For such a huge town, Philly has really few options when it comes to computer tech stores. There’s BestBuy, Radio Shack and Staples. That sort of sums it up. When it comes to getting a good deal on parts, service or those items that are a little more complex and thus not at the big chains, there’s nowhere to go… Except this place. Talk about a Godsend! Situated on Oregon in a small rowhouse-y shop, they have been my go-to for everything computers. When I wanted to get a hard drive enclosure to put an internal drive inside(rather than spend $ 100+ on a pre-made external drive,) they had one for $ 10. When I wanted an adapter to change my SATA connection to PATA, they had one. More recently I needed an A/A USB cable — basically known as a USB extension cord — and all three major retailers mentioned above were charging $ 20 or more for them.(This is both standard and ludicrous. You could buy peripheral devices that COME with a USB cord, for less money than just the cord!) Com-Four-Comp sold me both the cord and a USB flash drive, 4 gig, for $ 15 total — no tax. This was much less than the posted prices. This place has it all, and usually they have a hundred of ‘it’. They seem to have a bunch of second hand stuff as well, and I do not have experience buying any of it, but I would say based on my experience that they are trustworthy. GOHERE for a flatscreen monitor before paying for a new one. The men who work here are all incredibly friendly, willing to barter, and knowledgeable. There is sometimes a slight language barrier(they are Asian and clearly English is not their first language,) but it doesn’t take long to get the message across. I can’t say enough good things about this place. (Side-note: if you ever ARE looking for things like a basic USB cable, printer cable, computer power cable etc…, stop by Philly AIDS thrift. They have hundreds sorted into bins, usually for a dollar each. It’s worth ten minutes to sift through!)
