I enjoyed the restaurant and the avocados, but honestly, the food is not like authentic Mexican, and the tacos I had were really disappointing. Very expensive for what it is

Get the sesame chicken tacos I have seriously never had a better taco in my entire life. 10⁄10 recommend this place, it was the first time there and I will for sure be back.

We usually love coming here and eat nearly everything on the menu. Sitting at the bar is sometimes the best option as the bartenders are on their game, treat you quickly, and you get a great view of the room. The noise in Lago can get overwhelming if the place is packed(which it usually is). We LOVE ordering food from our boat and having it delivered at the Excelsior docks — if you haven’t done that yet, you’re missing a great lakeside experience.

Awesome! In Saturday for a simple lunch and to say hi to my friends; an amazing smothered grilled chicken burrito, with a little extra Habanero salsa! Best in the cities… thanks Shannon and Mikey for letting me hang out for a little bit today.

I have no complaints. I ordered the pork belly tacos. You cant go wrong with pork belly anything, so they were excellent. I brought my 6 month old and it was very fam friendly. Service and beer selection were spot on.

Stopped in for lunch today and I was STARVING! Naturally, I ordered a margarita first because its best to drink on an empty stomach– more for your money, you know. I decided upon the carnitas tacos. Kind of a boring choice seeing as their menu has a lot of delicious sounding choices. I was kind of buzzed up and had to make a quick choice. Well, the carnitas were to die for! I decided to finish my meal with a liquid desert of their Traditional Margarita. Dang! Amazeballs!!! Go here, eat their fantastic food, drink their delicious drinks and look for me probably still taking a nap in one of the back booths.

As someone who has lived the majority of my life in the SW(Arizona, Texas, NM) I would rate this place as 3 stars based upon my expectations, but with that being said it is one of my favorite Mexican(ish) places in the western suburbs. The walleye burrito is a unique dish, and is what I typically order. Although I have never been unhappy with any of my choices. Ambiance wise the space is small and typically noisy, the bar is decent size for a small space.

Walking in for the first time I didn’t know what to expect. I was greeted and had choice of seating which was nice. While looking at the menu I found tons of different items I would love to try but settled on the beef and potato tacos. My boyfriend and I also shared the chips and dips plate with Guac, salsa, beans and chips. I will start there. The refried beans were semi strange and I would have opted for some sort of queso, think that would be more fitting. As for the salsa it was absolutely great, amazing salsa is hard to come by but I was stunningly surprised on the burst of flavor. As for the Guac it again hit the spot, it was a tad creamy for my taste as I like mine more chunky but the flavor was still absolutely there and I loved the onion and cilantro. Next the tacos. Oh my gosh best tacos I have seriously ever had. The ground beef was again killer and the toppings it was paired with were so amazing. I loved the creamy avocado and sour cream and the crunch of the lettuce. The cheese tomatoes and onions added another punch of flavor. I got the rice as a side. It wasn’t nothing special but a decent addition. As for price I thought it was decent. Service was great, our server was super nice and he always checked up on us making sure we were comfortable and at ease. Overall this place has always been on my short list to try and I will for certain Come back. The flavor was so out of this world and I’ve never had a better taco. Stellar and absolutely spectacular.

Our first time to the original spot. After walking around Excelsior, we knew we had to try the flagship location of the restaurant we like so much in Uptown. The space itself is much smaller than the Uptown location but the feel is the same. A family friendly place to enjoy American Mexican cuisine. As usual, I got the walleye burrito with the corn cake and my wife got a mix of three soft shell tacos(two walleye, one carnitas). There is no quality lost between the locations. Just as happy as if we were eating in Uptown. Beer selection is identical. If you’re shopping in Excelsior and jonesing for some quick delicious snacks, Lago can’t be overlooked.

Fresh, abundant and flavourful. Not an encyclopaedic menu by any means, but the core offerings of tacos and burritos seemed hit the spot. Our table ordered different offerings of tacos, and all were more than satisfied. My wife loves any place that serves fresh fish tacos, and this place has now taken the frontrunner spot for her.

