My favorite place to get Indian in town. They have a nice bar and clean dining area. The biryani is pretty good and the naan is always solid.

The lunch buffet is really good, 100% authentic Indian cuisine. I am thrilled to eat here as it is a real treat. I would like to try the Indian beers but I am always here during lunch hour and returning to work. Two thumbs up for great food.

This Indian restaurant not only had exceptional service and atmosphere(right down to the music) but the food was also phenomenal. We went in the evening, not the lunch buffet. If you like Indian food or just want to try it, this place will not disappoint.

The buffet is a great time to try all the different kinds of indian food at once. It is the best Indian food in town. I like going to dinner because I can get everything spicy and super fresh. If you are a beginner I suggest the buffet first.

The lunch buffet is my very favorite lunch in Evansville. It is always extremely clean, fresh and well seasoned. I also find it a good value. The service is most appropriate for a buffet. Attentive.

I really enjoy the food here. At night, I usually go with friends, one of whom is from India. He orders, and I generally love everything we get. They will tailor the spice to your taste, so don’t think everything is spicy. The lunch buffet is always fresh and tasty. It’s inexpensive but the food is excellent. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

This place is delicious. The lunch buffet is the best value, as it is a bit pricey. The service is a bit funny, but I’m pretty sure it’s a cultural difference. I enjoy it nonetheless.

One of the better Indian restaurants we’ve ever eaten at. The channa masala and the vegi biryani were fantastic and the chicken sabasz was extremely tasty. We will definitely be eating here the next time we are in Evansville Indiana.

Being of Indian background kinda makes this review a bit more… «Authentic» lets say. We eat here, a lot because it really is the best North indian food in Evansville. Now, here is why. The food has real taste, not some bland version of Punjabi food, and it doesnt have to be spicy to be tasty. my tip for you is if you like garlic — get the garlic naan. And if you like chicken try a better alternative of cottage cheese(paneer) and like spinach — get Saag Paneer — but ADD onions and bell peppers! That’s Gourmet Indian for you! And they will make any adjustment you would like — that’s good customer service

We have eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed our meals. This past time we walked in 15 mins before they closed for the afternoon and still let me have my way with the buffet! Very nice!!!

Despite the rich and varied spices that characterize good Indian cuisine the only flavor you get at this place is huge oversalting. There is no hint of mustard ginger or vinegar in the vindaloo just salt. Even the korma — the korma for chrissake — is not a smooth mix of butter and garlic and garam masala just salted like Five Guys fries. I suppose if like many locals this is your only Indian exposure you could be forgiven for thinking it’s supposed to be like that but trust me it surely is not. There is now the second Indian restaurant choice in town and even though it is a somewhat spartan and limited place its food is way more tasty then this place with lousy service and no feel whatsoever for proper use of spices.

Great Indian food. Both Northern and Southern Indian dishes. They can make it true Indian spicy but if you’re white you have to convince them you can handle it.

I love this place! It is one of my favorite places in Evansville to visit. And it is very well priced for Indian food. If you aren’t into spicy, I would go for the chicken tikka masala. It is very mild, and almost sweet. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is perfect!

Although I’m not in Evansville all that often, I’ve been to Taj Mahal plenty of times. I love Indian food and have many restaurants where I live. So, with only one restaurant here in Evansville, I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary. Luckily, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Taj Mahal and regularly dine there. The first thing I’ll mention is that the spice level is a bit higher than at other Indian restaurants I’ve been to. Keep this in mind while you are ordering or you may find your food a bit too spicy. As with most Indian restaurants, there are tons of vegetarian options. Some of the ones that Taj Mahal does best include the Dal Makhani, Punjabi Curry, Dal Tadka and Aloo Gobi. They also have a selection of chaat items in the appetizers, these are very good and are a great start to the meal. We’ve done lunch buffet, dinner and carryout on various occasions. The food quality in all instances has been well above par across the menu. The buffet has a somewhat limited selection, caters to vegetarians and non-vegetarians and also keeps all the items pretty fresh. I’d say the quality of the buffet seemed to be similar to the dine-in experience for us. The interior is really clean, bright and spacious with the ability to accommodate larger groups easily. There are high ceilings, plenty of windows and a luxurious(non-functional) bar. The service is polite and the wait times for food are very reasonable. Of particular note, they are incredibly accommodating for food modifications. As an example, my husband was craving aloo gobi without the gobi one night and the staff obliged without question. The food here is solidly good and anytime we have a craving for Indian food, Taj Mahal always hits the spot.

My husband and I decided on Taj Mahal based on their advertising of a full bar since we wanted a few drinks with dinner. DENIED! No bar! There is a bar… a BIG and BEAUTIFUL bar; however, it’s not stocked with anything but Budweiser and Miller Lite… WTF! False advertising should get you a 1 but the food was decent, although not the best I’ve ever had and our waiter, who was the only wait staff in a full restaurant, was running his butt off and didn’t do too bad of a job. My suggestion would be to stick with lunch buffet, which I’m sure is great. Fast food with an iced tea! Perfect!

This was my first time experiencing Indian food, so I can’t do much in comparison to traditional Indian cuisines. However, the food was very delicious, not too spicy or hot, but they were full of flavor. We ate from the food bar, so I don’t quite remember any of the names, but nearly everything we tried was really good and quite flavorful. I hadn’t read the reviews before I went, so I wasn’t expecting anything of the service, but our waiter consistently returned to check on us, refill drinks, make sure we were enjoying our meal. He did seem a little nervous, but that may be explained by their service-related reviews. The atmosphere was a little bland, but the service was good and the food was fantastic. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes to sample other cultures.

4STARSFORTHEFOOD! The reviews about service gave us a heads up when we went there, so we weren’t too surprised when the service was OK. We got our food in a fair amount of time though. The food was delicious! We got the chicken tikka masala and another dish, the portions are small, but surprisingly filing; probably because these dishes are heavy. Our server always seemed so rush whenever he came to check on our table; but he did fill our water a few times without asking so that was nice. We would love to try the buffet next time for the variety of food. If you don’t mind the inconsistent quality of service, this place has really delicious Indian food!

I definitely recommend the lunch buffet! This is such a better deal than a small entrée at dinner, especially if you don’t already have a favorite Indian dish. Love the variety of hot entrees. Always wish I had room for a salad with cool cucumber sauce or lightly sweet & refreshing dessert. Go for the naan and dipping sauces: mint, tamarind, and onion… sooo good! Also the mango yogurt drink(lassi). Service has ranged from passable to friendly and attentive.

First off, they have a beautiful bar and dining area(which is worth at least 2 stars right there). Their food is very good. Which is what I would expect of an Indian place in Evansville because they are not a chain. The best time to eat here is during lunch(when they have the buffet). Dine-in and takeout are a little expensive($ 10 – 13). The buffet is around $ 8. Their booze situation is not anything great. When I was looking, I don’t think they serve the mega popular beers(like bud light) on tap, which is rare in Evansville. With that said, the«craft» beers on tap are made by the same company. However, they have a decent enough wine selection and a few Indian beers that could be rather enjoyable with dinner. A funny situation… When the waiter asked how spicy I wanted my lamb dish,(1 – 6) I said 4(medium hot). He told me no. I was surprised and asked why. He said Americans can’t handle medium hot and he kept suggesting that I have 1 or 2. I ordered 3(I know… I am such a nonconformist). He was correct, if I had gotten 4 then the spicy would have overwhelmed the other flavors. I have never had a waiter tell me outright ‘no’ when I wanted to order something. This time the customer was not right and I am glad the waiter told me. Overall, solid 4 rating. Excellent little place. here is their website.
