This is a smaller size farmers market that is open on Saturday mornings in downtown Fairfax. I am able to meet my needs for veggies and fruits. There are plenty of samples to taste and enjoy. Plenty of parking available

On a sunny, Sunday afternoon, walking through a farmer’s market is the way to go. Immediately, I was blown away with the freshness of everything and wanted to buy everything. However, I practiced control, decided to walk around first, try the samples and figure out what I would purchase. I went with a huge cantaloupe, zucchini and yellow squash, and a head of garlic. There were mostly veggies stands, only one fruit stand, a few desserts and bread vendors, amazing sausage vendor, handmade soap and lotion stand, two antiques/flea market stands, and a few others. I plan to go next week for peaches, a desert, and a few empanadas. I took plenty of pictures which the vendors were totally ok with. I will be back!

As a total newbie to Farmers Markets, I have recently checked out a few in the area and this one so far seems to be the best. I cannot believe I have let this awesome fantastical market allude me for so long! They are open Sat and Sunday from May-October and while I don’t recall what time they start, I know they are open till 1pm. I am not an early birdie so the fact they are open till 1pm is great. I can sleep in, then go shop around and pick up some treats to snack on as I make my rounds checking out the local cornucopia! Upon arrival, the first thing I like to do is grab a bite to eat(you know so Im not shopping on an empty stomach and as a result buy everything in sight). There is a crêpe stand(which I have yet to try) and a mini donut stand. At the donut stand I usually buy some of the mini donuts which come with any type of topping you like and an ice coffee. After that I walk through the multiple vendors that are selling fresh local peaches(seriously the sweetest juiciest Ive ever eaten), watermelons, tomatoes, eggplants, beans, chard, and, a multiple array of other local fruits and veggies that are all delectably ripe flavorful and ready to be enjoyed! One of the vendors sells this absolutely fantastic olive oil and balsamic vinegar(Dimitri Olive Farms). It comes straight from Greece and is fantastic to use on all the fresh veggies. The only problem is that they typically sell out if you don’t get there early! Another vendor I like(not sure his name) but is an older Korean gentlemen who sells all sortsa breads and cakes. I bought a banana struesel coffee cake from him a week ago for 7 dollars and lets just say it disappeared from my fridge rather quickly. Overall I highly recommend this market. It offers a great selection in a great location. They also take credit cards(huge plus for a city gal like me) and there is usually no issues with parking! What a great way to spend a lovely morning all while supporting local farmers and vendors. Glad I found this gem, I now come here to buy all my fresh fruits and veggies and not only do they taste better, but I leave feeling good about my purchases. Better for me, better for local business, win win!

I have been going to the farmer’s market in Fairfax for several years. There are a number of vendors that I really love here and there are some that are ok. I always look forward to Kuhn’s apples and their wonderful jams. We stock up on them so we can ride out the winter with their wonderful taste. One vendor that I can’t remember the name of has a range of exotic cucumbers, squash and other interesting vegetables. The olive oil I buy here is from Greece and really good and they have added a vinegar fused with mago that is amazing. Great pork bar-b-que and who does not love fresh crabs and rockfish. They are a little expensive but well worth the treat.

I have only been to this farmer’s market once and I was supremely disappointed. I went sometime in late May. I noticed that one of the vendors was selling watermelons. Knowing that it was too early for any watermelons grown in this area to be fully ripe, I inquired with the farmer. He informed me that they were«coming from down South in Texas.» Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the watermelons had barcode stickers on them as if they were purchased at a grocery store and then were being resold at the farmer’s market. This completely defeats the purpose of shopping at a farmer’s market! Most farmer’s markets have rules that produce can come from no further than 100 – 200 miles away to be considered local. This is a serious grievance in my opinion. Someone who is not knowledgeable about growing seasons could be hoodwinked into thinking they are buying local, seasonal produce. This market needs to be better regulated and until then I will be choosing to patronize other markets.

Small without much selection and terribly overpriced for a farmer’s market. The few farmers stands that were there all sold humdrum veggies & fruits. Where’s the excitement? With all the groceries in the area getting local produce anyway, you’d think these people would at least match current prices or at least not charge 2x-3x as much. It’s also a huge neighborhood to get business, and they’ve got to get more vendors to make it worth visiting or at least get the vendors to act friendly… smile perhaps?(not sure what the previous reviewer was talking about… maybe the last time he went, this was a more active place)

This market has been around for 14 years and has 20 to 30 vendors every Saturday from May to November. You get a great selection of vegetables and fruit from Northern Neck, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. The chorizo and fresh vegetables and fruit are local and amazing. From May through July Wayne’s nursery sells flowers and bedding plants. It is a great place to meet people and bring the kids and the dogs. More like a Saturday event. Cant wait for it to start.
