After staying at the Ritz Carlton and playing in a scramble tournament at their course, we decided to try somewhere different but close by. The Golf Club at North Hampton was a wonderful treat. All of the staff we encountered were as friendly as possible. The golf course was challenging but very fun and interesting. It’s a course that you must play over and over to understand it so we hope to return again and improve our scores. Looking forward to our return!

I was at their Clubhouse for a Holiday dinner and I was super impressed. Not only was the food good, the bartenders were super sweet. We had a buffet which can go either way when it comes to quality. But the food was delish and the desserts were awesome! They also have a cool back patio area with a fireplace for the winter months that overlooks the golf course.

I read some flattering reviews on this course and was excited to play the Palmer designed course. To begin, this course would be pretty difficult for most average golfers. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and there was hardly anyone playing the course. This may be due to the lack of marketing but it could also be due to the difficult layout of the course. There is not much landing area on the drives and if you miss the fairway, you’re either in the deep woods or the thick brush. Some of the elevated greens are small and elevated and precision is demanded. There were some very picturesque and beautiful hole layouts. On this day, the greens were in very good shape and rolled fairly. However, the fairways suffered from areas of brown patches. I’m not a grass expert but this could be due to lack of water in the area since I heard the area was suffering from a mild drought. Also, don’t venture too far near the water or brush looking for the ball because there are alligators in the lakes. I spoke to a homeowner who lived on the course and he was complaining trying to find a snake in the a/c unit of his house. After I spoke to him, I decided the brush could keep my errant shots. In conclusion, a low handicapper may really enjoy the change of scenery in the JAX area. I played Eagle Landing the next day and that course, while very nice, seemed rather ordinary compared to the North Hampton Bay course. But if have trouble keeping the ball straight, then you may want to play at a more open course like Eagle Landing.
