The food was delicious, and the quality of ingredients were exceptional. This restaurant is a labor of love, and you can taste it in every bite. Lost Coast not only feeds your belly: it also feeds your soul.

Does anyone else notice that vegan/vegetarian/gluten free establishments tend to be on the more expensive side? Funny, b/c the whole premise of these foods is that they omit stuff. Why do I pay more to get less? Lost Coast Café does not make that pretense. Chili– Never though a non-meat chili would taste so good. The sunflower seed gives a more interesting texture. I enjoyed it a lot. 8⁄10 Garden Burger– My husband was pouting about me taking us here. He stopped pouting when he took his first bite of the burger. I don’t know how they packed this much flavor in. 9⁄10 Raspberry Brownie– Cakey. I think it was gluten free or something. I’ve made regular brownies that tasted like this, so I think that makes this version good enough. 5⁄10 I think this was the best place that we could have chosen to go to in Ferndale. BTW, they do provide free wifi. Not all the employees know that.

We came for lunch on Memorial Day. The wait was about 15 minutes The service was kind and good Vegetarian Chili: It’s okay, but not as good as chili with meat. Veggie sandwich: this was quite tasty. Served hot. Cheese was nice and gooey. Delicious bread. Highly recommended if you come here. Raspberry brownie: meh. Pass Location: right on Main Street. For a vegetarian restaurant it’s not too shabby. But because it’s a vegetarian restaurant I would probably pass in the future… simply out of principle.

What a little gem. Stopped by this place not expecting much. Ordered a salad to go for lunch. BEST salad ever! I am not a vegetarian by the way. Check this place out for great food.

I had the number 3(?)… Whichever came with the jalapeños… Ordered it with soup as well. DELICIOUS. I am not a vegetarian and I’ve been thinking about that sandwich for days now. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and from the fellow reviews I’m glad to hear that it’s homemade bread! Very friendly staff, we came in near the end of the day with only two other customers and we got free coffee! Almost made me cry at the idea!! Can’t wait to go to Ferndale again to try some more delicious sandwiches!

We had an awesome lunch at this little café and were so excited to find vegetarian food in a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere. I had the portobello sandwich, served open-faced(pesto, feta, roasted peppers, greens and portobello mushrooms) with a side of lost coast chili and my husband had the chili burrito with a side salad. The chili was decent but the sandwich was REALLYGOOD. I will crave it. We also had a chai and some coffee. The service was excellent and they were all super super sweet.

Best grilled cheese I ever had. Amazing portabella. Chili & soups are wonderful. The owner makes his own breads, starts his own sourdough, & hand makes his own pastries. I wish he was my dad. I’ll be back next time I’m in town! Yuuuuum! PS Organic coffee on the house!!! Can’t beat that!

Ordered a vegan burrito, since I was starving and we went out for a hike. I told the guy at the counter that I was vegan, and asked him for some recommendations. And guess what? I got my food so excited to try my vegan burrito, and my boyfriend looks at my plate and says, «You are gonna want to know something.» We both stared the burrito and knew there was real cheese on it, all melted and greasy looking. I took it back inside and Mario(owner dude) was like I’m so sorry about this, did you order this as vegan? Of course I did. Anyway, they both apologized and I waited again for the poor vegan burrito. It was mediocre. Make food at home instead. Pros: good bakery items! Cons: mediocre food, menu is not too big, nothing fancy, it smells like meat outside which is gross, make sure your food doesn’t have dairy if you’re vegan

Monday Italian night is amazing ! It starts off with freshly made variety of warm breads, an appetizer, a choice of one of Mario’s delicious homemade entrées followed by a nice dessert all for only $ 22! Such a great value. You can bring your own wine or drink and Mario just might join you. Do yourself a service and spend a Monday night meal with an incredible chef.

I went in here today and literally ate the best grilled cheese I’ve ever eaten in my life. I don’t even think calling it a «grilled cheese» is very accurate because on top of delicious, gooey cheese covered in pesto, it was packed with tons of veggies including peppers, onions, mushrooms, carrots, etc. the bread was crispy and tasty, and it came with potatoes that were perfectly spiced. This is probably the best restaurant in Ferndale, I recommend to anyone who loves amazing food!

Flavor! Flavor! Flavor… Never thought Vegan Food could taste so good. The adult grilled cheese sandwich was off the charts delicious and the house made chili was incredible. All dishes made fresh daily with local organic real food. Can not say enough about this small unique restaurant… It is a Wowzer! So far the best find on this trip to the North California Coast.

