British Imperial Dry Cleaners

I’ve never had a problem with these guys, and they clean my clothes pretty well. Friendly service, and dry-​cleaning can be expedited if need be. Overall, I’ve always had a good experience here.

Just started using this guy. On my first pick up, I noticed that there was a small hole in a knit sweater that I just received as a Christmas present. I’ve never had anything damaged from dry cleaning before, so I wasn’t sure how easy it was going to be to deal with the situation.
Since it was brand new and I had the receipt, he offered to pay for it immediately. Unfortunately, the style/​color was being discontinued, and it wasn’t available online anymore. The owner called up a store nearby, and found out that they had one left in my size. On his way home that night, the owner stopped by the store and bought it himself. I came back the next day and he handed me a brand new sweater.
I was pretty unhappy about my sweater being damaged, but I’m very happy with the way the problem was resolved. I didn’t even have to spend any time going to a store to find a replacement. He went and picked it up for me.
That’s pretty good customer service.

I decided to stop going to them after they started over charging for alternations. I asked them to hem the cuffs of my spring coat. It was a small alteration around the sleeve cuffs and required thin threading for my coat material and they wanted to charge me $ 20. After I heard their price I contacted the other dry cleaners within a few blocks radius and was quoted between $ 6-​$ 10. I told the owner about the price difference and he said he couldn’t do anything about the price b/​c that is the price the tailor provided. Since the tailor was his wife and he owns the business, I found it hard to believe he couldn’t change the price.

I used these guys for about five years, from sometime in 2004 (when Latimer cleaners lost a sweater) until I moved from the neighborhood in 2009. In all that time, I never had a lost or damaged item and always had everything ready on time. Owners/​staff are very friendly. If you prepay in cash, they will deliver your cleaning to doorman buildings in the area.
