the food was great. I had the coconut chicken soup with white rice in the side. nothing special with the rice, a little under cooked, but that SOUP!!! SOFLAVORFUL.

I’m one of those people that judges a book by it’s cover — but in this instance, I was very wrong. The outside of the restaurant is nothing to rave about, but the inside is very homey. The food is spectacular. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai and I was impressed by the quality and taste. My boyfriend ordered the Pineapple Cashew Fried Rice with Chicken and it was good. The service and value were also great. I’m excited to go back and try more Thai Cuisine.

Tried this place for the first time today and did carry out. Chili chicken and hot and sour soup. The chili chicken is better than average for Fairborn, the hot and sour soup was nothing to brag about. I asked what the the spiciest dish was and the gentleman informed me they will adjust spice level per customer request. Overall a pleasant experience will definitely go back and try different dishes at different spice levels.

For better or worse, you’ve got to keep your expectations in line for where you are and you’ll almost never be disappointed…(That’s a mighty deep thought, if I do say so myself, esp. at the end of a looooooong week! Sort of the foodie version of «You can’t always get what you want…») I seriously LOVE Thai/Asian food and am so grateful that Fairborn, Ohio fulfills my needs when I’ve got the URGE for something/anything that doesn’t come from a SCARY buffet or a hit or miss take out joint… Pearl Bay is definitely a(semi) hidden gem, and if you’re like me, you’ll want to order one of just about everything on its eclectic menu. Is it a top-notch, 5 star, «big city» incredibly authentic restaurant? No, but it does offer is a chance to sample Thai favorites, Chinese«standards,» and some truly interesting sounding Malaysian entrees. I’m a sucker for Phở, and went with their beef phở option, which while not quite as fancy/“authentic” as some other versions, it hit the spot! The hub’s not as «adventurous» as I am, and I’m wishing we had given a try to a few of the more fancy/spicy app. options, but our veggie/not crab Rangoon were good and not greasy at all. He enjoyed his bourbon chicken as well. Great service, cozy/not«questionable» location at all, and reasonably priced. What more can ask for? Another return trip soon, that’s about it!

Excellent service! The server was very bubbly and enthusiastic! She brought mints to us afterwards and was good about filling waters. The food came out fast and was delicious. I had a chicken pad thai at level 5(the hottest they have). It has a great kick with great flavor. The crab ragoons and popcorn chicken were tasty too. Normally I don’t love crab ragoons but these were enjoyable. I recommend this place –great thai food in the area.

If you like it HOT this is the place for you! We found this cute little Asian hole in the wall while looking for some good pad thai and that is exactly what we found! In fact, there is nothing here that we have not enjoyed. Their fried rice is excellent and I enjoy just about all of their noodles. My husband and I do not mind a spicy dish or two and let me tell you this place packs on the spice. We get a level 2 and my husband is sweating… this coming from a man who eats Tabasco with everything. I can’t even begin to imagine what a level 10 would be. Service is always amazing and the staff is super friendly. This is definitely the best Thai food we have had in Dayton!

Worst service EVER! Food is extremely overpriced for the quality and questionable at best. Recommend you avoid this place at all costs.

Food was delicious especially the Mongolian beef. It was so good i didn’t even get a chance to take a pic. Although i felt as though i had more onions than beef but luckily i love onions but so much as my husband. Pad thai & cashew chicken was good too. I did order thai ice coffee w/booba however the booba was hard when the are suppose to be soft & chewy, other than that drink was delicious. Place looks like hole in a wall but don’t let the outside fool you is actually nice inside. They are a bit under staff so you food might take a while but totally worth the wait. Def. Would go back while in here in Dayton maybe try their fruit smoothies & give their booba another try.

Pearl Bay is one of my favorite Thai places. It’s a bit of a whole-in-the-wall that was once a fast food place. But it’s reasonably priced. My only complaint is sometimes they can be a bit slow-but it’s worth the wait.

