The environment was very nice, friendly, neat, and they have a cool bar upstairs with some karaōke. Food was not amazing. It was a different sushi experience with rolls that were placed in the oven or had flamed fish on top. Not my favorite sushi place but was a nice experience.

I stuck to the 1st floor and had a great meal. Maybe I’ll climb the stairs for karaōke next time.

Had the Crispy Chicken. It was a lot like a general tso’s with teriyaki sauce. The Sauce was a kind of too salty but the chicken and crisp was extremely good. The ambiance was a little cave’y and claustrophobic on the second floor. This place is probably pushing 2 – 5 $ per item more than they should be.

So we went on a Monday evening and it was super empty at first. People started swarming in before we knew it. The food was pretty good. I’m a pretty picky sushi eater but I liked what I was presented with. They have other stuff on the menu too like noodle bowls etc, so if your friend likes sushi and you don’t, you’ll have things to choose from. The saki peachtini was nasty to me — I should have just ordered a beer because that’s what it tasted like. Their tempura icecream was pretty good. As far as price, I think they were too pricey for sushi but I suppose this is what you get for center city!

They make amazing sushi!!! I tried the Salmon Mango and Inferno and they were totally mind blowing! The japanese ceviche is tangy and super appetizing! Also try their chocolate cake — not too sweet not too creamy, just right!

Fuji has been on my list to try for a very long time. I was very disappointed by scattered/confused service and the overall performance. The rolls were okay and seafood was not fresh. All of the people I went with were fine but my friend’s mom got food poisoning after eating uni…(no one else ate uni). The uni was a dark mustard-y color and we were definitely questioning the color, she had it anyways. They should not be serving old seafood.

I’m just not sold. Because Karaōke is so popular, there is really an opportunity here to give a chic, swanky adult fun vibe – as is typical in many other Japanese and sushi restaurants. But that was missing here. My disappointment began at the door. I thought surely I was at the wrong place and must not have specified correctly to my GPS that I meant Fuji Mountain. This door I stood at looked like a sushi or chinese carryout. This couldn’t possibly be the right place for my friend’s 28th birthday party. But somewhere between the neon lettering and and the awnings, I found the sign indicating that this was indeed the Fuji Mountain. Whomp. The guy greeting us when we walked in was nice enough. There was a sign indicating which room my friends were in. He directed us to that room. We thanked him and headed upstairs. The politeness of the staff ended there. Once in the private room, I couldn’t help be disappointed more. The décor was very outdated and didn’t completely make sense for the function. There were benches attached to walls and then coffee tables in the middle of the room – which wasn’t quite in arm’s reach from the benches. There were no coat hangers or racks for our things. And so one of the benches soon became dedicated just to our belongings. And eventually, our bench even became separated from the wall. I have no idea how. The room and seating were extremely awkward and not conducive to eating. It makes more sense to me that you eat before you get here or eat after you leave. Even ordering drinks and appetizers was difficult and I have no idea how those ordering entrees managed to get by. There was never any silverware, extra plates, napkins, or anything of the sort that you typically need to eat brought to us. The sushi I ate with my hands was nothing to write home about. On to the actual Karaōke. This part was fun but the song list was out of date and organized oddly by song title. I think organizing the songs by genre and artists would have really helped me. And the background music sounded a lot like those early 2000s ring tones lol. I mean that’s fine. Delightfully cheesy. Although food and décor were issues, I would not rate Fuji a 2-star restaurant just because I expected more there. What it really came down to was how we were treated by the service staff. They seemed extremely irritable and upset to be serving us. I get that some people were intoxicated but no one was ever rude, obnoxious, or caused any problems. And I would expect this restaurant and waitstaff to be used to loud, excited birthday parties – as many of the groups there with us that day were quite loud as well. I thought that was the point of the private rooms. Two of my friends began dancing to a song and the waiter actually yelled at them to stop jumping. It seemed like he was almost parental in his mannerisms and reprimands. But we aren’t children. I’ve seen waitstaff be quite masterful at handling large parties. This is not Fuji’s strong suit. At the end of the day, I drank my fill and had fun with my gang. But I would never return here. I will go where I am treated with respect.

Stopped in for a snack after a day of walking. A great sakedon is hard to find. Either the fish is mediocre or there isn’t enough of it. Not so here. Just enough fish for the amount of rice.

Excellent food presentation, amazing quality, fresh, very clean(I’m super weird about hygiene and it can make or break a place), nice atmosphere and a clean bathroom with good quality toilet paper(did not need it but nice to know its there when you do need it). This Was my first restaurant week experience and I loved every minute of this great experience!

