little bakery right north of South Street on a hot and humid day. The moment I stepped inside I was consumed by the smell of baking, and boy was it delicious. It was quite hot inside, so only the lone staffer was there. The interior is decorated in a way that, at least for me, screams grandmother’s sitting room, where I would have tea and a plate of cookies while chatting with my grandmother. It’s very cute and homey. It was too hot to eat there, so I brought my two treats home with me to enjoy within an air conditioned environment: Chocolate chip cookie: yummy classic chocolate chip cookie, I would have to describe it as the homemade version of Toll House, crunchy, chewy, buttery brown sugar dough, semisweet chocolate chunks, a crowd pleaser Carrot cake cupcake: I went with her recommendation on cupcake flavor, and it was a good choice. The cupcake was moist, crumbly, and had a spiced carrot flavor, delicious, but at least for me the icing was too sweet, very dense, and I couldn’t quite get a cream cheese flavor because SWEET overpowered everything else, but together with the cupcake the amount of frosting is enough just to sweeten the cupcake. Its a very, very classic recipe, I just wish I could taste the cream cheese flavor more! I will have to come back to try a few more items — and especially to get some challah!

First time I was not impressed. Got a very stale cupcake for $ 2.50 but felt too bad to approach the woman who served me and complain about it. Next time I went I asked what was the freshest item. The server recommended the peach muffin. It was delicious and I don’t normally even like muffins. I’ve tried the mini cupcakes at birthday parties and they are good. Would definitely recommend the chocolate over the vanilla. Just overpriced for what you are getting.

My friend & I stumbled on this place on a recent trip to Philly. It looked cute from the outside and when my friend noticed the Kosher sign, decided we should see if they had anything vegan. To our luck, they did! They had vegan thumbprint cookies(in both raspberry and prune) and mexican wedding cookies. The woman behind the counter, Roz, was so sweet and friendly. She told us they do make other vegan pastries and also make vegan challah. She was so nice! and the thumbprint cookies were only 50 cents each! I had 2 of each but about 5 minutes after we left, wished I had gotten more. My friend who didn’t eat her thumbprint cookie til after we left, said if she knew it was going to be that good she would have gotten a lot more. We went back about 20 minutes later to sadly find they had closed. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Philly though! :)

Homemade Goodies is a small, cute kosher bakery with a few vegan options(which is why I stopped by). The day I came they had two types of cupcakes, some type of cookie and one other thing. None of the stuff looked appealing, quite frankly. Why couldn’t they have a simple, tollhouse-style chocolate chip cookie? How about some cheesecake? Maybe a chocolate-nut thing? I got the chocolate cupcake(~$ 3). It was okay, but nothing great. It was just a shade dry and the frosting didn’t have any sweetness to it(in fact, it was covered in salt crystals); it tasted bland, really. If Homemade Goodies offered more vegan options, and also had some loose-leaf teas(all they have is generic boxed tea you can get at any grocery store) it might be worth a visit. All that said, I’d much rather go to Sweet Freedom Bakery instead. It’s all vegan and much more innovative and tasty.

I can not say enough good things about Roz and her generosity. She provided Kosher Catering for an event we held at «The Expressive Hand»(a paint your own pttery place) and the food was simple and delicious. Perfect for our group of 20-ish. The cupcakes had a delicious icing — hard to believe they were dairy free! I did not find the cupcakes to be «dry» or «lacking flavor» — I had the chocolate with chocolate icing and it was very good. There was also a gogeous crudite tray with several types of hummus. YUM! Thanks, Roz. We love working with you.

What a great find! Having decided to scrap my plans of making cupcakes from scratch on the eve of a coworker’s bday(laziness got the best of me), I was desperately looking for a bakery that was opened early in the morning. I was surprised to find that most gourmet cupcake shops don’t open until noon. How could this be? Homemade Goodies saved the day! Although I admit their hours(when they close) are not typical, being opened at 7:30am on most workdays was great! The cupcakes were delicious too! My favorites were the red velvet, mint chocolate chip and vanilla. Mmmm.

So yeah, I have a problem. Every time I come here, expecting to get 2 or maybe 3 cupcakes, I walk out with a dozen. Ginger with peppermint swirl icing. Cookies & Cream. Chocolate chip brownie with chocolate icing. And those are just the new flavors I found out about(and bought) today. The kids toy furniture is a great touch, too. It makes the place feel like an Easy Bake Oven grew up and got somewhat serious. Oh, and you’d be hard pressed to find a friendlier staff(maybe mine, but I’m biased).

Went here with two friends and loved it. The décor is fifties retro and almost as sweet as their cupcakes. The stand for the cream and sugar is a bona fide antique oven/stove with a Rosie the Riveter kitchen towel hanging on the oven door handle; yeah, it’s that cute. Between the three of us we ordered a chocolate mocha cupcake, a chocolate chocolate cupcake, a chocolate raspberry(strawberry?) cupcake and a mini challah loaf. The cupcakes were AWESOME, although the chocolate chocolate one I thought far outstripped the other two. I am a huge fan of challah, but found myself a little underwhelmed. A bit too dry for me. As a final note, prepare for a little Zionist propaganda when you walk in — donation pots and posters implore your sympathy for Israel, so my Middle Eastern pals and I didn’t feel exactly 100% comfortable. Staff are very friendly, and I am definitely looking forward to the opportunity to go back and sample the rest of Roz’s sweets!

I love this place! I’ve ordered hamentaschen(the triangle cookies with fruit in the middle) from here for 2 years in a row for a Purim party my organization throws, and they are always a hit. Perfectly moist and tasty, and reasonably priced. Their challah is also really delicious. If I don’t have time to make my own, this is the place to go. The best thing about this bakery(besides the tasty goodies) is the setting. It’s like walking into your grandma’s kitchen. Roz has a bunch of tables and chairs that all could have come from my grandma’s house. I sat there for a few hours today working on my laptop, and was struck by all the different kinds of people who come in to the bakery. They don’t have wi-fi, so it’s not a perfect workspace, but for those times that the internet is just a distraction it really is an ideal place to work. They’ve got yummy coffee. It’s kosher/parve(no dairy) for those who care about such things– but if you don’t, don’t let the non-dairyness scare you… you won’t even notice it’s not there!

This place is too cute! If you are a cupcake fan this should be the next place on your list to check out! I am always on a never ending quest to find the perfect cupcake and my search is now over! The cake was so moist and delicious and the frosting was creamy without being too sweet. I got the vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing and sprinkles. I can’t wait to try something else. The woman behind the counter(who I believe was probably Roz, not sure) was so friendly and inviting. After eating my cupcake she wanted to know if I liked it, how it compared to other cupcakes I had, any suggestions, etc. I told her it was the best cupcake I have had in Philadelphia thus far. She invited me back and told me bring my friends. This spot is going to be a favorite of mine, I can’t wait to try everything else they have to offer! Oh, if you do decide to go, make sure you have cash. Credit only on order $ 20.00 and above.

These are the best cupcakes I’ve had in Philly. Their hours are a bit uneven, but if you happen upon them when they’re open, get a cupcake! I LOVE the banana. The chocolate are good, too. They have red velvet, which my mom liked(I hate red velvet cake). The frosting is sweet but not too heavy and complements the cake well. Get a box of cupcakes and sample them with friends. If you’re friends don’t like cupcakes, get new friends.
