Do not come here if you want a spa experience. The reception staff and stylists are so loud and rude with chit chat, banter and laughing. I felt like they actually made a point to be loud. Even the music in the lobby felt like you’re at a bar or club. I had a pedicure appointment and made my way to the«nail room» relieved to get away from them, but you could still hear, even after I asked them to close the door. I complained on my way out and they acknowledged they were loud. Obviously they don’t care. Linda did an excellent job with my pedicure, unfortunately for her I’m never going back. You can go to any nail place in Burke and have a better experience for much less cost.

Ting was awesome and I appreciate my friend recommending her to me. My last hairstylist burnt or over processes my hair:(Ting was able to cut off the dead ends, recolor and give a sassy new do! The salon is clean and well decorated! The entire staff was friendly and professional; too!

This business is run very poorly. When I checked in, I was told that the lady cutting my hair was running a special for $ 25 haircuts. Of course I was thrilled! After my haircut, when I was checking out, the front desk manager told me that she couldn’t honor the special because I was not part of their email subscription list(an email was apparently required to qualify for the special.) What?! If the salon prides itself on customer service, they would honor the special that I was told I would be receiving. My haircut looks great, but I will not be returning. I am not one to support businesses who care more about money than retaining a loyal customer base.

This place has really gone down hill over the years. I had a facial and had some type of reaction to the products. They insisted that I pay for it and«come back tomorrow» to see if the inflammation had gone away. Fine ! I paid … The redness was less but not gone the next day(but I will be darned if I am going back). They are into a quick sale and the heck with customer satisfaction. Also the folks at the front desk are rude…

Customer service is horrible. Owner the worst and never stands by the client. Management totally rude. NEVER use TING — she will not redo any mistake she makes or admit that she messed up. After many years of going there and getting highlights and cuts, I was unable to get a highlight just on a certain area to hold me thru the next hightlight. They just want to charge the most and do the least amount for the customer. Why go to a place and pay top dollar if they will not admit that something might really need redo !!! There are many other places in Fairfax that do a better job, have better customer service and handle issues with the client in mind. They call you a «GUEST» but they forget who is paying.

I’ve been driving up from Richmond to have my hair done here for about 8 years now. I love my stylist, Kim, which is why I make the drive every 8 weeks. I have massive amounts of hair with tons of wave. Not only does she give me an amazing color, but the cut is flattering and it’s always shiny and straight when she’s through with it.

I’m torn on how to review Shapes. I started coming here right out of high school. I used to come for the mani/pedi about every two weeks. I also had a regular hair stylist that I used to see that knew me and my hair. My nail technician eventually quit because of internal issues with the management. I found out that her dad died, but management told her she had to come in and fill in for other nail technicians who were sick. She was so furious she pretty much quit on the spot. How shitty is that? Other nail technicians just weren’t the same(sigh) but I still continued to go. My hair stylist was great and blunt with me about what cuts and color I should have. It helped that she had hair just like mine. When I wanted to go shorter, she told me flat out what would happen, but said she would do it anyway if I asked. She would always listen to what I wanted and then honestly tell me what would work and what wouldn’t. The only thing that really needed help was the receptionist area. I had a few spa appointments where I checked in and waited forever. On a few occasions I checked in, and some lady who walked in would take my appointment when my name was called and I didn’t hear it right away. The receptionist would never apologize, and told me to wait until the lady who wrongly said they were me, was done. Last time I was here though, I had just returned from a tour overseas, so I had not been to the salon in over two years and badly needed a good haircut, and just general clean up. My regular stylist, who was really not anymore since I’d been overseas, gave me an A-line bob, which she shouldn’t have done. I think she knew better, but she also knew I was going back out again, so I was not a regular client anymore. Let me put it this way — if your a regular, expect great to mostly excellent service. If just a walk in or first time, don’t get your hopes up.

I have been going to Shapes at the Fairfax Station location for approx. 7 years to get massages(from Sam who is an amazing massage therapist recently had a massage from Julia which was also amazing). The spa is lovely and the prices are reasonable… especially when they offer specials. The facials are also very good… great spa with great services. Wonderful!

I normally go to the Shapes Salon and Spa in Herndon because I actually prefer the masters in that location to the ones in Fairfax Station. Having said that, it gets 4 stars for the up-do I got done there last week when the Herndon location did not have availability. Micaela did my up-do and she did an amazing job following the example photos that I brought with me. So for a special even up-do I would recommend Micaela in Fairfax Station. The up-do was $ 70 which is about what you would pay anywhere else in the area.

I have been going to Shapes for a few years now but I will NEVER be going back after they knowingly sold me a bad product and then wouldn’t let me return it. When they sold me the $ 50 for 0.5 oz eye *cream* I was assured by an aesthetician that the mismatched lid and waxy consistency was totally normal. Even worse, when I called to get a refund or replacement — because the«cream» definitely did NOT work — they told me I was past the 14 day return policy. If this is what they’re openly selling on the floor, I don’t want to know what they’re using in the facials…

Friendly beauty-shop vibe at the nail salon. Massages were relaxing with a Zen-like attentiveness and atmosphere.