Fuji Mountain is one of my impulsive«lets– go-get-sushi» places in Center City. They have a nice quiet section on the second floor and the service is exceptional. I usually order a few special rolls and head on to dessert. My favorites are the Washington, Firecracker, and Inferno! The real reason why this restaurant deserves more credit is because of the service. No matter who is serving me, they are always quick, kind, and ready to serve.(I know a bit corny) But it’s true! I know for some people, getting seated and being acknowledged when you first enter a restaurant is important but that’s something I didn’t find a problem here. I walk in and sit down at a table upstairs, and they’re ready to serve. No questions asked. They also have a karaōke section on the third floor! I’ve never been to this section; however, every time I am here that section is always busy as well. Extra points for having many options! I would definitely check this place out for their sushi!

I went with friends on a Saturday just as they opened. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food and have a good time. However, I believe I had the best dish. I decided to try something I’ve never had before because I wanted fish but I’m kinda avoiding sugar and other things right now so I couldn’t have rice, anything with soy or anything sweet. I ordered the Hamachi Kama in the appetizer section and oh boy, it was soooooo good! I would 100% go back there just for that dish and order it again. It came out and was bigger than I thought. Crispy on the outside and like butter on the inside. Melted in my mouth the way fish always should when it is cooked right. I polished it off and was poking around the bones of the fish trying to scavenge any last pieces. My friend who tried a bite even said that it was probably the best thing out of everything ordered. I also had the tuna Tataki, it was good. But, definitely overshadowed by the amazingness of the Hamachi Kama. And I’m a lil stuffy right now so the delicate flavor of the tuna was a bit lost to me. So yes, go, and order the Hamachi Kama. If I had not been super hungry I would have taken a picture. Next time I will take a picture. It was delicious, I will be back to eat that again! And yes, there is the 20% gratuity added to your check, but I tip that anyway, so it was nice not to have to do the math. :-)

On my latest visit, I found out that the head sushi chef has left. Previous souschef became a new head chef. He was okay. Fish was fresh. But it was not same. The restaurant is still above average though.

I have been to Fuji Mountain a few times over the years. My first experience was about six years ago, when a group of friends and I reserved their karaōke room on the top floor of the restaurant for my birthday happy hour. Service was slow but we had an enjoyable time in the private room. More recently I have been to Fuji Mountain for dinner on two separate occasions… both in a more sober frame of mind than I was for karaōke happy hour. They have a pretty large menu but nothing too creative or unique. I ordered some basic rolls from the sushi menu and was happy with the quality but overall bored. There was nothing about my meal that I couldn’t get from any other sushi restaurant in the city, of equal or better quality. If you are looking for great sushi in the Rittenhouse area, try Zama; it is only two blocks away from Fuji Mountain.

My friend and I were famished after going to Terror Behind the Walls – Scared Hungry! We were really craving sushi so we found this place. The sushi was really good. We ended up getting the Scallop Crunch roll(which was amazing! It was extra crispy!) and the sashimi platter which was also very good. Decent sized slices of good quality fish. Would definitely come back! We did end up coming pretty late, and it was getting a little rowdy since it’s mostly a bar area at night, but that was to be expected.

Since my last review, I’ve come back a few times for hand rolls and today I got the tempura udon again for lunch. It seems like the quality has gone down slightly. The hand rolls are tasty but nothing special. I find the temperature they keep the fish at to be a little too low but that’s just personal preference. My udon noodles were definitely overcooked and the toppings less plentiful than before. I’ve had so many great experiences here, leading me to be optimistic that this is a fluke. I hope I have something good to say after my next visit.

Ok, so I’ve only been here once but liked it(for the most part)! I thought the seaweed salad was a bit petite. I was also a tad upset it was not a BYOB. The sushi«boat» was fun.(It was more of a tray than a ship.) The fish was fresh, especially the sashimi. The special rolls were ok. My favorite was the one wrapped in avocado. I’d come back here again, but I think I’ll stick with more BYOB places!

Had a great lunch here during restaurant week. Got lots of food for only $ 20. I started with the Miso Soup and Green Salad. The soup was very flavorful and scrumptious. The dressing on the green salad was great and it was a nice size portion. Then I had the beef dumplings as an appetizer. This was my least favorite dish. The dumpling itself was good but the meat was not very good and the dipping sauce was not sweet/too salty. For my main course I had the chicken teriyaki and it was delicious! There were big pieces of chicken breast and the sauce was so good. Perfectly sweet. Served with white rice and a bunch of veggies. The rice is really good too. My only complaint was that it was served with like a crispy onion crumble on top and I’m not a huge fan of onions so would get it without that next time. My friend got the sashimi salad and a sashimi/sushi combo and loved it. Said the fish was really fresh! Can’t wait to go back and try more things

This review is based on my small takeout order only: Strolling home last night, I wanted some sushi. I walked in, placed my order and was out within 6 minutes. Stellar. Got home, everything was fresh, rolls were a nice size and everything I needed was in the bag. The gentleman behind the register(who also takes takeout orders) gave me a menu and told me to call ahead anytime and it would be ready for pick up. He also told me about their free delivery. Service for takeout was 5 stars. Thanks, Mt. Fuji!