I’m not a vegetarian, but I love eating at vegetarian/vegan restaurants — typically the quality is excellent and this place was no exception. The food was so flavorful and well done(and flat-out pretty, embarrassingly enough, we all Instagram-ed our meals) most of it was local — really what a restaurant should be. I took away a star for the waitress we had. I’m not sure if she was just new or super distracted, but she wasn’t very good at her job. I ordered a grilled cheese and she wrote it down as a breakfast sandwich, I corrected her and she said that the breakfast sandwich was the brunch version of the grilled cheese. … then why is the grilled cheese listed on the brunch menu? After of the rest of my group had finished ordering, I confirmed again that I had ordered the GRILLEDCHEESE and her response was that the breakfast sandwich was the same thing, except with egg. I said I didn’t want the egg on it and she shrugged and walked away. And guess what arrived? The breakfast sandwich. At that point, I was done arguing with her(seriously, what kind of waitress argues with you about what you want to order?!) and ate it. That being said, it was excellent. But still. I’d love to go back, but only if I can avoid the waitress.

I took my girlfriend here for lunch, on her birthday, since we were staying at the Gingerbread Mansion and I had read so any good Unilocal reviews. We were not disappointed, the food is great! The man, Mario is a great guy, easy to talk to and took our order himself, helping us with the menu items. I’m not a vegetarian and neither is my girlfriend, but after eating Mario’s dishes it is easy to see why I could be if I ate regularly at his place. I had a vegetarian grilled sandwich with soup, and it was excellent!
I saw a couple walk into the restaurant look around(there were only a few customers in there at the time) and walked out. I wanted to grab them and tell them to come back in, because they’ll be missing out on a great meal. The restaurant is small and inconspicuous, but very clean, and Mario attends to every aspect. The food is fresh and prepared to perfection. Mario is from the bay area, and could easily make a small fortune with is restaurant here, but prefers the quiet tranquility of Ferndale, and loves what he’s doing. He’s truly a great guy, with a lot of talent. The prices are very reasonable and Mario makes sure you feel welcome!

We stumbled upon this place by chance. After a big trip up north we were coming down back to SF and wanted to just check out the town and see if there is breakfast or lunch. When we asked if we can sit with our little dog in the patio, they replied:“we worship dogs!” And asked if they can bring him the doggie special — a plate of some bread, cheese and apple:) he loved it. We had two breakfast plates which were tasty, fresh and wonderful — a cut above anything from a regular breakfast place. Highly recommended if you are in the neck of these woods :)

Delicious find with outdoor garden seating, friendly service and perfectly executed eats. Try the Lost Coast Special Salad — if I ate this every day, I’d be a better person :)

Not enough words to describe what a great experience this place is!!! If you go to ferndale don’t miss the Lost Coast Café. I was doing a bike trip from Eureka to Santa Rosa and the guys at the bike shop in Eureka told me my first stop should be Ferndale for a sticky bun. Sounded perfect as it was my first day and a 20 mile stop. They place famous for sticky buns in Ferndale was closed on Sunday so I happened into the Lost Coast Café. I am so happy the other place was closed. The owner is amazing! He was the host, waiter, and working the kitchen! Clearly loves his business. We had the most amazing fresh organic omelette with fresh veggies and goat cheese and of course a sticky bun. Everything about this place is a 5! I really can’t say enough. GOTHERE :)

I chose this place because of reviews. The reviews do not lie. Fantastic food! The split pea, ginger, and coconut soup and along with the black eyed pea, cauliflower, & cabbage soup are a great choice. Black bean burrito and grilled cheese were amazing! Will go back for sure.

The food here is really good! I had the Tex Mex Omelet and it packed a flavor punch that nearly knocked out my taste buds! Lindsay had the California Dreamin’ Omlet. Both our omelets had homemade pesto, which was sensational! Mario is a good guy. He’s truly interested in health and happiness. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, both of which areas give a peaceful zen-like feeling. We will definitely return to Marios Lost Coast Café! Thank You Mario!

I was so excited to find a VEGAN friendly option in Ferndale at the start of my motorcycle trek down the Lost Coast! It was a bit difficult to find — look for a gate and a terrace wedged between two buildings rather than the front of a restaurant — but find it, I did! The service was super friendly, the salad and the sandwich were excellent. The decaf soy latte was PERFECT. The bread is baked in house and it reminds me of my grandmother’s homemade bread — a bit crumbly with an airy crumb, but very good flavor and mouthfeel. Everything was so delicious and I felt super relaxed and happy, ready for my solo foggy coastal ride and bumpy trip down Usal Rd. I can’t wait for my next trip in the area so I can go back to the Lost Coast Café!