I didn’t think my gps was working right when it took me here. The guide went wonky, but I found the establishment just fine. It isn’t the most darling on the outside. There’s a nice, new sign, otherwise, it’s really kind of run down looking. Inside is beautiful, though. It’s clean, the tables older but well maintained lacquer over bamboo, perhaps. The waitress was very nice and the music, though I’m not sure what language it was in, was cheerful and catchy. We tried to shazaam it. It came back a bunch of characters we didn’t recognize. As for being vegan friendly… It can be, I think is the best thing I can say. I ate just fine. My meal was wonderful. I had basil rice with tofu. My boyfriend decided he liked it better than whatever it was that he ordered and another guy we were with agreed it was delicious. The pad Thai must come in a mix. I tried to ask about fish sauce and we had some translation issues, but it’s already in there. Asking about dairy was tricky, too, but everyone was kind and good humored all around. Pretty much everything on the menu can be made with tofu instead of meat, upon request. A man we were with is a connoisseur of sweet and sour soup. He ate theirs quickly. He said this meant he thought it was above average on the quality scale. Not bad pricing. Excellent service.

My husband and I were in search of Malaysian food and decided to given this place a try. Overall I was pretty impressed. The food was pretty amazing. I had the beef phở and it was the giant bowl of comforting broth soup that I’ve come to love. The restaurant itself used to be an old Lee’s Fried Chicken. As some other reviewers mentioned the tables and chairs, while pretty, look a little worn. I will definitely be going back.

I was craving asian noodles and boba tea but was too lazy to cook. I came here with my friend due to the high ratings on Unilocal.Unilocal has not failed me until today… I was HIGHLY disappointed and I feel downright disgusted. Unilocal. 4 stars… really? I’m actually quite pissed that this place has 4 stars. Definitely am not a fan. The food alone does not justify this rating. Not to mention its expensive for the amount of food you get! Maybe I’m spoiled by all the CHEAP and AFFORDABLE asian eateries on the West Coast, but if this was a restaurant in my hometown, you would see it as a 1 or 2 star on Unilocal!OR possibly even a closed business due to how overpriced and downright disrespectful this place is… THISPLACEISSEVERELYOVERPRICED for the Quality and Quantity of food that you get! I ordered Mee Goreng(Spicy Egg-Noodle w/Chicken Tofu and Red Pepper), mostly because the reviews said they were good, and a Thai Ice Tea w/boba,. My friend ordered the Indonesian Fried Rice and a Green Iced Tea w/boba. The food tasted good, but it was not high quality. The food was more like a home cooked meal to me. What pissed me off was not the food, it was not the slow service, but it was pure disrespect I felt when I received my drink! The Thai Ice Tea I ordered was $ 3 with an additional 50 cents for boba. Here’s a link to the description of Boba: I got my drink exactly the way I ordered it. The problem was they gave my friend and I literally 5 pieces of boba in our drinks!!! That’s right you heard me, 5 pieces of boba. I even asked the waitress if there was boba inside my Thai tea because I did not see any!!! I posted a picture of my friend’s green tea so you can see for yourself. WTF? I paid 10 cents per piece of boba… This is blasphemy!!! A big smack to my face! If there was a return policy on food or drinks, I would have cancelled my order and just left the restaurant. Take my $ 16 lesson($ 32 if you count my friend) and PLEASEDONOTEATHERE. You have been warned. If you’re willing to spend $ 12 + tips(each) on a medium sized plate of Stir-fried spicy noodles and fried rice, come to my house and I’ll cook it for you!(Serious offer). Nonetheless, I’m not coming here again.

I went here for supper and was very disappointed. We ordered the hot and sour soup and wonton soup. Hot and sour tasted like egg drop and the wonton and no flavor at all. I ordered the beef basil and it had absolutely no basil flavor. My wife ordered the general chicken and it had very little chicken and alot of breading. The lo main was ok but nothing special. On the good. The people were very nice and my basil beef would have made a great stir fry but I was looking for thai basil. Is you want authentic thai food do the drive and go to lihns thai crusine it is worth it

