Yeah, this place is unfortunately a joke. Went this afternoon, sat down, and was told it would be a 30 minute wait for orders. okay, i was in no hurry. placed my order… a lady across from me was unhappy because she was sitting for a while and wanted to talk to the manager, which took a few minutes, then the manager proceeded to mock her, and talk about her when she left. as my wife and i were waiting, my wife noticed a server walk into the ladies bathroom, and saw a male and female leave the ladies restroom, and i turned and saw it also. a few seconds later, a lady with toddler girls left the restroom. i obviously said something about getting this guy taken out of the place, and a server told me that it was«okay, because you know, he’s gay». i believed i said out loud that someone needed to call the police. right then, i got my food, and the bottom bun was inedible due to staleness. the server was awesome, but i did not really want a different item. i asked to speak to the manager… wrong question. took about ten minutes, and the man in the bluish-green stained shirt walked up, and asked what was wrong, and i mentioned the poor quality of bun, and the man in the ladies room. he responded with a question, «do you see how busy we are today?» i answered with, its half full. he then asked where i worked, and if i had ever managed before. before i could answer, he said he was asking me to leave, and that i was not allowed to come back. if you look at other post today, this manager apparently was in charge of toasting buns today… i immediately got up and walked, mentioned that i was going to call the police on how this man was allowed to be in the womens room, and he threatened me again. i did call police, and explained what happened about the dude in the womens room, and the police man went to talk to the manager… i could never at this point recommend this place, i have a complaint in with the 877 number, but the bottom line is, if this manager is working, dont complain or he might boot ya’!! also, the orders are always slow because the hamburger cook only can do one order at a time

Wish it was possible to give out negative ranking because I would do so. Came in this evening with my family. 2 adults and 3 children. Yes it was busy. Yes it was a Friday night so I would expect this. What I didn’t expect was to be seated without menus. Then to wait 15mins to get our drink order in. We went ahead and ordered our food expecting to wait. We didn’t expect to wait and then recieve mediocre food. Especially since the manager«Ryan»(unsure if this is his name) but lets assume the receipt has it correct, was in the Kitchen area the entire time we were there. We watched several other tables get orders wrong and not get good service either. We were fine with our server she was new and kept apologizing and did keep checking on the table. Even if it was to apologize. What we did notice that stuck out in our minds was several employees standing around talking to each other avoiding the customers and more concerned about their own personal affairs. We just ate our food and were ready to get out of there. I took the bill to the cash register and waited with an elderly man. We stood there for 15 mins before anyone acknowledged us. Even though the manager could clearly see us. I let the elderly man check out first and there was some problem with how the server rang his order in so his coupons werent working. Rather than apologize and fix it the cashier began telling us how the server was new and didnt know how to do her job. Completely unnecessary. She finally figured his out. Then went to take care of our check and I explained it looked like I would have the same problem. She got all upset threw her hands up in the air and demanded the manager come take care of this. Ryan then came to take care of it and I attempted to explain our experience and what we had encountered. He could careless he just wanted to get us out of there. He discounted our food. Which I didnt ask for nor did I want. I wanted an apology from him. Instead he blamed the lack of employees and just kept saying we are trying to fix the situation. I was a restaurant manager for over 20 yrs and continue to work in customer service field. What I saw wasnt a staffing issue it was a management issue. How can he be in charge and be making sure things are running smoothly and that customers orders are getting out in a timely manner when he is hiding out in the kitchen. Steak n Shake is one ofy families favorite places to eat. My grandparents used to take me to this location when I was a kid. So tonight I drove the extra miles to this location feeling nostalgic, next time I will stop in Collinsville, Illinois. I wont be coming back. I have a feeling you lose quite a few customers everyday because of this. The service was slow, but if the food is hot and fresh and made correctly people will excuse the wait. The product is the most important part. People will handle rude servers and long waits so long as food is great. But poor servers, long waits and lukewarm food isnt acceptable. There are too many other options in the area.

Steak n Shake food is consistent: greasy and good, but this location is consistently show. After being told to «please hold for a moment» which turned into a three minute hold to order our food it took a full 18 minutes and 38 seconds to get our food. They have a timer behind the window on the wall to let you know how inept they are. If the food didn’t taste good they’d only get one star. Actuality it was for four shakes, after midnight while there wasn’t even any other customers there. But at least it tasted good after waiting sooooo long,

This place has really let it’s quality slide. One person had a Frisco melt, and the grease was dripping from the already drenched bread, and they could only eat a couple bites in fear of regurgitating the next bite. I had a chili dog with fries. The hot dog was so rubbery it was difficult to chew it, and it barely had any chili or cheese on it. The only plus was that half of the fries were edible– 2 stars

Why have this place not been shut down??? The most disgusting restaurant I have been to in a long, long time. The managers need to be fired and owners need to hire people that know how to manage a restaurant. The manager working today was useless and she completely over looked the disgusting tables, the filth all over the restaurant, an employee eating food while fill glasses for customers, and allowed employees to yell across the restaurant at each other. This place is a gross, mad house and needs some major help. So happy we decided to order shakes then leave after seeing how this place was managed. I will never visit this location again!

