Samosa chaat was pretty okay. This is my first chaat, and i probably wont order a chaat again. The food was really heavy, and there were cold sauces meshed together with warm chickpeas and samosa. The blend of warm/cold food was just not great. I want a fully warm meal or a fully cold meal but not two different-temperature foods. But also, the food was nothing impressive. I don’t think I’m a chaat person.

I miss Desi Chaat House so much! I have dreamed of finding a place like this here in North Jersey but sadly have not. Just thinking of that tasty samosa topped with chaat and delicious sauces makes my mouth water. I love the combination of sweet, spicy, and crunchy. It is a delicious treat. I cannot wait until I am in Philadelphia again, I will surely visit!

I’ve tried various chaat places in west philly and there’s only a few and I found this one to be the best amongst the bunch. Friendly service and above average chaat mixes. I’ve had chaat back in India at some of the very best places and this chaat house comes close to the real deal. The prices are fair as well. I wanted to give it 4.5 but Unilocal doesn’t allow that. Only down side is every now and then they miss the mark on the sweet and spicy balance.

This place serves samosas chat which is pathetic and lacks taste And is tasteless and other items are cold and never served hot. Service is very bad and prices very high compared to quality

Its a worst place I have ever been… generally the reviews for this restaurant are given good by American people… they like different kid of taste… but if a true Indian goes in there he/she will find out how horrible it is… first of all they hired a non Indian guy to run a restaurant… he has no clue what he’s doing… I was there couple weeks ago… I asked him for green chitney he looked at me didn’t respond… the chaat I ordered was terrible… my recommendation for this honor is to run his restaurant ny himself… its a joke… I wasted my money and time on the name…

I don’t understand why this place has so many reviews wit. 4 – 5 stars! I noticed this place driving to my friends place, we stopped by to grab snack/lunch! Walking in it seemed like corner store but Indian version! Extensive menu on wall for chaats! We ordered samosa chat mango lassi and kashmiri chat! I had Kashmiri chat which was ok! My friend had samosa chat which she offered me to try a bite! Samosas where gone bad and smelled like it was very old I told her not to eat it further! I ask guy at counter if he can please replace it! He gave me look like he didn’t understand what I was saying! Never coming back to this place.

I come here a lot for the mango lassi because it’s grab-and-go. I have gotten the samosa chaat, as well as the chicken chaat in the past. For some reason there is always a guy working there that is on his bluetooth headset talking to his friend. I don’t understand why it is always the same person working because I totally think the service would be better if he were not serving, because it’s pretty off putting having a dude talking to some random person while trying to take your order.

Best in University City and Best Chaat in Philly overall. Lots of veggie options.

Definitely an interesting food experience. I’ve never had chaat before. It’s got a lot of different spice, yogurt, mint chutney, and tamarind flavors — but also lots of different textures. The bowls are all well under $ 10 for a decent portion size. I was full after about 2/3s of mine and I usually eat everything on my plate! We got the Samosa Chaat and the special which was a black bean and chick pea one. They were both good with plenty of veggies, nuts, and crunchy things — also a lot of sauce. I preferred the samosa chaat. It’s interesting to note they are cold dishes which are perfect for the hot Philly summers. I definitely recommend them based on the experience and pricing(PS did I mention $ 1 veggie samosas?)

Nice spot to sit and chaat. I’ve come here a few times and gotten their chicken chaat, and I’ve never been disappointed. Cold, hot, spicy, sweet, sour — it has everything. Their mango lassis are very creamy and tasty as well. I usually stop here when I need a quick bite and am in the area. The service won’t stand out to you as much as at the nearby Mood Café, but I see myself coming back to this place in the future.

It’s just so good. The sauce on the chicken biryani is the perfect blend of creamy, with a hint of sweet. It cools down the spice and makes for an absolute perfect bite. I’m so glad I stumbled in and I plan to go back often.

Didn’t really know what I was eating, but it was so yummy. Nicely light and refreshing for a hot day after riding bikes and playing in the nearby Clark Park. We also had the familiar Samosas and Mango Lassi. Best Mango Lassi I’ve had in Philly.

I had a hankering for a solid chaat and did a quick search around center city and university city. Desi Chaat House was one of the few places that came up. The drive out to center city isn’t too bad, and it’s pretty easy to find street parking near the restaurant. I’ve been here twice now and ordered both the bhel puri and the samosa chaat, both of which have been right on point. Just the right amount of tamarind sauce, not enough to make it all too soggy. It’s sweet and crunchy, and the portions are actually pretty large. Definitely a great value for ~$ 5. A great place for snacky food and worth the trip out to university city.

It was my first time after looking at all the reviews. Good variety of different types of chats. I was craving for tikki chaat(potato patties with chickpeas, yogurt and different types of Sauces. It was made perfectly with right ingredients but the the main thing tikki was very disappointing. It was pre made and they just heat it up in the micro which is not the regular way(it should be fried and crisp) it was not tasting good. The place is little overpriced. I would definitely won’t order tikki again but may try other things like papri chaat or samosa. There quantities and packing is really good and the owner is very nice and friendly. Hope this helps.

O Desi Chaat, how much I owe thee. As a student without cooking skills, thou wert there for me. In the dark of night, thou acceptest credits cards, And fed me my fill on the way to bars. Although thou are eclipsed by the Mood Café, You were my choice, being just one block away.

We go at least once a week. He knows us by name now! The owner is very friendly and almost always there. He always personally makes our chaats. We love the special treatment and it keeps us coming back. I love the Punjabi chaat and his imblee chutney is impeccable. Probably the best I’ve ever had. I love having this place so close to where I live because every time I get homesick, Desi Chaat House satisfies all cravings.

When I lived in philly, I came to this place an absurd amount of times. Not because it’s the best tasting chaat or anything, but it’s quick, convenient, and cheap. For around 6 bucks, you can get food in less than five minutes and it’s reasonably filling. For those of you who are looking for something a little more exotic, try the pani puri chaat — there are these little crisp puffs that you poke a hole into, and fill with a chaat mixture and some tamarind water. One of the best things about chaat is that you get a different set of flavors and textures in every bite, which is a pretty enjoyable experience.

It’s the worst place for so called ‘Chaat’! It’s bland and not authentic and expensive for what you get. I also made the mistake of getting ’ Chicken Biryani’. It was disgusting and did not even resemble what a biryani should look like or taste like! The food at this place is a very poor representation of true Indian food ’ flavours.

A very nice Indian place serving mostly chaats. They have a good, basic variety of chaats. Ingrediants seem to be pretty fresh. They also have other foods like biryanies & samosas as well. The chicken biryani was very good, not too spicy, and the chicken had some good texture to it. They have some lassis, but just the basic ones — plain salted, mango, and rose, I believe. But, they are good & creamy. They also have a weird drink called«faluda», which is a rose — flavored milk drink with some sort of seeds, and vermicelli noodles.
