I caught Lez Zeppelin here on 1÷9÷16. A terrific show. The staff was friendly and courteous. The venue could use a little TLC, but it has charm. A pair of restaurants neighbor the building to the right.

Worst place ever!!! Inconsiderate of people trying to get home safely. Not going back ever and will advise all my British and Russian friends to avoid the venue!!! Been in America for over 3 years and this was the worst experience ever!!!

We saw The Mavericks and really enjoyed both the music and the friendly intimate setting. The only issue we had was trying to determine what time to arrive. Our tickets said doors open at 7 and show at 9. I didn’t want to sit for two hours waiting for the show to start so I called to get more info and was told that for some shows people line up as early as 1PM but since i had a balcony ticket id be guaranteed a seat but not a reseved seat, so my wifw and I may or may not sit together. Given this info I just rolled the dice and showed up at 815. The theater was pretty full but we had no problem finding two seats together in the balcony. I suspect this is more of an issue with really popular young bands than for a band like The Mavericks who appeal to a wider spectrum. The seats were comfortable even if leg room was a little tight. Ushers downstairs were very polite and the atmosphere was so friendly we had a great conversation with the people around us until the show began. The show itself was fantastic, though the acoustics made the music louder than we prefer, but that happens in most places nowadays. We were very impressed with this small but friendly and intimate venue.

Ok, I love this place for shows, don’t get me wrong. I am just sick and tired of the skimpy table service and terrible bathroom attention. Locking of the first floor toilet is just plain rude, especially because they don’t have anyone maintaining the bathrooms on the second floor. And I’m tired of them excusing poor table service because they are understaffed. I prepaid $ 20 for the table and another $ 18 in service fees on top of our ticket price, then I ordered $ 143 of food and drink, so don’t tell me you can’t afford to have more than one server for the whole room, EVERYTIME I COME! Having to bus my own table and then wait 30 minutes for the check at the end of the night is absurd!

Saw my first show at the State(KMFDM with Chant and Seven Factor. The whole experience from start to finish was excellent ! I will definitely be coming back here ! They will walk you over to a table in most cases(unless you want to be on the floor) I got a table in the very front of the room. The waitress(Jessica) was the sweetest and the sound was excellent. KMFDM was amazing live as was Chant and SF. The doorman, the people checking me in, pretty much everyone was basically very nice. I’m very pleasantly surprised based on other reviews and will be back for more !

Old run down theater that apparently appeals to the young crowd. If you get there very early when the doors open you may be able to get a table seat on the floor, but they are limited. They have servers on the main floor. Otherwise you’ll be in the balcony and need to get any food or drinks yourself. The bar line can be a long wait. So maybe the locals like this place, but not worth a drive to get there in my opinion.

The State Theatre ROCKS it as a small musical venue. They’ve done a complete retrofit of this former movie theater in a way that makes it a perfect venue to meet your rock ‘n roll fantasy needs. The acoustics are good. I like the general admission SRO in front of the stage with an option for additional table seating(FCFS or by reservation) downstairs and additional seating upstairs. The facility is clean and the staff is friendly. I believe they have three full service bars. Definitely recommend catching a show a the State Theatre.

Well my ear drums just got permanently damaged by the volume being way too loud for a questionable opener. I’ve been waiting an hour for a crab cake sandwich(actually it just came… with potato chips even though I specifically requested no sides). I will say this venue has decent guac, but unfortunately I will be avoiding it in the future. I hate writing negative reviews but I feel obligated.

Great place to see a show. Unfortunately the State sells too many tickets. Good views are practically impossible unless you reserve a table. Good luck with that. Unless you want to stand in a giant crush of people, there isn’t much seating. The State is way overpriced.

This is a very good place to see a show in the burbs in a casual environment where the knuckleheads are few. You can find a comfortable spot to stand or sit if you wish and just chill. The staff are nice. Even if you go to a show by yourself you will still have a decent time.

Great place to catch a show! Especially if you want a nosh or a drink along with same. We went to see the Bearcat Boas and Twisted Knickers Burlesque, which was an outstanding show! But, this review is about the theater, so that’s all you get out of me on the event. Guess you should have been there… Anyway, the locale. I’m not fond of driving over an hour for a show, but that’s nobody’s fault. My friend won the tickets, so we were ecstatic to see the show for free. Though we would have paid, too, but again, that’s another review for another site… The neon lights were not all lit! I know, it’s a small thing, but it’s the STATE theater, not the TATE. Show some pride, Tate! I like the old-school feel of the place, though, the old movie theatre atmosphere. But, I appreciate the full bar and wait service while I’m watching a show. Our waitress was nice, not overbearing, not too pushy or distant. She was always smiling. Overall, lovely setting, great outing, and worth coming back! Arriving early a huge plus, too!

Arrived to see Johnny Lang but could not get a seat due to people saving seats for others(some saving 8 seats at a time). I complained to staff but told thats the way it is. I thought general admission meant first come first serve but guesd I was wrong. My date and I had to leave because of no seating.

