No problem with haircut but waiting can be long, sometimes very long even with an appointment. Once I waited almost an hour after my appointment time.

It shouldn’t be that hard to cut guy’s hair… but somehow, I’ve experienced issues when I’ve come to this salon. No doubt, May is a great hairstylist and very capable. The problem lies with the other employees and the issues that arise when there seems to be a backlog with waiting customers. If given the choice between May and the other women, definitely go with May. I’ve found the other women to be rather incompetent at following simple directions(e.g. numbers on the buzzers, tapered sideburns) and stubborn at accepting criticism/follow-up directions. So, just go with May. She is much more adept at speaking English, following directions, and cutting hair in general. The other issue arises when the store is busy and there are additional customers waiting for cuts. In those instances, it seems they are jumping at the bit to finish your hair as fast as possible and with little regard to how you actually want your hair cut. So, I’d try to avoid this place during the busy hours(weekend afternoons/nights), and go during the week if possible. In all, May is really quite fantastic the times she has been able to cut my hair, but my overall experience with her shop is quite, as Unilocal puts it, «meh.»

eh I’ll start off saying that she does a good job cutting hair. She really does follow your instructions and cut your hair accordingly. unfortunately, I was not only here for a haircut, I also got my hair permed. I was quoted $ 120 for my long hair for the cold perm. When I came in, I first explained to her how I wanted my hair trimmed, and then showed her a couple of pictures for the perm. I wanted big curls and from my chin downwards. She didn’t really bother looking at the pictures I was showing her, she just kind of glanced and nodded. even my mom mentioned how she didn’t seem to pay attention. i got shampooed and my hair was cut. the haircut turn out well because she followed what i had wanted. then she turned me over to her assistant for the perm. I noticed how she only used one bottle of solution when she said she would need two due to my long hair(the reason for charging $ 120). then after all the curling was done, i was shampooed again and she blew dry my hair straight. and out of nowhere she pulled out a hot iron and started styling curling my hair. it was really strange, why was she using a hot iron when i just got my hair permed and wanted to see the results? i left, feeling a little off because my hair was straight after the blow dry but i convinced myself that it would be okay after i shampooed. three days later, i shampooed, and half my hair was curly while about 3 inches of my ends were straight. I was shocked because my hair had three distinct sections of straight-wavy-straight. my mom called and we scheduled another appointment. I came in and this time may did my hair all the way through. I showed her the pictures I wanted again, and this time she didn’t even pretend to look at them. she just kind of brushed them off. then she pulled me into the back and started perming my hair. this time i could tell she used two bottles of solutions. however, since she didn’t pay attention to what i had wanted, she used these tiny rollers and rolled them all the way up to about where my eyes were. I told her that i wanted loose curls and she said that it’ll be looser but she needed to use the smaller curlers now. after the perm, i could immediately tell something was wrong. my hair was so incredibly poofy and large even when WET. so i commented on how tight the curls were and she said that they’ll loosen. when i got home, my hair got even poofier since it dried. it was pretty much three times the size of my face. on top of that, my hair was extremely dry and frizzy. i was pretty stunned because this was about the last thing i had wanted. i searched all over the internet for ways to loosen curls but none of them worked enough. I was going back to school and my mom told me to be patient and wait until the perm starts to loosen on it’s own. i did, and 3 months later it was still as frizzy, poofy, and dry as ever. when i came back during break i called may again and told her how my hair isn’t what i had wanted and we made another appointment. when i walked in, i didn’t style my hair. i just shampooed and let it air dry. her assistant tried to brush my hair and it was impossible. Then she sat down and was like oh maybe we should have used larger rollers and grouped your hair together more. well, you really should have gotten that from my pictures the first time. she also said that she’ll order larger rollers for me. look if you didn’t have the proper equipment then you should have told me the first time. anyways may recommended putting relaxers in wait a couple of months, and then re-perming. i agreed. but she even messed this up. she didn’t put the relaxers all the way to where the perm had started so there was an awkward crown of wavy hair sitting around my ears. however, again, she styled my hair(with a curling iron this time) after the relaxers so i couldn’t tell until after i shampooed. oh and she also charged me $ 35 for styling my hair with the iron and trimming my bangs for about 2 seconds. another month passed by(i was in school) i called again since she said she would re-perm my hair. at this point i could tell from her voice that he was annoyed at how i complained for so many times… but this was your fault lady. and i also told her that maybe i don’t want to get it permed again and i just want her to completely take out the curls because it looked strange. so she just said to come in and she’ll look at it. i walked in this time, also with natural hair so she could see the awkward curls. she proceeded to tell me how the awkward kinks only around my ears were«stylish» and added volume. then she said that she’d charge me $ 80 if i wanted my hair permed again. I tried to reason with her that she was the once who messed up but she just kind of looked away and said $ 80 is already a discount. so basically i spent around $ 160 dollars just for my hair to look really shitty with random curls and damaged. and she refuse to admit that she didn’t put in the relaxers right and wouldn’t put them in again

I like this place. Price is reasonable. May does a great job. I can’t say for the other hairdresser. I’m taking off one star bc they never answer the phone call. I like to cal for appointment and check closing time before I stop by, but I could never get through. After a few times I got frustrated and go somewhere else

Whenever I go home to visit my family, I come here to get my hair done. I’ll even wait until May is available because I don’t really trust the other ladies who haven’t been there for as long. I can bring in a picture of what kind of hair I like, and she won’t try and sway my opinion or «refine» it, just makes it work for me. What else can I ask for from a hair place? Affordable, friendly service, and I get crazy makeup tips, too. Nothing fancy. The missing star is for the quality of service I see from the other hairdressers.