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, Jules was in the mood for something Asian and hearty, though neither of us were feeling up to the drive to Sakai up in Troy. So where to go? Well, she’d stumbled across Pearl Bay while skimming here on Unilocal,so we decided to give that a run, having seen a few indications that it might be on the level of Straits of Malacca.(ed. I’m drooling, just thinking about that place… oh, man!) Pearl Bay is just off of the Dayton-Yellow Springs five way, in what I’m sure used to be a Burger King or some other fast food joint. Setting aside the rusting drive-thru window on the outside, you’d hardly be able to tell that this was a fast food building. It’s nicely appointed with a somber Thai feel. But, you’re not here for the décor; you’re here for the food! And really, there are some great options while docking at the Pearl Bay. The Roti Canai appetizer was crisp yet fluffy, with a savory yellow curry dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the appetizer really only came with one slice of the Roti; two would have been a better portion, though the price is low. Jules ordered a bowl of beef phở, while I settled on the beef massaman. Her phở differed significantly from what you might expect from a Vietnamese restaurant – the broth was less spicy than the Vietnamese counterpart, with more of a coconut milk base. However, it still was delicious and echoed the Thai region well. My beef massaman came as a hearty curry/stew of beef, onion, carrot, and roasted peanuts, served over a plate of fluffy rice. Honestly? It was more than I could eat! The portion size was massive. Flavor-wise, I could have done with a little bit more heat, though the nutty sauce coupled with the roasted peanuts in the dish made for an interesting flavor. I don’t know that I’d order the massaman again, personally, though it was good! As the recession started in 2007, Jules and I watched so many businesses die off in that end of Fairborn. It’s great to see a place like Pearl Bay come around and provide some unique tastes just off the base!

Cute little place to get lunch or dinner. Appetizers like fried thai roll and crab Rangoon is amazing. Crab Rangoon is one of the best I’ve had. We had mango boba tea and the straw is definitely too small for the bubbles. I’ve had much better boba smoothies elsewhere. Tom yung koong was decent. My husband like their chicken massaman curry, but I think it’s just OK. They offer either yellow rice or white rice, and I didn’t like the yellow rice. Do come here for the appetizers though!

What’s all this about the outside being sketchy? I thought it looked fine, a homey-looking mom-n-pop kind of dive. The inside was clean and well decorated. Albeit, the furnishings were outdated, but they were built with good quality and like I said, it wasn’t dingy in the inside. The Pineapple Bubble Tea was very good. It came frozen like a frozen daiquiri(minus the alcohol, of course). It was sweet but not too sweet and very refreshing. The bubbles at the bottom were like little gummy bear balls. They were actually pretty big though, because even though the drink came with a thick straw, I had a hard time getting much liquid out without really working for it. I think the ice chunks were too big for the straw too. I ordered the Mee Goreng. Get it! It’s a dish of egg noodles in what was described as a spicy sauce. I got the three meat trio option with chicken, beef, shrimp, AND tofu. It was super good. The noodles were pan-fried and the sauce was very flavorful. The waitress didn’t ask me what spice level I wanted, and I didn’t tell her, so I didn’t know what to expect. There were definitely some spices in it(you could smell those with the steam coming up in your face) but it wasn’t overwhelming and complimented the dish nicely. Spice lovers would have been disappointed though. I loved it. It was reminiscent of Japanese Yakisoba and it hit the spot. Service at lunch: Not the best. I didn’t mind it too much, but my fellow lunchateers complained at the table. The waitress took our drink orders when we sat down. We were the first ones in the restaurant. It took more than 10 minutes for the drinks to show up. Maybe closer to fifteen. We ordered food when the drinks came. The food came out fast enough, but only one plate at a time. I got mine first(bonus points for Pearl Bay). The next plate showed up a minute later, then the next a minute after that. The one that took the cake though was the last order to come out, well after 10 minutes from the first one. It was one of those classic scenarios when everyone’s almost done eating and Joe Shmo at the end table hasn’t gotten his food yet. Awkward! The bill came out to be $ 16, between the noodles and the tea. I was little surprised at the price, thinking it would be cheaper, but I didn’t mind. It was a very savory and satisfying meal. My lunch companions all agreed and testified to the quality of the food even with the sour taste of the poor service still in their mouths. I look forward to dining here again and trying something new.

Don’t come here expecting typical thai or Chinese food. This is a Malaysian style restaurant with Cantonese/mandarin music in the background when you walk in. So it’s a fusion of Indian, thai, and Chinese. I’m a huge fan of Malaysian food, and usually you should always order a roti canai(Indian bread with chicken curry sauce). It was good, but the sauce was a little thin. The highlight of the night is number 27. They just call it a stir fry noodle with beef(aka authentic Cantonese beef chow fun). This is typical cantonese comfort food. I don’t usually get any spice, but I always ask for chili sauce on the side. The pineapple fried rice was light and good too. All and all a good meal. The service is great and the food is wonderful(although they aren’t serving Midwest size portion– so don’t expect to take much food home). Although the atmosphere is not bad inside, the outside could use a little help. Don’t get fooled though– def. give this place a try!