I am a little surprised that Lago’s overall rating isn’t higher. It is one of my local favorites that is close to home, so I go there frequently and never have had a bad experience. The best time to go is on a Sunday afternoon between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for great happy hour specials on food and drinks. They have unique tacos such as coconut shrimp, sesame chicken, mahi mahi, guava pork, etc. Everything is always fresh, hot and is served fast. They have corn tortilla options so it is Gluten Free Friendly! YAY! We usually sit at the bar and receive fantastic service. They always remember what we like, so it is fun to go here. If you ever get out to Excelsior stop by, you won’t be disappointed.

Great food and service. Only downside here was the cost. It’s a little spendy for 3 small tacos. Great flavor and options though!

I cannot believe this is rated a 3.5 stars. The service is great, food is fresh and creative… quiet yourself you self-proclaimed food critics. It’s great, authentic, fresh food a half block from Lake Minnetonka in beautiful downtown Excelsior. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention their house margs that are fantastic. Oh, and I’m 6’6″. I’m NEVER hungry after leaving there… just trying to figure out how miserable I’m going to be after getting a scoop at Lick’s during the summer months.

Ok so I was excited to see a Mexican restaurant in Excelsior when we first moved here, however I’ve been disappointed on several occasions when eating here. First, the food. I had the chicken tinga tacos — they were tacos smothered in a heavy tomato based salsa. There are so many different ways to make tinga, but these just didn’t hit it. It tasted like they drowned their tacos in the salsa they serve with their chips — not good. Second time I ate here I had fish tacos which completely fell apart with their sauce, it was too messy to enjoy. Lastly, the service at the bar was great. They were fast and friendly. When we sat at a booth however, our waitress was really rude! She was hurrying us through our order and seemed irritated that we were there. Oh well!

My wife and I were searching for breakfast in Excelsior and we ended up here due to default. Most restaurants around town don’t open till 10am, but Lagos was open. What a surprising treat! The food was fresh, sizeable, simply excellent. The staff were warm and welcoming. I had the garden omelette which was out of this world. My wife had the pork green chile(a recommendation from the server) which she loved. Well done everyone, Excelsior is in dire need of a warm, welcoming spot. In our experience the only other restaurant that makes you feel welcome is O’Connors. The others have an attitude of pompous entitlement. We are heading back to Lagos for dinner tonight. Hoping it’s as good!

No horchata! Knew I wasn’t at a true taqueria. Otherwise, veggie tacos and fried walleye tacos were tasty. Strange menu… Have to get three of same tacos with side of rice OR beans or corncake. The latter was def disappointing at room temp. Beans were delish even if a small portion. Would have liked salsa options over hot sauce(siracha and ketchup?). Local beers. Waitress was stiff but fairly attentive.

Disappointed!!! Monster burrito was cold, chewy and considerably malnourished — especially when compared to Chipotle. We were still hungry after dinner and ordered an appetizer, which was good. Jamison was a short, short pour. Look if I Chipotle and get this, I’ll deal with it. but these aren’t Chipotle prices; nor should be both be hungry after our entrée.

As usual, the food is just«okay» here. Everything tasted fine, but the burrito was soggy, and messy. Plus, they charge extra for even a tiny amount if salsa,(really guys?, for tacos sake, just incorporate into the price of everything! All around the food continues to look and taste unimpressive when you can get better tacos and burritos with all the salsa, poco, and cilantro you want for less $$$ at Pinedas.

My buddies and I were in Excelsior for a brewpub trip to Excelsior Brewing, so we hit Lago Tacos for some brunch. The staff was super cool and I ordered an Enki IPA, a new brewery near Lake Minnetonka. Good stuff. I ordered the tinga chicken burrito breakfast, but in bowl form. Tons of eggs and fresh and flavorful pulled chicken with tons of grilled peppers on the side. Amazing! Everything was super juicy and flavorful. The eggs were full and fluffy. Great breakfast plate. They also had some great breakfast potatoes with slick salsa that accompanied it. My friends got bloody Mary’s, which they said had great tomato flavor. They also came with a flash fried pickle. Beautiful! I have had fried pickles, and this was by far the best ever. Super great waitresses too. Good times!