I am giving this place a one star because I am unable to leave a negative star. I have never been in a restaurant as dirty and disgusting as this place was. The tables were all covered with dirty dishes, the walls had hard crusted food on them. There was a pitcher of this awful pink liquid above the grill. The final straw was when I witnessed one of the servers drop a package of crackers on the ground and instead of throwing them away she tossed them back onto the guys plate. This place needs a health inspection ASAP!

We’ve been sitting at the Fairview Heights, Il, Steak ‘n Shake for an hour and still haven’t gotten our food. We had to ask to be seated. We did get our chili after asking but was told they are out of chili spoons. Then they were out of shakes, and then we had to ask them for placemats because the table was still filthy. By the way, they are supposed to put them down when they seat you. We finally went to the back to ask about our food and magically it showed up 15 mins later. Did I mention she brought the wrong order? And then someone in the back said«where is she?» angrily when she brought it back. They aren’t even busy. My mother worked here when we were young, it was always my favorite restaurant but now it’s run by sloppy dressed people who would rather laugh and joke in the back than work. Doesn’t the company take pride in their work anymore?

Where to start… The food is your typical steak’n’shake, but the service is terrible. Took 13 minutes to get waters and the waitress had a snarky comment for everything. In addition to that, completely ignored my 5 and 6 year olds when the politely asked for cars and crayons. The only bright spot was whenever Gina took over our table, apologized for our service issues and got everything outstanding request taken care of in like two minutes. She was fantastic, but the other one was the single most terrible server I have ever encountered.

I always look forward to Steak N Shake when I’m visiting STL/IL but this one was terrible. My burger had mustard ALL over the outside of the bun and the inside was filled with so much mustard it was pretty much all I could taste. Seriously, see my picture. It’s one thing to make a mistake and forget to hold the pickles or whatever, but there’s no way the employee wrapping this order didn’t notice this mess. Gross.

Horrible grease just ooozzzzing out of triple steak burger and dripping on fries. Not How’s that for an opening review? I’ve «never» experience that much grease dripping out of a burger!!! Well, this isn’t the place to grab a burger. Wait time for food is usually long, meaning, at least 15mins. So, if you’re hungry drink water before your meal. Most of the shakes are awesome. You can’t go wrong with ordering a shake.

I love Steak n Shake and thats tho only reason this one got 2 stars instead of one. After a 6.5 hour long flight, a burger and shake was all I wanted. We decided to stop through the drive through so we would be able to make our way the extra hour or so back to our family’s house where we were going to be staying. After the girl at the drive through finally understood our order correctly, we waited ten minutes for our food. Normally I don’t mind waiting in drive throughs for a little while, but after being up all day and traveling and staring at this big red timer saying 10 minutes had gone by and a line of cars full of rowdy teens start adding up… its pretty irritating.

Not the biggest fan of this location since they have run out of guacamole more than once within a couple of months. I have to confess: I’m addicted to the Guacamole Steakburger, and when I would treat myself to one every couple of weeks, I’d avoid this location for the one in O’Fallon. I once waited for the guacamole to be made(about 25 mins wait. Yeah, I know, I’m pathetic, but late night cravings must be satisfied), and the other time they said they were out, I just said forget it and drove on. Straight to the O’Fallon Steak N Shake. Service is ok here. Nothing stands out positively, but based on my experiences here, it’s not consistent. I’ll get my «crack» elsewhere when I next get the craving.

We just moved to the area and were looking for a good burger shake joint. We thought we’d give this place a try. Their burgers were too greasy that the bun was soaked in grease. I’ve got to admit it is tasty but not so good for you. We also ordered their shakes and they were pretty good.

I would give this Steak N Shake NO stars if that was option… it’s not if I want to write a review, so one star they will get. Let me just offer these words of advice… don’t bother going to this location if you want decent service OR if you are planning to drive-through and order specific condiments on your burger. I have visited this place for the LAST time. Last night I was shopping in the plaza where the Fairview Heights Steak N Shake is located and decided(hesitantly, I might add) to drive through and order the new Wisconsin Buttery burger… it’s an awesome burger, however, last night I was in no mood for grilled onions so I ordered it w/o the onions but with pickles and relish instead. My friend ordered her burger with everything but onion. The girl taking my order double-checked what we wanted on our burgers and I felt pretty confident that MAYBE this time the order would be right. When the bag was handed to me, I really thought about checking to make sure the order was right, but there were 2 orders of very hot fries on top of the burgers and we would have lost half of them trying to move them out of the way to get to the burgers, so I just let it go. Upon arriving home(starved, I might add), I grabbed my burger and fries and headed to the table to eat them. Well, my burger was MINUS the pickle and relish but the one item I asked them to leave OFF(the grilled onions), were front and center on the burger and that was IT! It was late and I was in no mood to go all the way back to the restaurant to complain, so today I will be sending them a nasty-gram to let them know that last night was the LAST time I was going to be a customer at their location. This was at least the third time I have not been given the correct order at this Steak N Shake and it will definitely be the last.
