Columbia Fish

Discovered this great fish fry near Temple University the other day. They are a local fresh seafood outlet, that sells fresh fish as well as fried seafood platters. The fried seafood platters is why most people come to these places, because where else can you get nicely breaded seafood and chicken wings fried to crispy, golden perfection? And, please do not say Chinese take out places, because if your still ordering fried chicken from a take out restaurant, then you need to stop eating Elio’s pizza for breakfast and move up in the culinary world. By no means, am i saying fried seafood is a luxurious cuisine, but its a staple food of all people who grew up in PHILADELPHIA.
I was tempted to try the many different combination plates that they have to offer. They fry anything from flounder filets, chicken wings, scallops, shrimp, clam strips, chicken gizzards (for those who really know), and crab sticks. I went with the fried scallops, shrimp and chicken wings combination because its like the best of both worlds. But then i had to get some fried crab sticks to remind my taste buds of my childhood growing in and around this great city. They usually give you french fries and cole slaw with each platter so you will be full no matter what. Don’t forget to add hot sauce and ketchup to this epic meal.
Its on Cecil B. Moore and 17^th street, so i know that this area may not be so appealing to the college students, since its more towards the rougher part of the area. However, this place is often patrolled by bicycling public safety officers, and closes at 7 PM, so you don’t have to worry about going there too late. Call ahead so you don’t have to wait after you check out the menu first, that would be my best tip to you on ordering.
Besides eating the same old chipotle and qdoba, i think having a nicely fried seafood platter hits the spot. Check this place out and come try what a true Philadelphia indulges in once in a while.