I went to see the legwarmers here this past night and had a great time. Yes the place is a little old but it takes you back in time to when theaters actually looked like that. There’s tacky carpet and an old school vibe. The layout is defiantly dated but everything is taken care of. Things aren’t broken they have nice sound equipment, bathrooms, etc. If your looking for an old theater that has been renovated to be trendy this is not the theater for you. But if you are looking for a chance to go back in time and see what theaters looked like way back when(or just go see a great band in a smaller venue) than this is where you want to go. The legwarmers themselves were amazing, the drinks were great and the price was comparable to any other bar in the area. The upstairs had stool seating and balcony seating(the balcony seating were tall chairs with a table on every row where you could set your drinks) To sum it up: If you want a nice, classy theater this is not the place for you. But if you just wanna kick back have some fun or like old places(built in the 30’s) this is the place for you.

A bunch of friends and I went to The State Theatre for a Legwarmers concert, and it seemed like just your average music venue, nothing special. I definitely got a big 1960s vibe from this place, especially in the lobby and entry area. It just seems really old. Irrespective of the concert I was going to, there seem to be adequate room for people to stand. For whatever reason, they locked the second bathroom area even though the theater was mostly full, so the lines for the bathroom were really long. Upstairs seating first-come first-served second floor, but I think people were mainly standing during the concert. The bar was minimal and also old. I definitely would prefer the 9:30 club over The State Theatre, that’s for sure.

Do not use their website to purchase tickets. I purchased tickets for one show, and yet the website automatically switched me to another show without telling me. Now I am stuck with tickets to a show I cannot attend and the box office refuses to give me a refund even though it was their website that made the mistake. Though they assure me I can«sell the tickets at face value.» That’s great but now I am the one stuck struggling to sell tickets to a show I didn’t intend to purchase tickets for. Will NOT be going to a show here again anytime soon.

I went to the comedy nigh and the staff is sooo rude. From the minute you walk in they treat you like you are at the«club» the«bouncers» treat you like some kinda kid trying to get into the club without ID. We are professionals and do not like to be treated in such way. Some guy name Steve was very condescending when I asked him a question. –Steve it was our first time in your establishment. I’m sorry for the questions about the table and the stairs– Drinks(cocktails) from the bartenders were pumped with juices or mixes, couldn’t taste the alcohol. Overall was disappointed. Only one comedian was funny or maybe I was not enjoying the night due to the service or lack there of.

I definitely felt like I traveled back in time to the ‘80s after attending a Legwarmers(‘80s tribute band) concert this past weekend. The State Theater is a little rundown, but the venue gives off the retro feel that really makes you feel like you’re in the ‘80s. Drinks are cheap and the bartenders are quick, bathroom lines go by quickly, and the security and will call lines are efficient. There’s plentiful amounts of parking around the venue, but unfortunately, no close distance metro access to and from there. If you’re going for the Legwarmers, you’ll have the chance to dress up because leotards, leggings, side ponytails, headbands and sweatbands, tracksuits, and many other outfits are abundant! I also saw a few Michael Jacksons, Hulk Hogans, Marty McFlys, and Pat Benetars. It was a fun experience and I’m definitely going to check it out again in the future!

I definitely love the newly renovated space! It is cleaner… and has a ton of seating available. They also renovated the upper level and it reminded me of how the 930 Club is set up. The food is normal bar fare, we did try the deep fried pb&j sandwich. It was goood. I hope they start booking more cool shows at this local venue!

Relived my past life as an 80’s flash dancer last week, for that. i SALUTEYOU! First time here and the stuff you overhear people mention while sipping on your latte at Caribou; its a shithole. Take it at face value, and you’ll never understand the sweet sweet honey this charming bumble bee can provide. This shithole is the Wonderland Ballroom of Falls Church. The place is huge, and probably fits about 400 – 500 people easy. Chalk filled with a complete rundown atmosphere, old school huge bar, and staff that seem to actually give a fuck. Everything has its charm. Come here knowing this was an actual theater at some point. so it shows it every where you look. Came here for the Legwarmers, an 80s tribute band, and they fucking rocked it. Seriously, I was Richard Simmonsing it up while pop locking it to Madonna. The one let down, no top gun music :(One can only wish for such awesomeness. All you bitch-asses complaining about the balcony, harden the fuck up. Go down in the pit. met some new people. and get shitty. The drinks were actually funny. Fat tire — $ 6.00, Double Jack and Coke — $ 6.00. Easy solution here. My boy Jack and I hung out all night, and if we kiss and told I’d probably be banished from my sweet Unilocaling world. A word of advice … coat check, don’t do it. I don’t give a shit if its 0 degrees out, you will wait 20 – 30 minutes to check your coat. Then again on your way out. Will def come back here again. Can;t wait for White Ford Bronco.
