Before I bought our boat I went to the Coast Guard Auxiliary to learn how to safely navigate, trailer and use the radio. All courses are taught by actual boaters and their certifications gives you an insurance discount. I highly recommend taking one of their courses to learn, refresh or hone your seamanship skills.
